Ontario Trip Guides: Bronte Creek Provincial Park | Ep 34
RV Canucks - RV Life, One Weekend at a Time!
06/23/21 • 12 min
Located in the heart of the GTA, Bronte Creek Provincial Park is located on the western border of Oakville, Ontario, bordering the nearby city of Burlington. This 6.4 square-kilometre park packs a punch in terms of amenities including a children’s farm, turn of the century house/museum with costumed interpreters, over 10km in woodland and ravine hiking trails and one of Canada’s biggest pools. There is an abundance of scheduled programming (though some are interrupted in 2020, due to covid-19) but Bronte Creek Provincial Park remains an oasis in the city as well as the perfect home base when visiting Toronto or Niagara Falls both within an easy hour by car.

The 5 Most Haunted Places We Have Ever Camped | RV Canucks Episode 12
RV Canucks - RV Life, One Weekend at a Time!
10/21/20 • 31 min
Because we’re feeling the chill of fall and getting close to Halloween, we’re detailing four of the most haunted places we’ve ever camped, and stay tuned to the end of the show when I share a bonus story about which island in Ontario we refuse to go back to...it’s not a camping story, but it is a travel story and a weird one at that...
Sadly, this week Dan is away on business so you’re stuck with me regaling you with all of the ghostly places we have stayed.
I actually wanted this to be episode 13 next week for obvious reasons, but I guess, if you include our Podcast trailer this technically IS the 13th episode, even if it doesn’t say so on the description – so I guess it’s kind of like in the elevators of high rises and old hotels where there’s no button for the 13th floor.
Be sure to check out our show notes on the episode web page for full details on the show and pictures from each park.

The Basics of Boondocking With Your RV | RV Canucks Episode 4
RV Canucks - RV Life, One Weekend at a Time!
08/26/20 • 20 min
After we mentioned boondocking in our episode on the five best travel apps, Melina received a text from a friend asking what boondocking was. Turns out, after talking to some of our other RV Newbie friends, our friend wasn't alone! Fast forward to this week, and we've adjusted our podcast schedule to bring you the answer!
Essentially, boondocking with your RV or travel trailer is staying somewhere outside a traditional campground where you don't have fresh water, sewer or power connections. Boondocking for us, is a safe night's sleep on our way to our other camping destinations!
In this episode we cover (and use the chapter markers in the episode navigation bar if you want to skip to a particular section):
- What boondocking is [0:59]
- The difference between RV boondocking, dry camping and dispersed camping [1:35]
- Why, when, and where to boondock [3:43]
- Boondocking etiquette (if you only listen to one section - let this be it!) [5:57]
- And we round out the episode with a review of our recent stay at Bronte Creek Provincial Park in Oakville, Ontario Canada [11:37]

Camping on public lands in the USA, visit the Bureau of Land Management

The 5 Best Road Trip Planning Apps | RV Canucks Episode 3
RV Canucks - RV Life, One Weekend at a Time!
08/19/20 • 21 min
On today's episode, we're talking about the five most essential websites or apps for taking a road trip. And it all starts with hauling our current trailer 3000 kilometers round trip to chase a solar eclipse. (Which was just a good excuse for a road trip and a chance to hit the road.)
It was the first time we've taken our 29' trailer and the girls on a really big trip and it was really I think a dry run for bigger things to come. We talk our five favourite apps:
- Roadtrippers
- Pilot/Flying J
- RV Parky
- Google Satelite View
- Allstays Camp & RV
We also talk about some of the best places we've had an overnight at:
- RV Express 66 RV Park in Marshfield, MO
- Enchanted Trails RV Park in Albuquerque, NM
- And of course, that famous park that has golf-cart pizza delivery - Ocean Lakes Family Campground in Myrtle Beach, SC
Finally, we answer our FIRST listener question about Bike Racks for RVs and Trailers!

Visiting the KOA Niagara Falls | Ep. 27
RV Canucks - RV Life, One Weekend at a Time!
03/17/21 • 18 min
Today we’re diving into a park review which will hopefully be of interest to both our Canadian and American listeners – because we’re reviewing the KOA Holiday Niagara Falls in - you guessed it – Niagara Falls Canada!
Since landing a reservation at State, National and Provincial Parks is proving very difficult this year with increased demand for camping, we thought we should review some private parks that have proven to exceed our expectations both as base camps for day exploring, and as places to stay in their own right.
If you are interested in trying to land a reservation at an Ontario Park this year, Melina created a short YouTube Video to give you the best chance. Go check it out.
And, be sure to check out Episode 11 of the podcast where we review the difference between campgrounds and RV resorts and let you know our opinion on whether the latter is worth the extra fees.

Back Country Camping with Kids: How to Keep them Well-Fed and Wild | Ep 35
RV Canucks - RV Life, One Weekend at a Time!
07/07/21 • 46 min
Today, we're joined by Terri Ney to talk about Nutrition, how to pack light when it comes to food, and the wild world of trekking the backwoods with small kids.
Terri is a registered dietitian and nutrition educator with nearly 15 years of experience working for interdisciplinary health teams. Terri was drawn to pediatrics early as she understood this as an opportunity to foster lasting and healthy relationships and habits with food in the next generation. Because of this, she founded Tiny Bites Nutrition in 2018 a nutrition consultancy with the aim of providing parents with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to meet their family goals, wherever they are at with whatever barriers they may face.
In 2018, Terri also decided to begin her passion as a backcountry camper, going solo with her then 8 year-old, learning as she went. Since then she's wrangled her entire family of 5 into the adventure and you'll hear all about it on today's show, as well as how she provides nutrition to keep everyone fueled in the backwoods. This is a different kind of camping for us, so we're THRILLED to have Terri join us with her expertise.

All About Trailer Renovations with Revolution Trailer Uplifting
RV Canucks - RV Life, One Weekend at a Time!
09/01/21 • 17 min
today is episode 39, and we have a pretty exciting interview for you with Revolution Trailer Uplifting in Winnipeg MB, who we met and fell in love with on Instagram, and asked if we could interview them for the show. Lucky for us, they agreed and Fiona and I got to fill our little HGTV-obsessed hearts full. If you’ve ever even thought about casting the beiges and browns of your rig aside and renovating your trailer to a more relaxing esthetic (a la RV Fixer Upper – if you know, you know) – this is the Canadian place to do it.
On our way West, we stopped by to tour the Revolution Studio, and chat with Meghan who coordinates nearly every aspect of the process with clients and we were thrilled to see how the work gets done and learn a little more about the process in general.
