SelfKind: Conversations in self-care, kindness and compassion for highly sensitive people

Hello friends, and welcome to episode 174 of SelfKind with Erica Webb (that's me!). In this episode we're continuing with our 4-part series all about Somatic Exercise: what is it and how and what does it help?
Missed last week's episode? Head there first (episode 173: Connecting with your Soma)!
In this second episode we're diving deep into the idea of Sensory Motor Amnesia or Movement Blindspots. What are they? Why do they matter? How can we shift them? And why would we even want to?
You'll hear:
> The analogy of the well-worn bush path and why we might sometimes want to explore the (metaphorical) wilderness
> how our brain and body are actually really clever to create these blindspots, but why we might want to consciously regain control of these subconscious movement patterns
> how recognising our physical blindspots can impact our capacity for self-awareness and self-kindness.

Ep 173: Connecting with your Soma (you're the only one who can).

Hello friends, and welcome to episode 173 of SelfKind with Erica Webb (that's me!). In this episode we're kicking off a 4-part series all about Somatic Exercise: what is it and how and what does it help?
In this first episode we're diving deep into uncovering what the 'Soma' in Somatic refers to. It's not the dictionary definition, so give Google a miss on this one! We also talk about the 'how-to' of somatic exercise - Pandiculation - and what it is we're actually attempting to change in the process.
You'll hear:
> What is your soma and why are you the only one who can ever experience it?
> What it means to be the expert of your body
> How embodying your soma can invite you to embrace your humanity and own your experience
> What pandiculation actually is and how it can help us move beyond tension-embedding patterns.

Ep 175: Lessons in kindness from our canine companions with Kylie Marks

Hello and welcome to this episode of SelfKind with me, Erica Webb! In this episode I have the pleasure of chatting with Kylie Marks - an aged care physiotherapist who has turned her skills to supporting our canine companions with mobility and strength as they age (or deal with illness and injury).
In this episode you will hear:
> How kindness to our pets can inform and support kindness toward ourselves
> The importance of giving ourselves grace and patience in caring for our pets, ourselves and our loved ones
> Why it can be so tricky to know if our dogs are in pain, and what we can do to get better at observation
> Why shifting out of an all-or-nothing mindset with movement and exercise for our dogs (and ourselves!) is so important, along with the need for rest
> And so much more.
Even if you're not a dog-parent, this episode is rich with insight. I loved this chat with Kylie - enjoy listening in!
About Kylie:
Kylie is a human physio with a huge heart to help dogs so that they can be pain free and move better.
Kylie has been a physio for over 12 years and aged care is her specialty. After seeing the pain her human patients endure with arthritis and how it can be improved with undertaking a specific exercise program focused on strengthening weak muscles and stretching tight muscles around, or near, the arthritic joint, she started asking some questions, including this one:
Why aren't exercises recommended for dogs with arthritis as they are for humans with arthritis?
Kylie's goal for Strong and Steady Canines is to equip dog parents with the knowledge and skills they need to do simple at home exercises with their dog that can make a significant difference to their dog's well being, whilst at the same time reassuring and empowering the owner that they can do more than giving pills and saving for surgery to help their dog live well.
Connect with Kylie:
Sign up for the in-person event on October 23rd 2022 in Sydney!Visit the Strong and Steady Canines Website and connect with Kylie on Instagram, in her Strong and Steady Canines Community Facebook Group
