£32 Million Drug Import Conspiracy – Leiona Townsend
05/02/23 • 80 min
Our guest this week on Second Chance is Leiona Townsend, whose vibrant personality shines through as she shares her experiences with us. Leiona provides her unique perspective on the Heathrow Drug gang scandal, in which baggage handlers smuggled £32 million worth of cocaine into the UK. It's clear that her past does not define her, and she is now an advocate for helping those in prison today.
Leiona has been incarcerated in half of the women's prisons in the UK, and she gives us a true insight into what it's really like behind a 'Bad Girl' image. Her story highlights the urgent need for reform in the way we approach women's prisons, both in the UK and globally. The basic needs of female prisoners are not being met, and the psychological effects are devastating. As part of my foundation work, we are currently researching 'Women in Prison', so please reach out if you would like to help us make a difference.
Leiona's story is truly captivating, and she encourages women to speak up and share their experiences. She is leading the way to help change the silence and fear of speaking out. Thank you, Leiona, for sharing your life and words with us.
