Positive Impact Hero #14 Pastor Harry Jones

07/03/17 • 123 min

Team Shelby Racing Show
Harry began his athletic life in Karlsruhe, Germany where his father was stationed with the US Army and where he focused on baseball and basketball. After his family returned to the US, he attended and played at Nether Providence High School (now Strath Haven) and received The Distinguished Graduate Award. Jones received nine (9) high school varsity letters, in football, basketball and baseball. He received acceptance to Western Kentucky University in April of his senior year as a student not an athlete. As a freshman, he was just a student among the total population of students. It was not until the fall of his sophomore year that he was given a chance to try out for the baseball team. After the tryouts he was selected to be one of those to be on the team for the upcoming baseball season in the spring. Jones was the first Afro-American to make a major impact at Western Kentucky University. In his first year, he was all conference first team center-fielder and he led WKU in hitting with a 333 batting average. Then he was awarded an athletic scholarship for his final two years. The next two years he was selected again to the first team all-conference with a 317 and 368 batting average respectively. He was a three year starter and was also a first team selection for the Ohio Valley Conference for those three years.
