Second Chance - £32 Million Drug Import Conspiracy – Leiona Townsend

£32 Million Drug Import Conspiracy – Leiona Townsend

05/02/23 • 80 min

Second Chance

Our guest this week on Second Chance is Leiona Townsend, whose vibrant personality shines through as she shares her experiences with us. Leiona provides her unique perspective on the Heathrow Drug gang scandal, in which baggage handlers smuggled £32 million worth of cocaine into the UK. It's clear that her past does not define her, and she is now an advocate for helping those in prison today.

Leiona has been incarcerated in half of the women's prisons in the UK, and she gives us a true insight into what it's really like behind a 'Bad Girl' image. Her story highlights the urgent need for reform in the way we approach women's prisons, both in the UK and globally. The basic needs of female prisoners are not being met, and the psychological effects are devastating. As part of my foundation work, we are currently researching 'Women in Prison', so please reach out if you would like to help us make a difference.

Leiona's story is truly captivating, and she encourages women to speak up and share their experiences. She is leading the way to help change the silence and fear of speaking out. Thank you, Leiona, for sharing your life and words with us.

Tom's journey to success has been far from easy. Despite experiencing a career-ending injury that left him with a broken back, he persevered and fought back to the sport he loves. He has since shared his passion for Motorsport with the world through his exceptional broadcasting and commentating skills.

His injury has given him a unique perspective on the psychological challenges that drivers face. He has witnessed the injuries and deaths of his friends in the sport, making him acutely aware of the risks and consequences of speed and thrill-seeking.

Tom openly shares his moments of fear and panic when things don't go as planned, allowing us all to relate to the chaos and calmness of life. By trading his steering wheel for a microphone, he found a new passion and was able to rediscover the joy of living.

Tom is also an Ambassador for Divert London, a program that provides early intervention for young people in the criminal justice system, helping connect them with employment and training opportunities. Kevin Lane has been called a gangster, a hitman, and a killer. He was given a life sentence for a hitman murder committed in 1994. He spent 20 years in prison.

He has always claimed that he was not the perpetrator of the crime, but his conviction has never been reversed. In his book 'Fitted Up and Fighting Back,' he documents his case and continues to protest innocence.

In this interview, he speaks openly about his experience working for the criminal underworld and the violent life he led inside some of the UK's most dangerous prisons.
