The best podcasts for thoughtful pop story discussions.

I'm one of three hosts of The SJW Comic Book Club, where we discuss one comic arc at a time among friends in order to learn more about comics together. I love examining old and new stories through a modern, critical lens, and sharing stories and experiences together with others. I'm a reader, writer, gamer, and amateur critic who loves to over-analyze everything from comics to novels, commercials to myself. I read stories and I talk about them. Every story has something to say about the human experience, no matter how much magic, sci-fi, superheroics, or overblown drama it contains. Sometimes, those wish-fulfillment stories have the most to say about what it means to be a person living in a time and a place that produced them.

On our podcast, we approach one comic book arc/graphic novel at a time and analyze it from a literary and progressive lens, judging it on its own merits so that you don't need to know a huge backlog of canon to follow along. We also take time out to do mini episodes covering other nerdy/internet-cuture topics of particular interest to us.

These are shows that we have collaborated with. They're mostly about comics, but some cover other topics, like genre fiction and movies. But each emphasizes accessibility and an open-minded curiosity and collaborative discussion about the stories in their medium of choice.
