Secondhand Talent: The Podcast

Welcome to Season One, Episode Three of "Secondhand Talent: The Podcast"!!! Oh man, talk about growing pains... Ducky & Steiner got own'd by the learning curve of podcasting and remaining on schedule during an already high-stress week that includes two holidays. Which two? Why, Bicycle Day (4/19 - TODAY!), of course, and 4/20 (we won't insult your intelligence)! In this episode, we discuss what it's like to be on the road, Steiner's wildly mild journey to Fargo, ND, with The Coop, the importance of locally-owned small venues and how they contribute as Secondhand Talent... or do they?
We want to give a special shout out to Martyrs here in Chicago, a staple of the Chicago entertainment scene and one of the great launching pads for Secondhand Talent. They got broken into a couple of weeks ago, which is terrible - please support them by going to see a show at an historic and absolutely wonderful venue, from the door to the floor!
We also want to send our deepest condolences to the Lotus fans, but especially to the Garvey family and the band for the loss of Charley and Chuck Morris. Ducky and Steiner knew Chuck and looked up to him as a master of his craft, and the world was better when he was keeping the beat. You can get some great art and donate to the Morris family by picking up this sweet poster at Conscious Alliance here --https://consciousalliance.org/products/chuck-charley-morris-tribute-2023
CA transforms $1 from each additional donation into 2 meals for whose who need it most. If you can, please support the Morris family and this wonderful charity.
With "Secondhand Talent", we want to devote a platform to taking moments to shine the spotlight on those that manage the spotlights. We want to use this platform to highlight some of our incredible colleagues in the industry whose names you might otherwise never hear. Thank you for joining us - come along, stay a while!

Welcome to Season 1, Episode 4 of "Secondhand Talent: The Podcast"! We've recovered from 4/20 and are raring to go with a brand new interview episode!
This week, we have the distinct pleasure of interviewing Mike Lehtinen, an apprenticing luthier, live entertainment jack-of-all-trades, and the main merch man for the Chicago-based band and friend of the program, Mungion - follow them on YouTube, Bandcamp, IG, and wherever else you can find them!
In a quintessentially classic example of the power of music, Mike, Ducky & Steiner all became acquainted because of Mungion. In the interview, Mike and the boys talk about the genesis their friendship, Mike talks Mungion, being "that guy" at shows both with a home-field advantage as well as on the road, how he got into guitar-making and his luthier apprenticeship, and, of course, what "Secondhand Talent" means to him.
Please check out Ian Schneller's Chicago School of Guitar Making (www.specimenproducts.com), a wonderful school whose mission is to provide a solid foundation upon which students from all over the world can commence their luthiery studies, with lectures, demonstrations and hands-on work. Since its debut in 2005, thousands of students have taken classes at the school. The number of new Specimens quickly grew and now Ian has made more than 800 instruments, amps and horn speakers all by hand in his Chicago workshop. 2023 marks Specimen’s 37th anniversary!
