Currencies might be more than you think! While we often think of money as a currency in a game, things like items, spells, even HP can be considered currency and the way we incorporatre them into our ttrpgs will have a big impact on the tone, style and play of a system and a game session. Today i am joined be Richard, a seasoned game designer to talk about currency in games.

If you liked Richard's insights (who am I kidding, of course you did) you can find him on twitter at @SprintingOwl. You can also take a look at Richard's games here: https://kumada1.itch.io/ or look for Richard Kelly at drivethroughRPG (use the affiliate link below!)

Sexism has unfortunately been baked into the history of tabletop roleplaying games. Join Lyssa and Shardae (of the Slovenly Trulls podcast) as we discuss:

How sexism has and continues to present itself in the source material of DnD & other TTRPGs

How sexism might present itself at your table

Tools and strategies you can implement in your gaming practice to tackle your unconscious bias.

It's a TRAP!

PART 1:

A free form discussion about using Traps as a Game Master and how we make them interesting and avoid some of the pitfalls that comes with them. This discussion is inspired by questions that was provided to us on twitter, and we answer in a free form, podcast style.

We touch on:

1) What to do if the party faces a dungeon full of traps, but does not have a thief-type character?

2) How to avoid the game from halting, because of the many rolls players ask to make when exploring areas with potential traps?

3) Should traps be just damage/no damage and what else can they be?

4) How to give purpose to your traps, so they don't feel pointless?

PART 2:

Are your traps boring? Want to do more with you traps in your next #DnD or #TTRPG session? In this episode, we give you 7 tips on how to make traps fun and meaningful in your game.

The 7 things to consider are:

1) Integration of traps with other elements

2) Why is the trap there? Give it purpose

3) Variability of skill and diversity of challenge

4) How was it built? Give it lore/history

5) Puzzly traps - Easy to find, but hard to deal with

6) Frontload information - Bringing tension to every check

7) Make traps more than straight up damage - Alarm, environment change, conditions and more....

One of the central components of a Tabletop RPG is the adventure. These segments of a campaign can be as long or as short as you like and often times offer up a good opportunity for GMs to propel the narrative forward by using components of your player character's past or future objectives. We are also excited to be joined by the one and only Brennan Lee Mulligan in this week's Deep Dive. You know him his as: The creator and amazing DM for #Dimension 20, the CollegeHumor D&D actual play show He hosts Adventuring Academy, a vodcast about all things tabletop where he and his guests share incredible insight about playing and running games. He also performed in many CollegeHumor sketches (CEO series) and he made many memorable appearances in Umm actually and Game changer. We had so much fun chatting that the discussion went a little long, and took a few segues into topics such as improv tricks, roleplay strategies and comedic tone. Stay tuned next week for the second half of the conversation. Enjoy!
