Superhero movies and tv – Super Sideshow - Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - characters & stuff
play

05/13/22 • 52 min

We talk about the characters and stuff of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness!

Show notes...

Earth-616: This is the “main” universe for the Marvel stories. In “Multiverse of Madness, the MCU universe was referred to as 616, but that’s not really accurate.

America Chavez: An inter-dimensional explorer. Her powers are very similar as they are in the comics, and she’s further proof that the MCU is planning some “Young Avenger” team up.

Gargantos: He’s just a big monster.

Darkhold: This book has played a lot of roles in Marvel comics, including stuff with the Midnight Sons. It’s odd that it was destroyed in the movie.

Book of the Vishanti: Another magic book from the comics, but lesser known.

Tommy and Billy: More evidence of an upcoming Young Avengers project. This is super complex in the comics, the twins being born from odd magic and deals with devils.

Mr. Fantastic: This is the first time we’ve had any reference of the Fantastic Four in the MCU. Reed is super smart and formed the Illuminati. Fans have been begging John Krasinski to play Reed Richards for years.

Maria Rambeau as Captain Marvel: The Captain Marvel from the movie is sort of like the Monica Rambeau Captain Marvel from the comics. But, this was Maria, not Monica. And Maria had no super powers in the comics, except being a great mother to Monica, who would go on to be Captain Marvel in the comics.

Captain Carter: We’ve seen her in “What If” and now we get to see the live action version, played by Hayley Atwell! She was great, no matter how you slice it!

Professor X: Our first hint of the X-men in the MCU. Professor X was also a founding member of the Illuminati. Patrick Stewart played the Professor in several X-men movies. Will he play him more?

Black Bolt: Another founding member of the Illuminati and has powers that will blow your mind!

Mount Wundagore: This is the mountain where Quicksilver and the Scarlett Witch were raised in the comics. And, well, other stuff happened here too.

Monsters in the Temple: Chthon created the Darkhold and he created creatures using the Darkhold, like the ones we saw.

Rintrah: A big cow-man with magic training, taught by Strange himself.

Clea: This was a huge reveal. Clea is Strange’s love interest. They married. Dr. Strange died. Clea took his place and is currently the Sorcerer Supreme in the Marvel comics 616 universe. She has direct ties to Dormammu. If you looked closely, Clea tore a hole in reality and the Dormammu universe art assets are on the other side.

Jarvis has an eye for the handsome men of the MCU. In this episode, he lists out the top ten most handsome men of the MCU. Mike invited Veronica from the SJW Comic Book Club podcast to let us know where Jarvis got it wrong.

Show notes...

Paul Bettany wore a prosthetic butt in WandaVision.

Benedict Cumberbatch at his most handsome in an SNL skit about toilets.

News you can abuse!

Watch the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law trailer with us as we comment on it.

Yes! A new Daredevil series is in the works for Disney+!

Veronica’s top ten

  1. Short-hair Thor
  2. Steve Rogers
  3. T'Challa
  4. Peter Parker
  5. Loki
  6. Tony Stark
  7. Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo)
  8. Stephen Strange
  9. Heimdal (would be higher with more screen time)
  10. I don't care about anyone enough to even have 10 so I'll say it's between Drax and Scott Lang

Mike’s reordered version of Jarvis’s top ten

  1. Steve Rogers
  2. Thor
  3. Scott Lang
  4. Shang-Chi
  5. The Winter Soldier
  6. Killmonger
  7. Vision
  8. Peter Parker
  9. Sam Wilson / Captain America
  10. Hulk

Hear Jarvis complain about a good movie. Mike reveals an awesome thing about Thor’s goats from Norse mythology.

Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit.

Show notes

Yes, Gorr the God-Butcher is from the comics. But he’s a bit different, and so is the sword that he used.

Toothgrinder and Toothgnasher are from the comics and the Norse myths.

Jane Foster has cancer: This is very accurate. In fact, how they handle the Mighty Thor is accurate to the comics, except it happens far, far too quickly. Fear not, True Believer! Jane Foster is still alive in the comics as Valkyrie.

Omnipotent City: From the comics, seen in the God Butcher story line from 2012.

There is an interpretation of Zeus in Marvel comics, but he has many different versions. As for his “Thunderbolt” weapon: no. That’s not a thing.

Eternity is in the comics, but is nothing like the movie portrayed.

Hercules and Thor have butted heads a ton of times, so this is nothing new, really. Hercules is an Avenger in the comics.

We talk about the “So This Is Christmas?” Episode of Hawkeye with special guests Veronica and Melissa from The SJW Comic Book Club podcast. Hear about Kingpin, trick arrows, Echo, Tracksuit Mafia, The Swordsman, and more!

Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit.

Links from the discussion...

The Hawkeye tv series is very loosely based on the Hawkeye comic series. There is still a lot of meat on the bone for future projects.

The Kingpin in this episode was....fine. But not great. He can fight, though, so that's correct.

All these trick arrows were seen in the final episode.

In the comics, Kate and Clint both call each other "Hawkeye." Which I think is fun.

News you can abuse!

People in Norway want to see Spider-Man: No Way Home so bad that they are leaving the country to do it!

Happy Hogan was supposed to die in Iron Man 3?

I guess people thought it was worth getting Covid to watch Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Take these Sony/Marvel Spider-Man rumors with a grain of salt. A huge grain of salt.

An interesting interview with Kevin Feige where he doesn't say much of anything.

We talk about the "Partners, am I right?” episode of Hawkeye and the things you missed if you don't read the comics. Hear about Kate Bishop, Yelena Belova, the Rolex, Echo, Bombshell, and more!

Talk with us on Twitter and Reddit.

Links from the discussion...

Yelena Belova has joined the fight!

Please remember that Yelena is nothing in the MCU like she is in the comics.

In the Hawkeye comic that this series is loosely based on, Clint is viewed as a womanizer. He cheats on his girlfriend in the comics and treats women pretty terribly. That's not how the show is portraying him (thankfully).

Mike has a theory that Kate's mother is going to be the villain. Maybe?

Bombshell’s first mission was to team up with Oddball and Silencer to kidnap Hawkeye. She kept her bombs in a duffle bag.

News you can abuse!

Venom is officially in the MCU. (sigh)

We are getting a Shang-Chi sequel, baby!

Daredevil is for sure coming to the MCU and Charlie Cox is going to play him.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a thing!

We talk about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and the things you missed if you don't read the comics. Hear about Ego, Starlord, Sovereign, Yondu, Ravagers, Mantis, Adam Warlock, and more!

Talk with us on Twitter.

Links from the discussion...

Ayesha the High Priestess is closely associated with Adam Warlock in the comics. The Sovereigns don’t exist in the comics.

Ego the living planet isn’t Peter Quill’s father and isn’t a Celestial.

Mantis was trained in martial arts by the Kree who thought she would become the Celestial Madonna.

Yondu is a Centaurian. Yondu's "whistle arrow" is not in the comics. He was in the original Guardians of the Galaxy.

You can see why he’s called Taserface in the comics. Also, he’s ridiculous.

The original Guardians of the Galaxy was Vance Astro, Martinex T'Naga, Captain Charlie-27, and Yondu Udonta. Later members included Stakar Ogord, Aleta Ogord, and Nikki.

Adam Warlock played a key role in defeating Thanos in the comics. Not sure what Marvel plans to do with him at this point, if anything.
