Slam the Gavel welcomes Brenda Bryant to the podcast. Brenda is an advocate for special needs, vulnerable adults and judicial reform. Brenda started advocating for her daughter who has an intellectual disability, diagnosed at age two.
This began many years of advocacy from school to sports. The nightmare actually began when her daughter turned 18 years of age and at that time, Federal Government/State agencies began opening up "group homes," with 3 to 4 special needs clients to a home and were receiving the Social Security funds and Medicare Waiver. Her daughter had a caseworker with the State Dept. and six months prior to her 18th birthday, they asked Brenda if she would like her daughter to go into a group home. Brenda and her husband were confronted several times regarding this. However, when her daughter did turn 18, they went to her school with a three/four page contract and had her called out of her class and sign herself into State's care....she printed her name at a first grade reading level on a LEGAL DOCUMENT giving the state the right to make her medical decisions and to place her wherever they wanted her placed and this was in October of 1993.
Her daughter did not come home from school. The State Department had refused to tell Brenda where her daughter was and there was no DSS allegations. The state agency told Brenda that her daughter, "is a legal adult and she is 18 and you have no say in her legal rights."
Brenda began to investigate and this podcast explains exactly what happened to Brenda's daughter and where the money went. Brenda remains hopeful and is close with God saying, "If you have the courage to begin, you have the courage to finish, finish well. Never ever, ever give up."

Trish and Barry Guise joined us on Slam the Gavel to discuss their families journey through Family Court and Coercive Control.
Barry, born and raised in Calgary, graduated from the University of Calgary, and has had a career in the finance industry – the last 15 years with a local Bank where he ran the Treasury and Finance departments.
After divorcing his first wife, he found himself the target of alienation which resulted in being abruptly ripped away from his young son’s life. Realizing that the legal system had failed to protect the relationship with his son, he resigned himself to the fact he may never see his son again. However, his parents were “allowed” to see their grandchild. This was because the ex-wife had carefully coached their son to think that he was “scared” of his father and only “partly scared” to see the grandparents.
After receiving information about his son from his parents it felt like he was only deserving of a “report card." There were days when it felt like not receiving any information about his son was the least painful alternative.
Trish and Barry had dated when they were teenagers. A few years after being the target of alienation, Trish and Barry reunited. All seemed to be going well between with the two of them and Trish’s two children. What nobody realized is that under the surface, Trish’s ex-husband was carefully planning and executing a targeted alienation strategy of his own – with Barry as the target.
His situation of twice being the target of an alienating parent, one female and one male, is hopefully unique. However, his experience brings to light the fact that, although the stats may not reflect it, men are also the victims of coercive abuse.
A reason this may not be reflected in the stats is that many men don’t report the abuse as a result of the shame associated with the abuse and fear of a negative reaction (concern that others may think he did something to deserve to be the target of alienation).
Historically men are in a quandary when understanding and processing their feelings. Far too often men are rewarded for not crying, being tough and displaying anger and labeled as soft or weak when they display true feelings (other than anger).
After countless hours of counseling, Barry was able to start being honest about his own feelings. This opened up a world with much less weight on his shoulders. He realized he didn’t have to “like” everything, not everyday was “great”, some things were awful, and some days did really suck.
Amazingly, some 12 years after having his son abruptly ripped from my life, his son reappeared back into Barry's life – almost as abruptly.
It is difficult to describe the roller coaster of emotions Barry experienced in each situation. However, if he had to come up with 1 or 2 words to describe how he felt, they would be as follows: 1) Being the target of alienation by the ex-wife: Anger and resentment. 2) Being the target of alienation the second time, this time from Trish’s ex-husband: Anger and guilt. 3) Being reunited with his son: resentment and anxiety. Barry is grateful that he spent all those hours with his counsellor. Being able to honestly acknowledge and process his feelings was a tremendous help during this time and still is.

