Seeking Light Podcast

Seeking Light Podcast

Beth Newell

With all that we go through in life, seeking light can bring us comfort amid storms, heart-ache and frustrations. During a time of deep contemplation, I decided that I might not have control or answers to many of the worlds troubles but I can share light to those who are seeking light. Ultimately, all we can control is ourselves. Through life, the scriptures have brought me answers and insight in troubled water and helped me gain knowledge. Join me as we learn from the scriptures, inspiring quotes, life experiences and books that can brighten you day and life as you seek light.

Seeking Light Podcast - 225. Apples & ONIONS, what's in your lunchbox?
play

03/07/23 • 17 min

While I was in Arizona, I listened to stake conference. A young woman gave a wonderful talk and shared a story about taking something negative in life and turning it around to something positive with an analogy of an apple and onion. I thought a lot about her words and wanted to make a podcast about some of my thoughts about unexpected changes in our lives. Join me today as I share these thoughts. Finding Refuge from the Storms of Life By Elder Ricardo P. Giménez, April 2020 "although our lives may at times be relatively smooth, the time will come for each of us when we will face unexpected challenges and storms that will push the limits of our ability to endure. Physical, mental, family, and employment challenges; natural disasters; and other matters of life or death are but some of the examples of the storms that we will face in this life. When faced with these storms, we often experience feelings of despair or fear. President Russell M. Nelson said, “Faith is the antidote for fear”—faith in our Lord Jesus Christ (“Let Your Faith Show,” Ensign or Liahona, May 2014, 29). As I have seen the storms that affect people’s lives, I have concluded that no matter what kind of storm is battering us—regardless of whether there is a solution to it or whether there is an end in sight—there is only one refuge, and it is the same for all types of storms. This single refuge provided by our Heavenly Father is our Lord Jesus Christ and His Atonement. None of us are exempt from facing these storms.” bethnewellcoaching.com [email protected]

Join me today as I am joined by my dear friends Barbara & Gary McFarland who have served for 6 years as the service missionaries for the Addiction Recovery Program. What is the Addiction Recovery Program? At https://addictionrecovery.churchofjesuschrist.org it says: Addiction Recovery Program A Guide to Addiction Recovery and Healing Prepared by Family Services Published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake City, Utah Family Services Addiction Recovery Program has adapted the original Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous World Services, Inc. into a framework of the doctrines, principles, and beliefs of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The original Twelve Steps are listed below, and the Twelve Steps as used in this program appear on page iv. The Twelve Steps are reprinted and adapted with permission of Alcoholics Anonymous World Services, Inc. (A.A.W.S.) Permission to reprint and adapt the Twelve Steps does not mean that A.A.W.S. has reviewed or approved the contents of this publication, or that A.A.W.S. necessarily agrees with the views expressed herein. A.A. is a program of recovery from alcoholism only—use of the Twelve Steps in connection with programs and activities which are patterned after A.A., but which address other problems, or in any other non-A.A. context, does not imply otherwise. Additionally, while A.A. is a spiritual program, A.A. is not a religious program. Thus, A.A. is not affiliated or allied with any sect, denomination, or specific religious belief. The Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous 1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol—that our lives had become unmanageable. 2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. 3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him. 4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. 5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs. 6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character. 7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings. 8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all. 9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. 10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it. 11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out. 12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs." "Expect MIRACLES" Doug and Tamra planned to celebrate their 31st wedding anniversary but both had been sick with covid. Doug's sickness had not been getting better. He went to their local community hospital in Burns Oregon. After a look at his lungs, the doctor wanted to send Doug to Bend which is 2 hours from Burns. He was taken by air flight to Bend's St. Charles hospital. Doug tried to recover in progressive care but things took a turn for the worse and Doug had to be placed on a ventilator in the ICU. Doug had spiritual experiences during this time that gave him the desire and fight to stay alive. While in the hospital, Doug had a stroke that caused paralysis on the left size of his body. The doctors also found a hole in Doug's heart. After 1 month of being apart and not knowing if Doug was going to live, Tamra was able to reunite with Doug and encourage him to keep fighting and never give up. Doug set a goal to return home before Thanksgiving 2021. Join me today as Doug and Tamra share their incredible story of faith, miracles, hope and overcoming tribulation. "It ain’t about how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done" - Rocky Balboa “You’re gonna have to go through hell, worse than any nightmare you’ve ever dreamed. But when it’s over, I know you’ll be the one standing. You know what you have to do. Do it.” – Rocky Balboa “Remember, the mind is your best muscle. Big arms can move rocks, but big words can move mountains.” – Rocky Balboa “You can take him okay, it’s all heart, you understand. It ain’t all muscle, it’s all heart. Heart and fire, heart and fire, Okay!” – Rocky Balboa www.bethnewellcoaching.com [email protected]

