Welcome to Episode 186 of the Sounds Like a Search and Rescue Podcast. This week we are joined by Anthony Lahout. Anthony is part of the Lahout family, the caretakers and owners of the oldest ski shop in the United States. Lahout’s was founded in 1920 as a small country store in Littleton, NH, the Lahout Family - driven by Anthony’s grandfather Joe Lahout became the lifeblood that ushered in the growth of the ski industry in the northeast. Retail businesses are always a challenging endeavor, Lahouts has endured and thrived across their 8 locations in Lincoln and Littleton, NH. We are very excited and honored for Anthony to join us to share his story with us.

Episode 185 - Cindy and Paul from 48 Peaks - Alzheimer’s Association, Rescue on Franconia Ridge, Man lives with Goats
Welcome to episode 185 of the sounds like a search and rescue podcast. This week our friends from 48 Peaks - the Alzheimer’s Association join us as we join the fight against Alzhiemers by encouraging everyone to participate in the 2025 The Longest Day - 48 Peaks hiking and fundraising event. Cindy is a multi time guest on SLASR and Paul is a personal hiking buddy of mine so we will get some updates from Cindy on her adventures and Paul will probably spill the beans on hiking with me over the last year or so plus he will share his personal story of how alzheimers has impacted his family and his journey to raise funds through 48 Peaks. All this plus huge snowfalls coming to NH, some reminders about staying prepared for adverse weather conditions, a rescue on Franconia Ridge, more place name changes in the news, and the story of a man who was adopted by a herd of goats.

Episode 187 - Veterans on the 48, Forest Service Staffing Cuts, and Trail Adoption Season is starting
Welcome to episode 187 of the Sounds Like A Search and Rescue Podcast. This week we are joined by Mike York, the founder and President of Veterans on the 48. Veterans on the 48 is dedicated to getting more veterans outside and onto the trails to promote healthy lifestyles both physically and mentally. The group leads hikes for veterans, supports veterans interested in Wilderness First Aid classes, provides hiking gear, volunteers for trail maintenance and partners with other veteran groups. Michael will join us to share his story. Plus, staffing cuts hit the WMNF and nationwide, there was a recent rescue on Mt. Moosilauke, some avalanche activity on Mount Washington, options and timelines for trail adoption, and a recent hike on Pleasant Mountain and an ice fishing excursion in Western Maine.
