SCALE UP

My guest this week is Sagar Khatri, co-Founder & CEO of Multiplier, a leading global workforce management platform that makes it easy for companies to employ teams internationally. Recently featured in Forbes 30 under 30 list, Sagar’s journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. Emerging from humble beginnings in India, he has consistently pursued a singular mission in life: to create something impactful and meaningful, to make the world a better place for everyone. Graduated from the top engineering university in India - Indian Institute of Technology, Sagar began his career at the prestigious investment bank Nomura, where he provided counsel to numerous companies across the Asia-Pacific region. A fortunate encounter with a Sequoia Capital investor marked the beginning of his entrepreneurial journey, initially with Hmlet before embarking on his own venture.

Sagar's motivation for founding Multiplier stemmed from his personal experiences with the challenges and complexities of international expansion he experienced firsthand at Hmlet. He sought to alleviate the very pains he had once endured, ultimately making business expansion across borders significantly more accessible.

In this interview, we delve deep into Sagar's inspiring personal journey and uncover the secret ingredients of his success. Sagar generously shares his invaluable insights on scaling a business, along with the unique people and cultural practices he has pioneered and implemented within his company. Finally, he imparts insightful tips for fellow founders on navigating the current uncertain climate, striking a balance between taking risks and making bets.

“A good founder prioritizes taking calculated risks while ensuring a sound balance sheet. ” Subscribe to the FREE newsletter for detailed write-ups of the interview!

SCALE UP- September Recap 2023

I hope you have enjoyed sipping some pumpkin spice latte during this #backtoschool season. But learning never stops after you graduate. Hopefully you also picked up a few lessons from watching/listening to this month’s SCALE UP!

I am incredibly honored to have 3 CEO & founders coming to the show this month, In case you haven’t noticed, this months’ scaling lesson is all about AUTHENTICITY. From resisting to fully embracing and leveraging her unique identity as a first generation Asian female leader, Christine Tao broke barriers from those traditional male-dominant management norms, to lead through authenticity and vulnerability.

Adam Gordon opened up so bravely about his childhood traumas, suffering from ADHD and the sense of abandonment growing up. These struggles fueled his relentless, entrepreneurial drive to prove the world wrong. By sharing his most vulnerable self, Adam touched the hearts of many investors, users, and listeners with his inspiring story.

Lastly, we have Daniel J West, who candidly reflects on his learning now being CEO first-hand, of not being patient enough with the business leaders at the time as an HR partner.

Reed Hastings said, "you have no hope if you are not being authentic." But the very first step is to embrace and acknowledge that you are who you are. You can be great at certain things, you will also struggle at others. But people respond to every part of you if you let them, but also the pain, struggles, blood -and-tears you've endured, because that is what makes you whole.

Huge thanks to this month's special guest, François Picard, sharing his hard-earned product scaling lesson on "invent and simplify". Next month, we are returning back to Asia with exciting discussions around DEI, remote-working and sounding advice for our #genz audience who might be disheartened with the challenging graduate job markets.
