With Hubert Hurkacz putting himself forward as a contender for Wimbledon with victory in Halle, and another title for Ons Jabeur in the build up to a Slam, things are hotting up nicely for The Championships just around the corner.
Joel and Kim assess the varying fortunes of British players so far on grass, debate who should open the Ladies Singles at Wimbledon in Barty’s absence, and reflect on the dangers of an unseeded Nick Kyrgios in the draw next week.
Kim also tests Joel with a new Mysterious Player (niche knowledge required!) and they also discuss news from the US Open that Russians WILL be allowed to play.

play

06/07/19 • 57 min

In the latest episode of The Passing Shot presents... Extra Slice, we take a look back on the historic tennis rivalry between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in conversation with the host of the Sports Wars podcast, Dan Rubenstein, who has researched and documented their rivalry from the very beginning.

We start in Miami 2004 at their first meeting and travel through subsequent match-ups on the red clay of Roland Garros and the green lawns of Wimbledon; including THAT final in 2008.

Check out the Sports Wars website or search 'Sports Wars' on iTunes to listen to all episodes about the rivalry in their Federer v Nadal series as well as other famous sporting rivalries.

Clay season is here and that can only mean one thing... Joel, Kim and Chris are on hand to travel (virtually) across the globe and debate all the key talking points from the past week on tour. With Casper Ruud and Ons Jabeur back to winning ways in Estoril and Charleston respectively, Tatjana Maria defending her Bogota title and Francis Tiafoe playing non stop tennis for two days to win in Houston, there is lots to wrap up (not to mention the Barbie memes doing the rounds on social media!)

They also discuss why there are so few WTA 250 events on the tour in the run up to Roland Garros, how Nicholas Massu’s departure may help Dominic Thiem and who is the most likely contender for this week’s Monte Carlo Masters Crown.

Joel also tests Kim and Chris with their knowledge of Monte Carlo finalists from this Millennium.

Joel and Chris cover all Round 3 events in Flushing Meadows, from Djokovic’s Djere escape to Jack Draper making the second week of a slam for the first time.

Chris is still reporting from New York experiencing the US Open first hand and provides the inside courtside scoop on the action.

Wozniacki keeps her dream run alive, Pegula scuppers Svitolina’s chance to go further than Wimbledon and the US Men keep winning with four players still in the singles mix to bring the title home.

As always they make predictions (or try to) for the order of play and preview the last 16 as things get to the business end in the Big Apple.

In the latest episode of The Passing Shot, the tennis podcast by fans, Joel and Kim preview the French Open 2021 men’s and women’s singles draws.
They discuss the lopsided nature of the men’s draw, with the Big 3 all falling in one half and what this may mean for Rafa’s aims to clinch a 14th title on the Parisian clay. They also debate the most likely finalist from the bottom half.
From Serena’s form to Osaka’s recent statement concerning the press, Joel and Kim also predict who will come through the women’s draw, which sees favourites Barty and Swiatek both in the top half.
They also make some possibly terrible predictions (as usual) and announce the latest edition of Collect A Set, the predictions game you can all join in with (send us your guesses before the start of play on Sunday!)

Hot! Hot! Hot! A historic Sunday start and the first round is now (finally) in the bag. Join Joel and Chris as they look back on all the action from the first three days including Caroline Garcia's outstanding serving display to oust the returning Naomi Osaka, Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova's shock exit and Novak Djokovic getting pushed like never before in Round 1 of a Grand Slam.

They also assess the Brit performances where there were highs (Raducanu's return!), lows (Murray's performance) and Jack Draper vomming into a bin. Lovely!

There's also news of Alexander Zverev's trial date set for during the French Open and a polite debate on the merits of the Australian Open's new rule to allow fans in at the end of every game. Additionally, the Tennis Weekly duo reveal their Collect-A-Set player pick predictions, which have already gone one better than Kim's...
