This week's guest was nothing short of fabulous! Actor, Eric Rolland, joined the Lounge and talked to the guys about so many different things! Most notably, Eric is the man who portrayed JP Morgan in the History Channel's Docuseries original, "The Men Who Built America!"
Sam sort of fanboys out, because he has used The Men Who Built America in the classroom when he was teaching in person. He talks about what he saw the series, accomplishing, and it leads Eric to present the concept of "docu-tainment!" They all talk about how some topics need an entertainment component in order for some people to be able to enjoy it. Eric talks about hoping that spurs something in someone to further their knowledge on a subject.
Eric also offered yet another perspective of how actors approach their trade. He talks about his preparation for a part, his mindset when he's up for a part, and what city he enjoys the most, of all that he's traveled.
Eric and Sam then talked about how important JP Morgan was in the construct of the country, at a time where it was still up for grabs on the topic of success!
The conversation is absolutely one that isn't a shallow one! The guys THOROUGHLY enjoyed their time with Eric Rolland! So, sit back, relax, and #grabalisten!

This week we didn't have a guest, and Richey is on Spring Break, so Sam & Matt hang out together and talk about a bunch of different things!
The common thread? It's all useless information! Sam went shopping and got a book named "The Book of Useless Information: Thousands of things you didn't think you needed to know... and probably don't."
From squirrels in Sam's basement to the total amount of people who attend MLB games each year. From two former presidents, who hated one another to how ice cream sundaes came to fruition, the topics are all over the place!
Matt throws in a "Let's Chat!" that has Sam wondering, "WHY?!" The fact we didn't have a guest this week is not a factor because oh what a show!
If you are an expert in any of the topics they cover, PLEASE contact us and come on and tell them how misguided they are!
So, sit back, relax, and enjoy this episode of Useless Information!

11/15/22 • 92 min

This week's Vault episode revisits the time the guys talked to R&B Icon, DC Glenn (DC the Brain Supreme), half of the hip-hop TagTeam!
ORIGINAL SHOW NOTES
This week takes the guys back to their high school days! DC Glenn, a.k.a. DC the Brain Supreme sprinkled all sorts of things in the #Lounge, this week! DC is half of the hip-hop duo, Tag Team, who had the iconic song, "Whoomp! (There It Is)," that came out in the early 1990s!
He talks in-depth about the national GEICO commercial that Tag Team was featured, and whether or not the offer to do a commercial, altering their song, took time to agree on or whether it was agreed upon without thinking about it!
DC is asked about who his most influential person was, in his growing up, and his answer is great! How did he start his music career? What motivates him? Where did his work ethic come from, and what drives him to succeed in anything he does? He talks about all of these things!
DC gives a piece of advice, to Sam, when it comes to a certain feature, from dogs, that require his boys to go out and pick up! There were things, early in DC's life, that got him on track to be successful, and it might surprise you as to what!
DC talks about the transition in his life from a full-time rapper to being a person who does acting, performing, voice-over, and other things! He truly does 5 things at the same time to make sure he is "recession-proof!" He also makes a statement about 2020 that might surprise you, taking everything about 2020 into account!
They then get onto the topic of weight loss and Keto! DC has lost close to 100 pounds over the last year! What was it that motivated him to start dropping weight? There are also A BUNCH of things that DC cooks, that ROCK, and are extremely Keto-friendly! The guys didn't think about a lot of the items he uses, and are just psyched that they now have some ideas to help them drop some LBs!
From a national GEICO commercial, motivation for success, becoming famous, and eating healthy... this show is PACKED! Not to mention the great nuggets of wisdom DC "SPRINKLES" into the show! He was fantastic, and they would love to have him back on some time to chat about what keeps him busy!
SO, sit back, relax and enjoy the hang out with DC the Brain Supreme, a.k.a. DC Glenn, half of the hip-hop duo, Tag Team! #grabalisten

E138: Contingency Plan: Food For Thought!

