Have you ever wondered why it seems like there are always more women than men in the church? Studies show that the average Protestant church is around 61% female and 39% male. Quite the difference, huh?

During today's conversation, Jon and Caralee talk to author and video producer David Murrow about what causes men to fall away from the church and what we can do to draw them in again. Our goal at 95Network is to see churches not only grow but flourish. And to reach that goal, we need everyone's help—both men and women!

The 95 Podcast: Conversations for Small-Church Pastors - Social Media As A Ministry And Not An Advertisement (w: Karis Hortin) - Episode 136
play

07/05/22 • 55 min

Karis Hortin is only 21 years old, but she's already lived a lot of life. Born in Ethiopia, she was raised by her grandmother until she was seven, when she entered an orphanage because her grandmother contracted HIV. At nine, she was adopted by an American family and began her life in the United States. Karis says that before she ever heard of God, she always felt like someone was looking out for her.

These days, she uses her faith, talent, and marketing expertise to help churches get their social media platforms off the ground. She's also a certified life coach for teen girls and has used her popular TikTok and YouTube accounts as a platform to tackle the complicated things that teens face these days. Oh, and did I mention she's a beauty queen running for Miss Illinois? Is there anything she can't do?!

Today, our conversation centers around social media for churches and why having an online presence is so crucial for the younger generation. Karis mentions how we should see social media as a ministry rather than an advertisement—a comment that holds so much truth. Listen in today, and reach out to us or Karis (link below) if you have any questions!

At this point, most of us know that providing online access to sermons and Sunday services is imperative to reaching people inside and outside of the church. However, many pastors are still hesitant (or even unwilling) to go there. Today's guest, David Murrow, says that "online sermons are the church's welcome center." Currently, people "visit" churches by first finding them online, watching a few sermons, and then coming in person if they like what they've seen.

With this in mind, David has recently launched a coaching program to help churches improve their online presence. He's got some great ideas and resources available for pastors who are ready to dive into the online world. I hope you take away some great ideas to try for yourself!

The original release of Podcast 111 w/ Polly Hamp was so well received that we decided to release it again as the end of summer 2022 nears. We hope you enjoy today's PODCAST RECAST.

The work of Jesus is evident all throughout Polly Hamp's life.

If you've listened to the podcast for a while, you know my life was changed by the teaching of Bob Hamp, and it was such an honor to have his wife Polly on the podcast this week to share her story.

Polly's earliest memory is from age 3, when she was first sexually abused. In today's episode, she shares about the journey of life she has been on, as well as the incredible ways Jesus has shown up in her story and redeemed aspects of her story.

Her vision in life is to see people walk in the fullness of who God created them to be. For years Polly has been helping individuals find freedom and hope from hurting and stuck places. She was the founder and director of a ministry that helped people impacted by the sex industry find freedom and a new life. She also is a published author, speaker, Think Differently Coach, Certified NLP Practitioner, and an Organizational Consultant.

The faithfulness of God evident in her story brought me to tears. I encourage you to listen!

The original release of Podcast 117 w/ Marty Sawyers was so well received that we decided to release it again as the end of summer 2022 nears. We hope you enjoy today's PODCAST RECAST.

At Full Strength Network, Marty Sawyers and his team believe that healthy pastors lead healthy churches, and healthy churches change the world. That's why they've gathered a national network of providers who are passionate about helping pastors and their families stay on the road to mental, spiritual, and financial well-being.

We all know how important it is to take care of yourself. They say that when an airplane is going down, if you don't put your safety mask on first, then you can't help anyone else. This is especially true for ministers and their families.

Today, we're talking to Marty about why pastors need counseling in every season of life, whether dealing with trauma or simply maintaining healthy habits. We'll also talk about how Full Strength Network can help pastors and their families receive counseling, financial coaching, and well-being resources in an affordable, safe, and anonymous way.

Take a few minutes to listen. I know you'll be encouraged!

Key Takeaways

1) Counseling can look like a lot of different things. You don't have to be dealing with "Big T" trauma to be involved in counseling. You might feel at your best right now or have smaller issues you'd like to talk through. It's never a bad idea to seek wise counsel, no matter what season you're experiencing.

2) Pastors, ministers, and their families are often expected to be perfect. Many pastors and the people closest to them feel like they can't admit that they need help. There's a stigma (which Marty says is going away, but not fast enough) that a pastor should be devoid of personal issues.

3) The church was designed as a team sport. The church is meant to have many leaders and disciples, not just one person carrying all the weight. There must be a system of equipping other people to use their own gifts.

4) You are loved. You are supported. You don't have to do this alone. We're here for you. We want to see a world full of church leaders who are healthy in every aspect, and that starts with you taking the next step. Reach out to Full Strength Network and to us so we can partner with you on your ministry journey.

The 95 Podcast: Conversations for Small-Church Pastors - Bridging The Minority Gap With Intentional Relationships w Hykeng Paul Episode 133
play

06/14/22 • 53 min

In today’s episode, we’re catching up with Hykeng Paul, the Director of Unity and Diversity at Newspring Church here in South Carolina. As a black man who grew up in the AME church and then began attending a predominantly white church, Hykeng has a unique perspective on racial separation in congregations. He’s a wealth of knowledge about the history of the black church and what led us to where we are today.

During our conversation, Hykeng brings a welcome perspective to the table about why tackling this issue should be a priority in our churches and what we can do about it. He gives some practical first steps for pursuing unity—the first being just simply to start praying about it. Our open and honest conversation was a blessing to me, and I hope it will be to you.
