Tales from the Rave

Rob Tissera has been on the scene since the early beginnings of house music in 1988.
His musical journey started whilst attending illegal acid house parties around the M25, where he was a regular at the Back to the future & Sunrise parties. This inspired him to take up the art of DJing.

After moving up north, Rob learned his trade by playing on the pirate radio stations in Blackburn. This lead to him playing at some of the legendary illegal raves throughout the early nineties. He remains one of the only DJ's in history to be put in jail for these exploits. He served 3 months in 1991 for incitement to riot. This was the springboard for his entire career as promoters clambered over themselves to book him.
Rob was a resident DJ at two of the north's very best events ARK and Bowlers. He has also been a monthly resident for Club UK, The leisure Lounge, Sunnyside Up, Golden, Gatecrasher, Sundissential, Fantazia, Resurrection, Garlands,

Since then, he not only travelled the world as an international house and hard house DJ but was also a founding father of the club phenomenon Kissdafunk.

He has toured Australia and New Zealand eleven times and played all of Ibiza's finest venues over the past 25 years including Pacha, El Divino, Amnesia, Eden, Space, Sankeys, Es Paradis, Benemussa Zoo, Summum and Privilege.

Rob is also the creator of the seminal dance classic The Day Will Come as his alter ego Quake with Ian Bland. The track along with many others has appeared on a raft of 'Best of' music compilations. Quake also produced three tracks for the legendary film "Human Traffic"
Join me Derick Karma as I chat with Rob about the early days, illegal raves, the opening night of his Kissdafunk brand and getting stranded overseas in the middle of a revolution whilst touring with Slinky.

#004: Jay Wearden part two (of two) - Tales from the Rave

Jay Wearden started his DJ career in 1988, initially as a scratch DJ in a Hip Hop group. He gained his first weekly residency at Manchester's Precinct 13 in the same year.

At the age of 19, after an unsuccessful stint in Ibiza, Jay secured a weekly Thursday & Saturday night at the infamous Thunderdome.

The seminal club was packed to the rafters every week and became the go-to venue for the masses who wanted an alternative to what the Hacienda had to offer. Whilst forging a strong partnership with his mentor, the highly respected DJ Steve Williams, Jay also built a large local following of Hardcore Ravers. This period was the most fundamental period in his career which gave him his foundations in his future musical style and direction.

He became one of the key players in the rise of the House scene in Manchester, playing at the well documented Blackburn raves and across the country, primarily a constant feature of huge Streetrave parties around Scotland.

Join me, Derick Karma as I chat with Jay about his first trip up to Scotland and the night Alex Higgins (ex-world champion snooker player) was playing pool with people who were in various states of consciousness.
