Nikisha Riley — Waking Up to Love, from May 2018

A reminiscence of my conversation with Nikisha Riley two years ago. Though Nikisha now lives in Los Angeles with a man she’s deeply in love with, nothing about her honest, powerful, endearing, unapologetic spirit has changed. Where we see carefully curated essays and words placed with ever so delicate care, Nikisha breaks from this with her calls for black folks to be seen and heard and loved, and wholly so. Founder of Folie Apothecary and a holistic education and wellness coach, Nikisha is not interested in trendy wellness fads or fashions, but things that truly make you feel good, make you smile big, make you come back to your center. Holding an MA in education and a bachelors in psychology, Nikisha counts herself as a teen mom who beat the statistics, as a woman of color on a path towards healing anxiety, and as one deeply feeling the journey along the way. She is so vibrantly open and unapologetic about her life and journey. And it’s infectious.