The 500 Section Lounge Podcast

play

07/19/22 • 78 min

When a guest has something happen to where they don't show up, the guys have a contingency plan... Talk, talk, talk, and talk some more!
WELP... the guys had to revert to their contingency plan! Only this week, THEY FOUND A TOPIC to talk the whole show on... FOOD!
Sam's going to a game in Pittsburgh, soon, and the topic of getting popcorn at events, and then the movie theater! Matt drops a Theater PSA, for all who might not know. The movie popcorn conversation progressed to the urge to have popcorn and how to administer the butter to one's popcorn. Matt, AGAIN, drops a way to get butter all the way through the tub!
Whoppers candy is brought up and Matt surprises Sam with something he'd never heard of before!
Local, small-town ice cream shops get the floor of the conversation, and the guys share what they like, with their ice cream, and the types of ice cream they've discovered.
Bridging from ice cream to the snacks of Little Debbie takes over, and the guys CRUISE talking about what they like, don't like, and different things they could make, USING these snacks!
Richey asks about the preferred way to eat Little Debbie's Nutty Bars. THEN, it happens... Matt drops something on the Lounge that pretty much blows everyone away with surprise!
WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN!?
Conversation moves to foods they cannot eat, and don't really have a reason for the inability to eat. Richey has a very specific type! The other two tend to agree, but, yet again, MATT, has an answer to a way Richey might be able to eat this food.
Sam shares two different foods he cannot consume because of incidents from his childhood.
Matt talks about an unusual flavor of whiskey being sold. That leads the talk to the grill! Sam talks about buying a side of beef straight from the farmer and getting the meat he wants from when it gets butchered.
Matt talks about "high dollar" vegetables or meats that used to be the "throw away parts." That leads to the food that ALL three of the guys agree is the best version of what it's made from... and it used to be a throw-away!
Sam mentions gout and how uric acid build-up crystallizes and forms what resembles shards of glass, and talks about the pain and Richey had never heard of it.
Sam comments about "Lunch Lady Land," and breaks into song! Richey has never seen it (at the time of recording), and Sam STRONGLY URGES him to go watch the video.
No guest, this week? NO PROBLEM! Sam, Richey, and Little Matt carried on various food conversations for an entire show, and they had a blast doing it!
SO, sit back, relax, and enjoy the Contingency Plan: Food for Thought!

Through flexing the schedule, in the NFL, and us having to move our time together around, she was talking to us, while the Seahawks were playing a game! Why is she a Seahawks fan? What job did she hold that allowed her to show her love for them even more? WHAT WIDE RECEIVER HAD AN OIL PAINTING IN HER LIVING ROOM, when she was growing up?! You have to listen!

The 500 Section Lounge Podcast - E114: Jeff Rasley Returns to Put the Lounge Into a Pickle
play

01/25/22 • 72 min

We LOVE having guests return to the Lounge, and this week we have a delightful return! Author and adventurer, Jeff Rasely comes back to hang out with the guys!
Jeff hung out in May of 2021, and told great stories of his time in the Himalayas in Nepal and the Basa Village Foundation that he helped form, along with his time swimming with a whale! It was a great time, then, and this time it did NOT disappoint!
Shortly after his last visit, Jeff started writing a new book. He finished it and published it, and wanted to come back and talk about the release of "A Pickleball Soap Opera: Love, Murder, and Pickleball," available exclusively on Amazon! We think Jeff used that as a reason to come hang out and talk with the guys again!
Where did he get the information to incorporate into his book? Did he have "experts" to help him get things right? His answer MIGHT surprise you!
They talk about the premise of his new book, but also talk about his time as a lawyer and defending people who he thought might be or he knew were guilty, having a very special editor, and being told by his mom that part of the new book, "was tough to read."
The conversation moved to whether he was a fan of sports and the topic of hockey was brought up. The four talked extensively about growing up and watching the Fort Wayne Komets (IHL, ECHL), and the Indianapolis Ice (IHL, ECHL). An invitation was extended to the guys, and they JUST might take Jeff up on it SOON!
The conversation was light, fun, entertaining, and just plain awesome! He has a standing invitation to come back any time, and hang out with the guys! SO, sit back, relax, and enjoy our second visit with Jeff Rasley!

The 500 Section Lounge Podcast - E156: Jeff Ryan Talks Smuggling Ramen in the Lounge!
play

02/08/23 • 54 min

Repeat Lounge guest, Jeff Ryan is back this week! He's an author, hiking enthusiast, professional walker(?), and just an all-around great dude!
Sam asks Jeff about his MLB alliance since a significant piece of the 2016 World Series Champion Chicago Cubs retired this last week. The first segment is about a couple of sports topics, and it just seemed perfect!
What's Jeff been up to, since we last hung out? Well, he's been doing something VERY cool, and it brought up that he might be questioned for "smuggling ramen!"
Our conversation moves to how to properly find the right hiking boot. Is there a process? Tangented to shoe brands that don't work for specific foot types. OF COURSE, Sam has an opinion! This one... not horrible! : )
Jeff wrote & published a new book, "This Land Was Saved For You & Me: How Gifford Pinchot, Frederick Law Olmsted, and a Band of Foresters Rescued America's Public Lands," and they get into the history, a little, behind those involved in this story.
Jeff is always a great time, and it's always a pleasure to have him hang out and chat!

You can find where to buy ALL of his books!
