You may feel tension and tightness in your chest, discomfort in your stomach, tightness in your shoulders and neck, and a feeling of wanting to shrink or disappear. This is the effect of judgment and shame.
The reason I am discussing this topic is many young mothers experience judgment and are riddled with shame.

Many teen moms and adult mothers who themselves were teen moms feel or have felt shame, and it caused them to want to withdraw and hide. Shame, however, can't survive empathy. Empathy is the ability to emotionally connect with what the other person is feeling, see things from their point of view, and put yourself in their shoes. In today's episode I talk about 5 ways everyone can demonstrate empathy.

Today I being a 5-part series entitled Healing the Shame That Binds You.

  • This series is all about looking at the two types of shame: healthy and toxic shame and the difference between the two.
  • It's about looking at the sources of toxic shame: the family system, the school system, the religious system, and the cultural system.
  • It's about recognizing how we seek to hide and cover up our shame --through codependent behaviors, narcissistic personality, all addictions, and criminal behaviors.
  • This series is about helping you heal your shame, so you can nurture the emotional development of your children. Being a model of healthy shame for them, they develop your healthy shame, and you interrupt generational cycles in your family.

For this series I'm references several sources, but primarily I'm referencing John Bradshaw's book, Healing the Shame That Binds You.
