play

10/12/18 • 25 min

Self Care and The Badassery Lifestyle

During this 10th episode of the Self Care Passport podcast, Janae Fletcher, self-care architect, quiet leader, personal and professional mentor, creator of the Self Care Passport process, and host interviews Samantha Parker and Kathy Rasmussen, Founders and Creators of Badassery Magazine. Janae, Samantha, and Kathy talk about business and how self-care plays an important role in sharing and creating their passion.

Show Notes:

  • Introduction of guest Samantha and Kathy, Founders of Badassery Magazine.
  • What is badassery? Living in Badassery is living true to yourself and helping bring others dreams to life.
  • Kathy and Samantha ́s Book: Badassery Style Community: A Step-by-Step Guide to Planning your Way to an Ultra Engaged community
  • The magazine was originally published in print but that wasn ́t serving them so they moved their magazine onto a new platform, Medium.
  • The new platform makes their articles more searchable.
  • It was a hard decision to switch from print to a digital platform which is a good decision in the long-term to share the message.
  • Digital print allows Badassery to get their message further.
  • It is easy to be passive about self-care and health, but essentially your body is the vessel you can go out and create in the world.
  • Both Badassery women shifted their self-care perspective after going to Chicago to see Tony Robbins.
  • Differentiating between self-medicating (to cover pain) and self-care can be difficult.
  • When differentiating between types of self-care, it helps to understand your desires and motivation.
  • Self-care shows up in their business.
  • Self-care is balance and a process. Being ok with ̈the now ̈ is a process of falling out of it and then coming back in.
  • Samantha and Kathy are leading a trip to Bali in March of 2019
  • There is a leverageable power within unstructured time used for networking, connection, and idea creation
  • Samantha and Kathy put self-care stamps in their passports by being a tourist of their own town and giving themselves permission to shut off and disconnect.

3 Key Points:

  1. When you use self-care, it manifests not only in your life but also in your business.
  2. Differentiating between self-medicating and self-care is important in being effective.
  3. Self-care is a mix of balance and sticking with the process.

Tweetable Quotes:

“Self-care is a balance and a process.” –Janae.

“The message is the important part not how it looks.” –Samantha.

“[Self-care] It is a daily thing but it becomes a little easier when you have the right tools.” –Kathy.

“As we grow as humans, the business grows with us.” –Samantha.

Is anyone really the same these days? We are reevaluating, learning, growing, struggling, contemplating, accepting, resisting, resting, moving forward, mad as hell and more!

Community and Relationships aren’t simple, yet we can bring SIMPLICITY into the mix by tending to what we want and don’t want.

Activation Step: Notice the way you are interacting to support yourself, others and what is important to you. We are stronger in community and relationships when we care for ourselves. Care for ourselves, not comparing ourselves to others.

Affirmation: I only compare myself to myself.

How can you simplify your choices to create space for yourself without out feeling saturated or personally consumed? Time to ponder, pause and live into what you really want. We will be talking about how we consume as a whole, with simplicity by our side. Simplifying always brings up a lot of questions within us to get down to what is important for us to have or not have in our lives.

Simplicity and Saturation comes to mind when considering how we consume, Digitally, Emotionally, Materialistically and Nutritionally.

How can you simplify your choices to create space for yourself without out feeling saturated or personally consumed? Time to ponder, pause and live into what you really want.

Hello and welcome to the Simple, Abundant and Embodied podcast series with micro episodes here for you whenever you need them. Today we will be talking about Abundance and Creativity.

Activation Step: Have you ever have thought about linear thinking versus creative thinking? Seldom is a straight line part of life! Honor that energy. We can have it all through how we approach life, creative thinking helps us in so many ways. It is the sprinkles on top, the lemon twist, the spice of life or that bit of unexpected joy and freedom of thought. This way of being, expands our time, experiences and ultimately our joy.

Reaching out to a new experience creates abundance. Yes, maybe it will not go as you envisioned yet it creates an opennessness for more abundance... another experience or emotion that you hadn’t even thought was possible. Abundance is expansion in so many ways. In the wise words of Brene Brown: There is no innovation and creativity without failure. Period. Brené Brown

Affirmation: You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have. Maya Angelou

Today we will be talking about Simplicity and Creativity.

How can you creatively navigate your choices for your greater personal good, that of your community and our collective humanity? Humanity has had a rough go lately and really, for a long time. Take to heart that small shifts and larger leaps of faith can make the world (in micro and macro ways) a better place; more loving, creative, and joyful. Life can have meaning and be fun.

Activation Step: Pause as you make decisions for yourself. Creative thinking celebrates you and your desired outcomes. Notice if this decision/step feels creatively alive, supporting a greater vision for yourself, adjust as needed.
