According to the Book of Exodus, "Thou shalt not covet"... Wise words that were disregarded by the subjects in this week's episode.

We head back to the early 90's once again, this time, to London, as we explore what happens when jealousy clouds judgment...

We left part one in February 2019, just after Shamima Begum had been discovered by a British journalist in a refugee camp in Syria.

News of the discovery of one of the 'Isis 4' shocked the nation and spread like wildfire. And soon, journalists were queuing up to interview her.

What unfolded over the following months and years divided public opinion and reached the upper echelons of British government, as they strived to solve the question on everybody's lips: 'How do you solve a problem lime Shamima Begum?'.

Seeing Red A True Crime Podcast - Case Reopened: The Assassination of Kim Jong-nam
play

08/30/23 • 64 min

We're on our end of season 9 break right now, back with our season 10 premier on 13 September.
To fill the gap, we've delved into our archives to bring you an episode that has resonated with us for one reason or another.
This week it's Mark's turn. Before he plays the episode, he talks you through why he's dug this particular episode out and why he was inspired to cover it.
ORIGINAL SYNOPSIS:
This week, we take a deep dive into the life and death of Kim Jong-nam, the brother of North Korean dictator and all round nut job Kim Jong-un.
Following an ill-feted trip to Disneyland in 2001, Jong-nam was ostracised from the family and exiled to Macau. Here, he led a relatively normal life, going about his business under a false name, passing information to the CIA, while occasionally speaking out against his brother's authoritarian rule over North Korea.
But the clock was always ticking on Kim Jong-nam's life and in 2017, as he arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport to fly home to his wife and kids, he was executed in front of dozens of passengers.
Join us as we shine a light on North Korea and take you, in real-time, to the very public assassination of Kim Jong-nam.
This case has been inspired by 'Assassins' - a true crime documentary which is available in virtual cinemas and on demand now. For further information, head to www.assassins-film.co.uk.

It's great to be back and it's great to have you back with us. Thanks for your continued support.
Our season 10 opener sees us head back to 2012 and to the port city of Southampton, as we dive head first into the mob killing of 22-year-old Jamie Dack.
Jamie had recently gone through a relationship break up, something many of us can empathise with. He was vulnerable and in need of support, and he thought he had found that support in the shape of four friends... But, unbeknown to Jamie, they had far more sinister motives for befriending him... What follows is gruesome and barbaric and will shock you to the core.

09/20/23 • 78 min

This week we head across the Atlantic to Chicago, as we explore the Jussie Smollett Hate Crime Hoax of 2019.
In early 2019, Jussie Smollett was half way through filming the fifth season of the hit show Empire when he was savagely assaulted in a racist and homophobic attack while walking home from Subway in the early hours of the morning. What followed led to widespread condemnation and important debate at what was a politically sensitive time for the USA. But the condemnation and debate was based on hollow foundations, for Jussie had made the whole thing up. And it wouldn't take long for his tall tales to catch up with him...

We are BACK for our season 7 premier!
After covering some truly harrowing cases towards the end of season 6, we thought we would start season 7, and the new year, on a slightly lighter note, with a case that features limited violence - yes, you heard that right!
This week, Bethan tells us about an audacious art heist, during which 13 priceless paintings and art type things(!) were stolen from a magnificent gallery in Boston in 1991.
Continuing the theme next week, Mark will be telling us about a gang of criminals who targeted the homes of the rich and famous in Knightsbridge and Kensington, stealing £26million worth of cash and jewels.
The week after that... well, I am sure normal business will resume with our usual murder and mayhem.
Our show sponsor this week is www.stitchfix.co.uk/red - the online personal styling service for men and women. Do check them out!
If you would like to support us and keep the show alive, and check out our bonus content too, then head to www.patreon.com/seeingredpodcast - we have a LOT of plans for Patreon this year and will be announcing all the exciting details later this month.
Our theme music was arranged and composed by friend of the show, Holly-Jane Shears - she is incredibly talented - check out her amazing work at www.soundcloud.com/DeadDogInBlackBag
