In the first part of the interview, Justin & Steiner discuss the beginnings of Justin's career, how he wound up in Seattle at the right time, and from whence come the origins of "Visual Feast", his upcoming already-iconic career retrospective book.
We can't wait for you to listen to this FOUR-PART, sprawling, multi-layered, meaningful and insightful conversation and, of course, what "Secondhand Talent" means. It's a special interview already in the Secondhand Talent canon and we can't wait for y'all to see it!
Justin Hampton is a renowned artist known for powerful and resonant artwork since 1990. He emerged as a freelance illustrator in Seattle under Art Chantry's direction at The Rocket, a pivotal magazine during the Grunge era. With bold line work, sublime colors, and a vivid imagination, Hampton's unmistakable style has gained international attention. His work appears globally in galleries, clubs, and homes. Notably, he is featured in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the documentary "American Artifact" and in Seattle's MoPOP. Hampton has designed posters for Queens of the Stone Age, Metallica, NIN, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, and more. His art has also appeared in TV shows and films. Hampton's diverse clientele includes Rolling Stone, Lollapalooza, Dreamworks, and others. He is also acclaimed for his comic books and animated short film.
His artwork has also made appearances in television shows and films, including "24" and "The Hot Chick," and was featured in the TBS sitcom "My Boys," where his work was exhibited in a fictional Chicago exhibition. Director Todd Phillips even commissioned Hampton to design a poster for the cast and crew of his record-breaking rated R comedy film, "The Hangover." Throughout his career, Hampton has collaborated with a wide range of clients, including Rolling Stone, Guitar World, Lollapalooza, and Dreamworks, among many others. In addition to his visual art, Hampton's comic books "Twitch" and "Rat" have received acclaim, and his animated short film "The Jaded Monk" was showcased at the Seattle International Film Festival and the One Reel Festival in 2002 and 2003, respectively. Currently residing in Portland, Hampton continues to captivate audiences worldwide.

Ryan is a New Hampshire native who currently resides in Portland, OR. His poster art has become a mainstay in the world of Rock poster art and beyond. He has worked with many of today's promoters and up and coming bands as well as a host of concert venues, festivals and alternative businesses. His use of color and his immediately recognizable style are as free and loose as the music it has been created for. "My first love in art was the old psychedelic rock posters, and to actually be doing that now is a dream come true. I listen to the band as I'm creating the images, and just let the feeling of the music come through in the colors and design."
In the second part of the interview, we talk about Ryan's humble beginnings and intro to the art world and transitioning to part of the fabric of the rock poster scene. And, of course, we delve into the meaning of Secondhand Talent. We can't wait for you to listen to this multi-layered, meaningful and insightful conversation and, of course, what "Secondhand Talent" means. It's a special interview already in the Secondhand Talent canon and we can't wait for y'all to see it!

In the second part of the interview, Justin & Steiner discuss the incredibly dynamic & gone-too-soon artistic powerhouse that was (and is, and forever will be) - Frank Kozik. In the second installment of our FOUR-PART series, Justin talks about Frank’s impact on his career, the formation of the power trio that is Post-Neo Explosionism (comprised of Justin and fellow rock-poster troubadours Emek & Jermaine Rogers) & how Todd Phillips reached out to him to do a poster for “The Hangover”!
