The Bible read to classical music daily

The Bible read to classical music daily

John Richmond

The Bible read to classical music daily.

The concept is simple. The Bible is read over suitable classical music by the Greats and never heard before music composed and performed by John Richmond. All of John's music can be found on all major streaming platforms. Search for "J Richmond." All links to the albums can be found at www.ClassicallySpeaking.co.uk

Season 1 has the Bible read over classical music by famous composers eg Beethoven and Rachmaninov. Season two focuses on the New Testament with a passage being read every day for a year.

You could read the passage for yourself first. Then listen to it being read by John allowing the Bible passage to come alive in your mind.

The idea is to reflect on the Bible passage, improving your mood as you use the music and readings to meditate and clear your mind from everyday noise. Take deep breaths, focus on your senses and listen to your body.

Christian meditation encourages you to also look towards God, as well as into yourself. The world is getting busier and there are so many things demanding our attention. Now is the time to take “you time” and focus on what is important.

There are no sermons or commentaries. No-one gives their opinions or preaches. It is simply the Bible being read. You connect with the passages anyway you want to. Get to know the Bible in a year in a new and exciting way.

A new episode is published every day at 9am.

You can become a Yahway member and gain access to all the passages with timings, early releases, bonus videos and you can request your favourite Bible passage to be read. You can also ask John to record a personal message for you, for example wishing a loved one a Happy birthday or happy anniversary.

John studied his Masters of Theology at Glasgow University and is also a Religious Education teacher in a secondary school in Scotland. He has also written a commentary on the Bible that can be ordered from Amazon called “What’s the Good News for today?”

Whether you have faith, no faith or if you are developing your faith, these podcasts are for you.

Welcome and thanks for joining us. I’m excited as tonight we are going to be listening to the Psalms being read to classical music.

I’ve been looking forward to this all week.

There are so many Psalms to choose from and an almost unlimited choice of music, but John has selected his favourite three for this episode.

First tonight John is going to read Psalm 23, the Lord is my shepherd. The music is Beethoven’s Pathetique Piano Sonata in C minor.

Second is psalm 44, and the music is Lacrimosa from Mozart’s Requiem.

And finally, psalm 34, and the music is Hornpipe from Handel’s The Water Music.

Hello and welcome to episode four.

I hope you are enjoying the journey so far.

We still have a long way to go.

This time John will be reading about the plot to kill Jesus, from Matthew chapter twenty six. The music is the second movement from John’s second symphony.

Then, the Prodigal Son parable from Luke chapter fifteen verses eleven to thirty two. The music is the first movement from John’s first symphony, followed by “Hungary” from the album Compose Yourself. This is one of my favourite parables along with the Good Samaritan.

When I listen to the passages, I imagine myself there at that exact time. What are the smells? What do I see? How am I feeling? If I was the son, how exactly would I be feeling. You should try to do that too.

John just gave me the nod, so he is ready to read the passages.

John, it’s over to you.

Welcome to this highlights episode from Season 1. John has recorded over four hours of Bible passages so far. John assures me there’s dozens of hours still to come, so that’s good. The first episode from Season two will be published very soon.

We asked John to pick his favourite passages so far. Eventually he narrowed it down to six. One from the Old Testament, two from the Psalms and three from the New Testament.

Remember, you can become a Yahway member and download all the Bible passages with timings. You can also get access to bonus videos and request your favourite Bible passage to be read. John can also record a special message for you, for example for a relative’s birthday or wedding anniversary.

Onto the passages. John has chosen the order for them to be played in.

The first piece of music is Mars from Holst’s the planets. The first reading is the Fall from Genesis chapter 3 verses 1 to 16. The second reading is the 10 Commandments from Exodus chapter 20 verses 1 to 21.

The second Bible passage is the Baptism of Jesus from Mark chapter one verses nine to thirteen. The music is Copland’s fanfare for the common man.

The third passage is psalm 44, and the music is Lacrimosa from Mozart’s Requiem.

The forth reading is Jesus calms the storm from Mark chapter three verses thirty five to fourty one. The music is Tchaikovsky’s 1812 overture.

The fifth reading is Psalm 19, and the music is the first movement from Sousa’s forth symphony .

And finally, the sixth reading is the resurrection of Jesus from Matthew chapter 28 verses 1 to 10. The music is Brahms Violin concerto in D.

John and all the team here at Classically Speaking would like to thank you for all your kind messages and words of support for Season 1. Season 2 is going to be amazing. I can’t wait to start it. Until then, take care.

Welcome to episode 3 of classically speaking the Old Testament.

John has changed the format for this episode. Each piece of music has two different readings. John felt that it made sense as some pieces of music lasted for 8 minutes while the reading lasted only 2.

When John reads the passages, he looks over the readings but he doesn’t spend time practicing. He lets the music inspire him. He could read the passage again and it would be different each time.

The first piece of music is Mars from Holst’s the planets. The first reading is the Fall from Genesis chapter 3 verses 1 to 16. The second reading is the 10 Commandments from Exodus chapter 20 verses 1 to 21.

The second piece of music is Sinbad’s ship from Scheherzade by Rimsky Korsakov. The first reading is the Flood from Genesis chapter 6 verses 13 to 22 and chapter 7 verses 11 to 12. The second reading is Babel from genesis chapter 11 verses 5 to 9.

The third piece of music is The Grand Duchess of Gerolstein by Offenbach. The first reading is the Ark of the Covenant from Numbers chapter 10 verses 33 to 36. The second reading is Moses; miracle from Exodus chapter 4 verses 1 to 9.

And finally for this episode, the forth piece of music is the Dance of the seven veils from Strauss’s Salome. The first reading is the Passover from Exodus chapter 12 verses 1 to 14. The second reading is 40 years from Numbers chapter 14 verses 25 to 38.

John is raring to go so it’s over to him. Enjoy.
