XVI: Startup Acceleration—Behind the Scenes, with Purillume
06/29/19 • 13 min
The second episode in our three-part series featuring startups that just graduated from RAP—the RIoT Accelerator Program. This episode features Purillume, a startup focused on smart lighting for better health. CEO Neeraj Lal shares what it was really like participating in a 12-week high-touch startup accelerator. Join us behind the scenes of RIoT Labs in the RIoT Accelerator Program.
Purillume is a new kind of lighting company. One that's committed to moving beyond the limitations of CFL and LED bulbs to deliver the full potential of LED lighting. They didn’t set out to create a new light bulb. They set out to create a new way to experience light. Their first product, the Orchid LED table lamp is the result of thousands of hours of R&D and is in production—and they're just getting started. Learn more at purillume.com.
The RIOT ACCELERATOR PROGRAM (RAP) is accepting applications through June 30th, 2019 at 5pm EST. RIoT invites early stage startups in the Internet of Things space to apply NOW to participate in the 12-week high-touch RIoT Accelerator Program. RAP increases the impact of traditional accelerator programming by connecting you with an industry consortium of more than 75 companies across the IoT technology stack. The Fall 2019 cohort starts September 9th, and there is no cost to startups, no equity taken, and there are scholarships available. RAP provides access to prototyping lab and 6 months free office space, plus free tech resources from Arrow Electronics, Ubidots, Particle, Microsoft, and more. Leverage RIoT's network to learn, collaborate, and bring your product to market. Connect with Program Director Rachael Meleney at [email protected] for questions.

XV: Startup Acceleration—Behind the Scenes, with Green Stream Technologies and Safe Zone
The next three episodes feature startups who just graduated from RAP—the RIoT Accelerator Program. RAP is 12 intensive, high-touch weeks, and these startups share what it was really like participating in a startup accelerator at RIoT Labs. This episode features Green Stream Technologies and Safe Zone. Join us behind the scenes of the RIoT Accelerator Program!
Green Stream Technologies is an environmental technologies firm. They help build safer more resilient communities through the power of smart technology, and their first product is an autonomous flood sensor network that lets people know when and where the roads are flooded, tell them how deep those water levels are, and lets them know when it’s getting better.
SafeZone has a fully automated Gunfire Detection System that features a cloud-based machine learning Detector, which can notify you within seconds of the room in which a gunshot occurred.

XVII: Startup Acceleration—Behind the Scenes, with VitalFlo and NIRSleep
What's it like to be a healthcare startup in the IoT space? In the last of our three-part feature on RAP startups, join both VitalFlo and NIRSleep in the studio. These two startups share a behind-the-scenes description of their RAP experience plus updates on their startups.
VitalFlo's mission is to make respiratory patient management easy, reduce cost of care, and improve patient outcomes. Working with asthma patients can be hard - every patient has unique medications, allergies, and lifestyles. VitalFlo works with clinicians and patients to build a complete picture of each individuals' condition.
NIRSleep is developing and deploying a wearable sensor to measure brain activity. They use infrared light to non-invasively measure changing oxygen concentration in the user’s brain, and relate this to changes in the user’s condition. The NIRSleep system is lightweight and easy to use, opening exciting new opportunities for detecting and tracking cerebrovascular changes in real life environments (i.e non-laboratory and out-of-clinic remote monitoring).