Slam the Gavel welcomes back author Kenneth Gottfried to the podcast. Ken was last on Season 2, Episode108, 122 and 148 and Season 3, Episode 98 and Season 4, Episode 5. He discussed his book, VICTIM How the American Psychological Association Kills Parents, Abuses Children & Grows Their Base and his website childabusivejudges.com.
We had discussed judges documented as child psychological abusers. No sheriffs department or police department want to fill out a report on Child Psychological Abuse. However, it revolves around money.
Anyone who is in this Parental Alienation or Family Court sphere, in their realm and how we happen to deal with so many parents and the TOLL it takes on us and how UNDERSTANDING that we all have levels of PTSD and all these things that have happened to parents. Some of the more stressors are the people that contact us are literally off the chain. It's a hard thing because we want to HELP everybody and what do we do when we talk to a person who is totally unregulated because of severe PTSD and we UNDERSTAND this because we have been through it. Sometimes it's too much for us and can take a heavy toll on us. Everybody is unhinged to a certain degree and Family Court and CPS has MADE them this way.
We discussed how some people are calm and rational that are about15%. People losing their kids, a victim of Domestic violence are about 50%. However the other percentage are people that can't be told anything, take advice or listen because they are set in stone. No matter what you say you are now on their bad side.
Great discussion about how to handle child psychological abuse when reporting to the authorities. Great podcast with so much information packed into 30 MINUTES!

Slam the Gavel welcomes back Vincent McGovern, Author, who was last on Slam the Gavel in Season 2, Episode 107 to discuss Parental Alienation. We discussed how the term is loosely thrown around in the family court system so one parent can gain advantage over another. However, it is the child that pays dearly.
Discussing statistics, Vincent states that Mothers obtain custody 95% in the UK, however Fathers obtain custody in 95% in Nigeria. How rare it is that a judge recognizes Parental Alienation for what it actually is and how it is being used among personality disorders in the courtroom. It is indeed the state that controls the destiny of the child and parents do not realize this until they set foot into a courtroom.
Between a custody battle and poverty playing it's role, it then creates an avalanche effect and that's where mother's lose out. It is the, "win or take all," mentality in an adversarial court system designed to destroy families.
Vincent discusses how judges are not making decisions nor enforcing the orders and there is no regulation or inspection on outcomes of these cases.
Vincent also discussed "perverted chauvinism," that literally force mothers into making false allegations. More to come in our next podcast in November!
Below is his 2020 presentation to the ICMI 20 Conference on YouTube. His views are his own, and he doesn't speak for the charity.
Vincent discusses how shared parenting is not viewed the same in the US as in the UK. He states he is not a Father's Rights Activist, but an activist for the rights of the children as children are the first to be weaponized in the family court system. Once a parent is targeted they will lose the most because they are either too honest and not aware of how the system was designed. The excellent conversation on his book was very insightful and informative. It is a must read.

Slam the Gavel welcomes Amanda Story to the podcast. Her case takes place in Forsyth, North Carolina, where as a mother, she only sees her children four days out of the month. Amanda has gone through five attorneys who did nothing for her, but only made things worse by not presenting evidence while in court. In the beginning, her ex had told her, "I will not pay you anything." But it gets much worse than that. This is a family violence situation, she has been threatened by her ex the entire time she was married to him. Amanda had been diagnosed with breast cancer when her ex left. Amanda was taking care of her children as well as his ex wife's children.
Amanda was face-timing her son and took screen shots of what was going on as she saw a gun going towards her child's head. Prior to mediation, Amanda showed her attorney and right after that she got an Exparte Emergency Custody Order ON HER CLAIMING that she was the ABUSER. She was not allowed to go to court. They claimed there was no court. She NEVER got to show evidence or have her say. They took 50% of her custody away from her. Apparently, her ex has friends. Her ex's goal is to have Amanda on supervised visits.
Going back to court, her ex now wants to take away ALL her time with her children. The only four days she has with them for the MONTH. He is also demanding that she get a psychological evaluation. Amanda is trying to find a way to end the litigation. There are so many moving parts to her case such as the Parent Coordinator who won't take the evidence of abuse. Amanda knows this is about power and control and there is NO recourse and NO remedy.
We discussed Brian Vukadinovich's podcast Season 4, Episode 119, Dolores Feliciano's podcast, Season 4, Episode 136 and Jennifer Hankins Lundy, Season 4, Epsisode 131. All discussions offered solutions and change.
All Amanda wants is to be free of this 'family court,' and live her life sharing her kids.