"The intuitive mind is a sacred gift, and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift" - Albert Einstein Last Fall, my daughter Bailey took a human development class at BYU-I from a teacher that she couldn't stop talking about, Sister Lawrence. Bailey would call me regularly sharing the information that she had gained from this incredible class. I ended up meeting Liza in December 2022 and immediately understood Bailey's gratitude for Liza. Liza is a friend, educator and pod-caster. She is a woman of faith and love. Early in her life she always felt very connected to spiritual matters. 16 years ago she was struggling with getting pregnant. She talked to someone who encouraged her to see a doctor who practiced more natural modalities to conceive. Her desire was to get to the root cause and not put a bandaid over it. This experience opened Liza's mind to other ways to heal the human body and mind. She began searching and praying for help to heal and extend her knowledge to her loved ones. Liza started a podcast called Wonders and Miracles in Aug 2018. Join me today as Liza shares her love of healing modalities and the wonders she has experienced in her life. "Everything is energy and that's all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is Physics." - Albert Einstein To contact Liza email: [email protected] bethnewellcoaching.com [email protected]

Seeking Light Podcast - 117. The BOOK of MORMON & OUR Constitution
play

02/22/22 • 19 min

As I was pondering life and trying to seek light I had a thought that came to me about 4th NEPHI and our Constitution. Join me today as I share some thoughts and insights about how the Book of Mormon is the road map for our day and our "morning newspaper" into our world. President Hinckley: “The Book of Mormon narrative is a chronicle of nations long since gone. But in its descriptions of the problems of today’s society, it is as current as the morning newspaper and much more definitive, inspired, and inspiring concerning the solutions of those problems. I know of no other writing which sets forth with such clarity the tragic consequences to societies that follow courses contrary to the commandments of God. Its pages trace the stories of two distinct civilizations that flourished on the Western Hemisphere. Each began as a small nation, its people walking in the fear of the Lord. But with prosperity came growing evils. The people succumbed to the wiles of ambitious and scheming leaders who oppressed them with burdensome taxes, who lulled them with hollow promises, who countenanced and even encouraged loose and lascivious living. These evil schemers led the people into terrible wars that resulted in the death of millions and the final and total extinction of two great civilizations in two different eras. No other written testament so clearly illustrates the fact that when men and nations walk in the fear of God and in obedience to His commandments, they prosper and grow, but when they disregard Him and His word, there comes a decay that, unless arrested by righteousness, leads to impotence and death. The Book of Mormon is an affirmation of the Old Testament proverb: “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34). The God of heaven spoke to these people of the Americas through prophets, telling them where true security could be found: “Behold, this is a choice land, and whatsoever nation shall possess it shall be free from bondage, and from captivity, and from all other nations under heaven, if they will but serve the God of the land, who is Jesus Christ” (Ether 2:12).” ( Source: “A Testimony Vibrant and True”, Ensign, August 2005 ) bethnewellcoaching.com [email protected]

Quotes have been such a gift to me in my life. I have drawn upon them over and over in my life. Join me today as I share 5 quotes that have affected my life lately. 1. “A warrior is not a person that carries a gun. The biggest war you ever go through is right between your own ears. It’s in your mind. We’re all going through a war in our mind, and we have to callus our mind to fight that war and to win that war.” - David Goggins 2. “You turn your FOCUS, GOD, will change your heart” Abinadi: 3. “Large fires can start from a single spark.” 4. “Rather than adding more years to your life, add more life to your years” 5. "Curb yourself: C: Don’t give COMMENTARY O: Don’t give your OPINION A: Don’t give ADVICE" [email protected]

“Miracles are a part of the gospel of Jesus Christ. If miracles cease it is because faith has ceased.” God knows each of us. He loves us! He know our pains, sorrows, joys, worries, discouragements. We’re never alone!! Bailey shared this to us last night while reading scriptures, “Sometimes our own personal conversion doesn’t happen in the sacred grove but rather our own personal Liberty jail.”

God accomplishes his work through small things. While reading my scriptures, I was reminded of this very truth. Join me today as I share some thoughts about small groups. Alma 37: 6 Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise. 7 And the Lord God doth work by means to bring about his great and eternal purposes; and by very small means the Lord doth confound the wise and bringeth about the salvation of many souls.

After 3 1/2 years of recording my podcast, it is time to close the chapter of this book in my life and opened another chapter. With much thought and prayer I’m recording my final podcast today. There are so many things that I have learned from doing this podcast. I have met some incredible people and listen to their amazing stories. I have been able to record prompting and inspiration I received while reading the scriptures and living life through different experiences. Thank you so much for supporting me through this incredible journey! Moroni 9:6 “And now, my beloved son, notwithstanding their hardness, let us labor diligently; for if we should cease to labor, we should be brought under condemnation; for we have a labor to perform whilst in this tabernacle of clay, that we may conquer the enemy of all righteousness, and rest our souls in the kingdom of God.” Moroni 9: 25 My son, be faithful in Christ; and may not the things which I have written grieve thee, to weigh thee down unto death; but may Christ lift thee up, and may his sufferings and death, and the showing his body unto our fathers, and his mercy and long-suffering, and the hope of his glory and of eternal life, rest in your mind forever. 26 And may the grace of God the Father, whose throne is high in the heavens, and our Lord Jesus Christ, who sitteth on the right hand of his power, until all things shall become subject unto him, be, and abide with you forever. Amen.”
