Voices from the Archive: Jodi Jones

07/09/24 • 21 min

StoryTown Radio

In this month's Voices from the Archive, we hear from Jodi Jones about a summertime endeavor. She had been spending her mornings swimming in Watauga Lake with friends when she had an idea. A person could swim the length of the lake. That's a twelve and a half mile swim. This story takes you into the water as Jodi swims around obstacles and toward dry land, one mile at a time.

Voices from the Archive is a monthly segment of StoryTown Radio. It shares stories from people living here, just how they told them. You might think of it like a news report that tells you about all sorts of things. From ghost stories to apple butter, you could learn just about anything from the people living here in East Tennessee. Listen in as they tell the stories of their lives here in Appalachia.

StoryTown Radio is a production of the McKinney Center's Story Initiative. Grounded in the belief that stories connect people to each other, the Story Initiative sets out to collect, archive, and share the stories from the region. Broadcast from Jonesborough, Tennessee, the Storytelling Capital of the World, StoryTown Radio is one way these stories are shared with people, nearby and all around.

Director's Cut Podcast No. 4: Romeo's Gift & Smoke Signals

The Director's Cut podcast shares stories that did not make the final cut for the live version of the StoryTown Radio Show. They're still great stories, though, and deserve to be shared. These stories were submitted for the "Our Animal Friends" show in May of 2024. "Romeo's Gift" is a sweet story written by sarah elizabeth about her friend's dog. "Smoke Signals" is a farm tale of courage written by Lisa Holley. Kick back and enjoy with your four-legged friends.
