RV Canucks - RV Life, One Weekend at a Time!

After we mentioned boondocking in our episode on the five best travel apps, Melina received a text from a friend asking what boondocking was. Turns out, after talking to some of our other RV Newbie friends, our friend wasn't alone! Fast forward to this week, and we've adjusted our podcast schedule to bring you the answer!
Essentially, boondocking with your RV or travel trailer is staying somewhere outside a traditional campground where you don't have fresh water, sewer or power connections. Boondocking for us, is a safe night's sleep on our way to our other camping destinations!
In this episode we cover (and use the chapter markers in the episode navigation bar if you want to skip to a particular section):

  • What boondocking is [0:59]
  • The difference between RV boondocking, dry camping and dispersed camping [1:35]
  • Why, when, and where to boondock [3:43]
  • Boondocking etiquette (if you only listen to one section - let this be it!) [5:57]
  • And we round out the episode with a review of our recent stay at Bronte Creek Provincial Park in Oakville, Ontario Canada [11:37]

Mentioned in this link:
How to find Crown Land Camping in Ontario, visit the Crown Land Policy Atlas
Camping on public lands in the USA, visit the Bureau of Land Management
For our review on Bronte Creek Provincial Park and links to activities, events and bookings, visit our Bronte Creek trip guide

The 5 Best Road Trip Planning Apps | RV Canucks Episode 3

On today's episode, we're talking about the five most essential websites or apps for taking a road trip. And it all starts with hauling our current trailer 3000 kilometers round trip to chase a solar eclipse. (Which was just a good excuse for a road trip and a chance to hit the road.)
It was the first time we've taken our 29' trailer and the girls on a really big trip and it was really I think a dry run for bigger things to come. We talk our five favourite apps:

  1. Roadtrippers
  2. Pilot/Flying J
  3. RV Parky
  4. Google Satelite View
  5. Allstays Camp & RV

We also talk about some of the best places we've had an overnight at:

Finally, we answer our FIRST listener question about Bike Racks for RVs and Trailers!

Listener Questions Answered (Part 1): Solar Power, Leveling Your RV and Tank Treatment Review | RV Canucks Podcast Episode 5

Note: in this episode we address levelling your rig in an RV that doesn’t have auto-levelling jacks - if you do - you CAN use those to help level your trailer, but if you don’t - your stabilizing jacks are for stabilizing only! Do not try to level your trailer with them!
If you have auto-leveling jacks (you lucky thing) your wheels should remain on the ground while levelled - if they aren’t then you’ll need to recalibrate the system according to manufacturer’s directions.
This episode is all about answering your listener questions, and hopefully the first of many! We also dive into the long-awaited review of Happy Campers Tank Treatment, which we spoke about on Episode 2: Black Water Tank Maintenance. And, Happy Campers literally saved our lives, not because it's a good product (spoiler-alert - it is) but because we are all still alive to tell you about it - so stay tuned to the end of the episode for that story and our comprehensive tank treatment review. Here's what we'll be answering today:

  • Deciding between solar power and a generator for your RV
  • How to correctly level your RV
  • Melina's top stress-relieving RV Tip
  • How we almost died
  • Our review of Happy Campers Tank Treatment

As always, you can use the chapter markers in each episode to skip to the content you want, or listen to the whole shebang! We always deliver in less than 30 minutes so you can learn about RVing in the midst of your busy lives.
