Send us a text

Kristyan Stjerne is a surfer, yogi, artist and a calming presence in pandemic times. Kristyan divides his time between California and Bali, making art, maintaining his yoga practice and connecting with the ocean. Kristyan finds his spiritual home in Uluwatu Bali, which is where we recorded this episode...sitting on the cliffs of the Bukit peninsula, listening to the sounds of the Indian Ocean bouncing waves off the reef. Uluwatu has always felt like a sacred place for me (like many) and to record a podcast in this location was a profound moment for me. Like Kristyan said to me recently "It is a sacred place for sacred souls".
When you spend time with Kristyan, you realise very quickly that you are in the presence of a deeply conscious human of a high frequency. You feel safe from judgement or ridicule when you are around him. Kindness, gratitude and empathy radiate. I am grateful our paths aligned so this conversation could take place. For me, there was some real healing that came out of our discussion both on and off record (who spoke for another hour or two after the show).

In this week's episode, Kristyan is with me to share his journey, experiences, challenges and hopes for the future.

#50 - David Stanford: Building for people, not profit.

David Stanford is a husband, father, entrepreneur and successful businessman.

Born in England, David migrated to Australia with his family at the age of 2 years old, he was raised in country Victoria (Australia), forced to go to University as a young man, got kicked out, joined the Australian Army Reserves, before realising his prowess in construction management. This led David to establishing his own successful construction company.

Currently, David resides in Bali with his wife Sarah, son Ned, and, like all of us, they are sitting tight through the intensity of a global pandemic and time of uncertainty.

David's logical, matter of fact, no-bullshit approach to life is refreshing and delivered with grace.

On this week's episode, David is with me (in isolation) on the the most special day of the year in the Balinese calendar...Nyepi. It was the perfect opportunity for David to reflect, share his journey, experiences, challenges and hopes for the future.
*This is 50 (consecutive) weekly episodes*

#52 - Darren Longbottom: The Sun.

Send us a text

Darren Longbottom is a surfer, father, businessmen and author. Darren has grown up living near the beach, and is born into a family with a rich surfing history. In fact, a family that has pioneered surfboard manufacturing, surfboard shaping and his father was even a key contributor to the establishment of professional surf competition formats, which have evolved into what we know today as the World Surf League (WSL). Darren was a successful competitive surfer in his younger years before moving into the surf industry and eventually owning a surf shop in which he still owns and operates to this very day. I believe that everyone’s life journey is unique and Darren’s is definitely no exception.

In his book, “Beyond the Break”, Darren recounts a significant direction-change that occurred in his life after having a freak accident occurred while surfing in a remote area of the Indonesian Archipelago.

In this week's episode, Darren is with me to share his journey, experiences, challenges and hopes for the future.

THIS IS 52 (WEEKLY) EPISODES!
Yep, 52 episodes in 52 weeks. I've been doing this podcast while working full-time at the Green School in Bali and raising two small children. The podcast has given my life a different type of (and unexpected) purpose. Connecting with guests and hearing their story has been more enriching than I could ever imagine. Every single episode has had its own flavour, setting, sound quality (literally) and message. What continues to resonate for me is this equation of people sharing, listening, identifying and, it seems to equal healing. If you are someone who has been listening regularly (I know you are out there). I thank you and I hope you have heard what you needed to hear, I hope this has eased feelings of isolation or at the very least, I hope you’ve been entertained...

I'd like to thank my wife Jade for her support, Christina Scarborough (or Christina the photographer) for shooting, filming and video editing clips, the Green School, Alex Brindell for composing and recording the intro music with me, friends, the guys at Indosole for believing in me and most importantly all of the guests for being brave enough to go on record, open up, make themselves vulnerable, and share their experiences, challenges and hopes for the future.
