Take the Reins - Equestrians Taking Action Beyond Awareness
play

09/21/21 • 26 min

In this episode I share why I believe the work we are embarking on together is so important, maybe even the most important, for us to do as equestrians, do a brief reading from Cleaning Up Your Mental Mess by Dr. Caroline Leaf to show you where I am leading you this season, and I discuss the difference between Growth and Healing on your journey of self-discovery and the unique path each of us may choose along the way to get the support we want or need, just as we do when deciding how to advance our riding or horsemanship. I finish the episode by expressing again the importance of the work we are embarking on and how it is only fair for us to be willing to do the hard work when we expect it of our horses.

Take the Reins - Pressure: What it means for you and your horses
play

09/28/21 • 18 min

In this episode I discuss the phenomenon of pressure and the importance of tuning into our own daily pressures as an equestrian. Within the episode I share a condensed pressure audit that will help bring some perspective and personal awareness to your pressure and how it effects your relationship with your horse. Pressure is something that we all know well, but it was the brilliance of Beth Anstandig that truly tuned me into the need to improve my understanding of it and ability to attend to it for the betterment of my horsemanship and communication as a whole.

Welcome to the final episode of Season 1 of the Take the Reins Podcast. In this episode I have the honor of speaking with the hosts of the Young Black Equestrians Podcast where we speak candidly about diversifying the equestrian sport. We discuss the reality of the lack of representation of POC in publications, advertisements, etc and the need for it to be considered for the sport to become more welcoming and in turn, diverse.

Take the Reins - Whether you like it or not...in the most loving way
play

04/20/21 • 35 min

In this episode I share 3 conclusions I have come to over the last few weeks as a result of reading a social media thread regarding personal development and horsemanship. This episode allows me a place to share my thoughts on the following: Our inability to separate personal development from our development as an equestrian, that there is nothing "woo woo" about connecting the two, and that I am honoured to be taking part in forward thinking conversation within the horse community that puts the relationship with the horse at the forefront. Thank you for being part of this incredible ride and for doing the hard work of being accountable, honest, and loving.
