Creating An Intergenerational Culture In Your Church (w: Chuck Stecker) - Episode 135
06/28/22 • 53 min
Chuck Stecker is the founder of A Chosen Generation, and he believes that all generations, young and old, have something to contribute to the church. That's why his organization seeks to provide strategies and resources for leaders who want to strengthen the intergenerational culture of their churches.
Today, we're talking to Chuck about fostering a church culture that brings generations together. It's essential that the older generation (or the "encore generation," as Chuck calls it) stays active in the church. And we don't mean being involved in seniors-only ministries—we mean being involved in discipleship ministries with kids, students, teens, and young adults. The encore generation has so much to give! It's time that we encourage them to keep hold of their baton and continue their race.

Key Takeaways
1) As Dabo Swinney says, "There's nothing less important than the score at halftime." After 40, many of us pivot from pursuing success to pursuing significance. Over the years, Dale has learned that living a meaningful life looks more like loving God, loving family, and obeying what He's called us to do.
2) Jesus came to give us life. We can let our strivings cease and start living freely by knowing that we don't have to adhere to a particular set of rules just to measure up. Jesus loves you because He loves you. He doesn't love you because of what you've done, who you are, or how you perform.
3) God doesn't need our help. God can accomplish whatever He wants, and He certainly doesn't need us to do that. However, He wants a relationship with us. Let Him pursue you!

Social Media As A Ministry And Not An Advertisement (w: Karis Hortin) - Episode 136
Karis Hortin is only 21 years old, but she's already lived a lot of life. Born in Ethiopia, she was raised by her grandmother until she was seven, when she entered an orphanage because her grandmother contracted HIV. At nine, she was adopted by an American family and began her life in the United States. Karis says that before she ever heard of God, she always felt like someone was looking out for her.
These days, she uses her faith, talent, and marketing expertise to help churches get their social media platforms off the ground. She's also a certified life coach for teen girls and has used her popular TikTok and YouTube accounts as a platform to tackle the complicated things that teens face these days. Oh, and did I mention she's a beauty queen running for Miss Illinois? Is there anything she can't do?!
Today, our conversation centers around social media for churches and why having an online presence is so crucial for the younger generation. Karis mentions how we should see social media as a ministry rather than an advertisement—a comment that holds so much truth. Listen in today, and reach out to us or Karis (link below) if you have any questions!
