Maintaining Patience in Running and Fitness After 40- How a Former Competitive Mountain Biker and Runner Approaches Health and Wellness with Cycling, Running, and Skiing
Running After Age 4001/19/22 • 32 min
Sarah Kennedy has pretty much run her entire life! In fact, during graduate school, she would run for multiple hours just because she could. Sarah thrived as a competitive mountain biker and even challenged herself by completing an Ironman Triathlon.
As Sarah continued running in her 40s, she started struggling with slower running times and found it really hard on her ego. She also endured knee arthroscopic surgery and came to the realization that she would need to change her training regimen.
Listen in as Sarah motivates us all and discusses:
- Staying fit as a working mom and former professional athlete
- How she changes up her exercise year-round from running, cycling, skiing, and mountain biking
- Why she altered her approach and saw tremendous benefits from a run-walk program and more interval training
- What motivates her and gets her out of bed even on the coldest, darkest morning (spoiler alert, she doesn't just jump out of bed!)
- What tools and gear she loves for recovery (she swears by Oofas sandals and Hoka running shoes)
Sarah reminds us all to keep experimenting with our training, keep moving, and keep being encouraged with running after age 40. This is truly a must-listen episode if you are an endurance athlete in your 40s and beyond.
