This week's questions:

Hi Nicky & Mina, I was so excited when you released your podcast. I love hearing you both discuss Serie A. And thank you, Mina, for making me laugh by making fun of my first name-only signature, like Madonna. A question for when travel becomes more normal, what is your favourite Serie A stadium to visit from a neutral perspective?

-Jill (Chronicles Tifosa patreon member, sent via serieachronicles.com)

Hello! I am happy to support your Patreon. Great discussion of the Dybala situation this week. I was wondering, in your opinion, at what point should a club stop paying its players for their talent and start looking at their on field production? I can see paying a 20-23 year old because you believe his talent will grow into a world class player. But at 28, I would be paying a forward for the number of goal contributions rather than for the occasional amazing play. Goals don’t tell the whole story, but Dybala’s last season where he was significantly more productive than Insigne was 2017-2018.

-Michael Byerts (Chronicles Tifoso patreon member)

@serieAchronpod: After watching Inter vs Venezia and how quickly the fans in the stadium went from cheering to whistling and booing, I wanted to get your take on fans in Italy vs. other leagues. Are fans in Italy more fickle and turn on their team more quickly? #ChroniclesQandA

This week's questions:

What is your take on Gosens to Inter Milan and will Perisic extend his contract?

-Eric (Chronicles Tifosi Patreon member)

With current rumours pointing that juve will not sign Nandez, what will Juve lose when not signing him? Was it wrong not to get him in? And what grade will you guys give Juve for their current window?

-Missak Oulikian (Chronicles Tifosi Patreon member)

What do you make of reports of Dybala being keen on a Liverpool move? Seems they are interested in him, and financially these PL clubs can afford him as a luxury signing regardless of injury concerns.

Serie A Chronicles - Napoli Played Like Donkeys in Torino Drubbing
play

01/12/24 • 9 min

Nicky Bandini, Patrick Kendrick and Mina Rzouki discuss a bizarre performance by Napoli after a 3-0 demolition at the hands of Torino, in which they didn't have many complimentary things to say about the Partenopei... and neither did Patrick during his live commentary of the match.

As their season goes from bad to disastrous we wonder... is this the worst title defense of all time?

After perhaps the craziest start to a Serie A Chronicles episode, with doorbells buzzing, a walkout, beauty products and a false start, we get on to the serious stuff...

The disgraceful incident at Udinese v Milan which saw Udinese fans direct racial abuse at Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan. Milan were able to achieve a sort of sporting justice after the temporary suspension of the match, grabbing a late winner via Noah Okafor.

Subscribe to the Chronicles Tifosi Patreon membership to hear the FULL episode 100% AD-FREE, including:

While the snake is away the zebra will play... Juventus leapfrogged Inter to be first on the Serie A ladder while the nerazzurri were over in Riyadh winning the Supercoppa. Should we be surprised that Max Allegri has managed to get his team into this position?

Nicky tells us about her interview with Weston McKennie for 8 By 8 Magazine, talking food crimes among other things.

And is there room for Federico Chiesa in this Juventus lineup?

Daniele De Rossi triumphs in his first hit-out on the Roma bench.

Survival specialist Davide Nicola is back, this time to try to work miracles with lowly Empoli, and started with a win over Monza.

What did we learn from the 4-way Supercoppa tournament in Riyadh and Inter’s crowning for a third time on the bounce?

The death of Italy legend Gigi Riva.

Later this week: Look out for our chat about what comes next for Jose Mourinho.

In this Chronicles Tifosi Patreon members-only episode extended preview:

Mateo Retegui is the latest "Oriundo" to play for Italy, rushed in ahead of Scamacca, Gnonto and other Azzurri strikers, despite only three training sessions and never stepping foot in Italy before.

Is Retegui the right man up front for Italy, and is it fair for an Oriundo to be rushed in ahead of other players who have been brought up in the Italian system?

And, in a wider political and societal context, what does it say about Italy's treatment of its many non-citizens who were born in, raised in, and have lived, studied and worked in Italy for their whole lives, yet still are somehow not considered eligible for Italian citizenship?

Nicky Bandini and Mina Rzouki discuss this interesting and thought-provoking subject.

Serie A Chronicles - Mourinho cornered by Inter

This week it was another Inter triplete, this time with 3 goals against former manager Jose Mourinho as his Roma side offered little resistance to the reigning champions, despite an amazing "tifo" from the Olimpico faithful.

We preview our interview with Venezia and USMNT star Gianluca Busio, who spoke to Mina Rzouki and Nicky Bandini about his time in Serie A so far and Sporting Kansas City previously, his Italian roots and his ambitions for the future. It was a wide-ranging and interesting discussion about life as a young player in Serie A, which will be dropping this Friday. You can catch some great snippets here in the main show.

In another crazy goal-fest of a Serie A weekend that saw Milan go top, Napoli slipped back to third behind both Milan clubs after a narrow loss to Gasperini's brilliant Atalanta side in the match of the round which Nicky described as "so effing good!".

We discuss the injuries plaguing some of the league's top players and clubs, and will Dusan Vlahovic decide to stay in Italy or will the likes of Tottenham or Manchester City capture his signature?

Mina was excited about a Juventus victory and Paulo Dybala being awarded Serie A player of the month, as we round up of the rest of the exciting weekend. And then stick in to the end for a tribute to Italy and Juventus legend Paolo Rossi who left us a year ago this week.

03:00 Napoli v Atalanta

19:05 Gianluca Busio interview preview

24:26 Roma v Inter

49:30 Milan

52:20 Serie A injuries

55:46 Fiorentina and Vlahovic

"Someone, somewhere, grow a backbone and actually stick up for something because this is ridiculous".

In this Chronicles Tifosi Patreon members-only episode preview:

Nicky is outraged at the continuing harassment of fans at the World Cup showing support for LGBT+ people, the faux-woke FIFA President Gianni Infantino and his offensive speech, and the spineless national football associations which easily backed down from wearing the "1Love" captain's armband because of FIFA's threat of issuing yellow cards.

We also discuss the matches so far, particularly England v Iran, USA v Wales and Netherlands v Senegal.

Here, Nicky shares bitter-sweet memories of heartbreak about Italy's World Cup Final loss on penalties to Brazil in the 1994 World Cup, and elation in the moment Italy won the 2006 World Cup Final.

In what is one of our best episodes yet, you will recognise yourself and your own family in their memories of family, heartbreak and celebration, as they describe where they were, who they were with and how they felt at various World Cup moments.