Slam the Gavel welcomes Mark T. Andrews back on the show to talk about the perils of PTSD when trapped in the Family Court System. After going through Family Court system for 19 years and 73 hearings later, Mark explains how he has suffered two heart attacks with a couple of stents and an open heart surgery. Every six years he has had a heart procedure.
Anxiety is a player in all of this when a parent is thinking about what can happen next in the Family Court nightmare. We talked about sleep disturbances affecting our lives. REM sleep is very important to our bodies. Mark states, "we suffer and they make money."
The courts keep creating income, not settling these cases via Legal Abuse Syndrome. The children are the ones that are suffering the most through this. Mark didn't get to see his kids graduate nor get married. "Not knowing about your kids and not knowing if they are safe," Mark states, "adds to the PTSD." Mark hasn't heard from his daughter since 2008 nor his son. He is an erased father. Missing milestones; your child getting taller, graduating from high school and getting married and not being able to be there further the affects of PTSD.
None of us planned to go to law school after we got married. No one counts on spouses changing. Personality Disorders should be addressed prior to marriage. The next generation is going to have to put their foot down to stop the buying and selling of human chattel in a courtroom. Family Court goes on and on and on.
We talked about fraud on the court and how long our own cases have lingered in the courts. The courts have incentive to chase a parent until it gets its money. Child Support for instance, that debt weighs on a person. Debt also furthers PTSD. Everything snowballs into a heartbreaking disaster and the children are the ones that will have permanent emotional scars.
All parents just want their children to be happy and that they don't have to go through this Family Court nightmare in their lives.

Slam the Gavel welcomes Deborah Craig from Glasgow, Scotland. Deborah was last on the podcast February 2, 2023, Season 4, Episode 26. Her focus is on Intuitive Life Mentoring, Hypnotherapy and Personal Development.
We discussed toxicity in families and friends and how to handle toxic behaviors within family dynamics. It's not the people that are TOXIC, it is the behaviors, actions and thought processes that are not helpful. If a person's energy is being expended externally or they are being dragged down by other people and their periphery whether family or friends who are not aligned to how they want to be then that in itself can actually be really impactful in bringing people DOWN and keeping them DOWN, rather than be able to flourish and live the life they really want to live and do it in a happy and healthy way.
Random acts of kindness, a feeling of gratefulness. When people help others it the best feeling in the world. What makes that person feel good in helping others, in turn makes them feel good.
VICTIMHOOD MENTALITY is a difficult area for people to deal with but they have to realize they are in CONTROL. Understand what are they are in control of: their own thoughts, actions and behaviors. They are not in control of what other people are going to do, think or say. If a person can separate and focus on what they can control, it is easier it is to climb their way out of victimhood mentality, but it is a JOURNEY. When you want things to CHANGE, it can CHANGE.
We also talked about MY experience with HYPNOSIS under Deborah that I experienced yesterday as she worked with me to help RELEASE the feelings of things that were troublesome in my life. It was LIFE CHANGING for the better and I actually felt the weight I was carrying around on my back lifted off. This experience literally changed my life SO MUCH for the BETTER.

Slam the Gavel welcomes filmmaker, Ginger Gentile to the podcast. Ginger is a filmmaker, speaker and coach. Ginger is passionate about using her skills to help people and make a difference in this world. Educating, raising awareness, Ginger has used story telling to inspire others. Committed to helping families heal through and after divorce and trauma, Ginger has appeared on Red Table Talk, Bravo, SXSW, NBC and other podcasts. Since "Erasing Family," came out in 2020 (can be found free on YouTube). Ginger has dealt with high conflict divorce, trauma and Parental Alienation.
Her first film, "Erasing Dad," in 2014 was censored in Argentina, making front page news as well as forcing her to leave the country. Fathers suddenly came out of nowhere to talk about how they couldn't see their kids. At that time, in Argentina, mothers primarily had full custody. After her film came out, Argentina has since changed the law, allowing joint custody and no more gender bias in the law.
Ginger came back to the U.S. and found that a lot of mothers couldn't see their kids and that's it's more about money. The kids themselves, as young as seven were on social media talking about how they couldn't see a parent or a sibling. This is when Ginger made the film, "Erasing Families." It is a powerful film that does show happy endings. Since "Erasing Family," came out in 2020 (can be found free on YouTube).
Parents started contacting Ginger asking for help. Ginger began transitioning out of filming and has trained with Bill Eddy at the High Conflict Institute and is working with the worse cases of divorce and Parental Alienation. Ginger has dealt with and is helping parents who are suffering through high conflict divorce, trauma and Parental Alienation.
Ginger explains her how her coaching is helping others and offers the advice that it's never too early to get help and changing the communication style with the co-parent is helpful. Ginger also offered how she has reunited parents with their children.
