Tao of Our understanding Alcohol Recovery Podcast

Tao of Our understanding Alcohol Recovery Podcast

Tao Recovery Community

In this podcast, we discuss mystical works of literature, primarily Taoist text, and how they relate to alcohol recovery. Taoist Philosophy can be an excellent tool for embracing the idea of a “Higher Power.” Nature offers all of the examples necessary for a concept of a source of all life, much different but yet very similar in many ways to more traditional religious thinking. Here is a link to an online version of the Tao Te Ching; https://ttc.tasuki.org/display:Year:1972,1988,1996,2004/section:1 Thanks for checking out our podcast. If you listen and enjoy this podcast, please share with your friends in recovery! Do you want to stop drinking? Does alcoholism or addiction run in your family? Are you considering how to get sober? Are you seriously thinking about sobriety for the first time being alcohol is controlling your life as never before? Has the idea of a "Higher Power" kept you out of Alcoholics Anonymous or other 12 Step recovery programs?

I hope you enjoy Don's story!

We are taking a break from the weekly group meeting and interviewing some past participants, Facebook group members, and a few authors. If your recovery has been enhanced by Taoist text, don't hesitate to contact us and share your experience!

Here are some of the questions we tackle;

1. Background; Where from, vocation, family, a picture of your life then and now.

2. Has your view of the H.P. changed since you started your recovery journey? How similar is your present H.P. to the one you grew up with?

3. Why does the Tao speak to you? How do you see your relationship with the Tao? What is the Tao to you?

4. Do you have a favorite Tao verse or quote?

5. Do you recommend any Tao podcasts other than this one?

6. Any Tao-related books or devotionals?

Our spiral from spiritual fitness to thinking a drink would be a good idea can be very subtle. This story demonstrates the spiral. For me, if there is something in my life that I start to control that I should be surrendering, I will lose my peace. If I remain in that state of peacelessness long enough (step 2), I start having outward unmanageability (step 1). The outward unmanageability can take many forms, including control, anger, resentment, dishonesty, or fear.

In the 58th Chapter of the Tao Te Ching, Lao Tzu describes viewing your life far above good and bad circumstances or valleys and mountain tops. We also discussed the way to influence others – not by trying to change the people around us but by loving them instead and giving them room to find their own way. We also discussed how to and not to respond to sponsees in recovery.
