1970’s to Present
As I grew up I would get hyper focused on things and about learning. I would put all of my attention into whatever task interested me and then after a while I would get burnt out on it. Then I would switch to my new hyper fixation. I always had crazy vivid dreams and as I have aged it has become problematic because I was constantly tired. I would wake up exhausted because I had been guiding in my dreams all night. I finally broke down and was diagnosed with ADHD and told to take a mild drug to help me focus. This has helped me a lot to be able to get good rest but at the same time has not changed who or what I am. I still have a crazy brain that is constantly moving 1000 miles an hour and taking in everything around me (sights/sounds/emotions) but has allowed me to focus just a little more.
If you are interested in understanding ADHD more check out the videos and publications from Russell Barkley, PhD. It is great information and has helped me a lot.
Funny how when you look back over your life it is easy to see why you did the things you did but thought you knew everything in the moment. Thank goodness for amazing parents, grandparents and my wife.

This is one of those very special places to me. I love going on adventures and seeing new places. I hope you will get out and experience it for yourself sometime. I have added some links for the lodge we rented our canoes from as well as the page to get your BWCA permit below.

From my youngest moments I have been an artist. My Grandpa Dean and Grandma Betty were both skilled oil painters. I began true art training with them. My love grew for charcoals and pencil art in high school, and I was blessed to be the visual art Sterling Scholar. This led me to courses in college I don’t think I would have taken otherwise but it changed how I view the world and spaces in it. I continued studying and practicing art on my own for many years before falling into decoy carving and learning to paint realistic color on a non-flat surface. The learning curve was harsh and now I have returned to flat art and color and oil painting because why not continue to learn and grow. Once again, I have found peace in my mind through an art and I love the creative process. I think I may jump into paining decoys with oils now just to see how I like it. I can always paint over it and start over if I want. Like Bob Ross says, “You can do anything you want in your world.” Art is my world...
