Revolutionary Rising

Overcoming the lonely road of leadership

After the last episode we know why revolutionary leadership can get so damn lonely, now we are digging into what the fuck to do about it!

We CRAVE a community of like minded people, and seek nourishing reciprocal relationships, but as we dive head first into the pool of prospects we tend to feel a bit more let down versus lifted up.

While each of our journeys is unique, our past traumas are likely going to impede the transition from lonely to supported. Our traumas, formed during periods of feeling unsafe, unseen, unheard, or harmed in our relationships, can be easily triggered when forming new relationships.

Let’s say it together, people cannot meet our needs if they do not know our needs!

Step 1. KNOW our needs

Step 2. Express those needs.

Step 3. Find people wanting/willing to meet said needs

We are breaking the capitalistic constraints of who "valuable community members’" are, and no longer shying away from the growing pains of a good relationship.

This episode we are learning to listen to our nervous system and navigate the journey of community building. No more gravitating to the wrong ass people and deepening old wounds. It takes practice, consistency, and time to build reciprocal, nourishing, relationships and there is no better time than right now to get started!

030: why’s it “lonely at the top”?

Based on the saying that we all know, and have honestly felt intimately at some point or another, “it’s lonely at the top”.

So many of my clients that I work with come to me at pretty much the same point... they are good at holding communities together for others, but feel devoid of a community which supports them in all their needs and wants.

Listen, this isolation of revolutionary leaders is a fucking epidemic! It’s also by (white supremacist) design.

The truth is, we go so much further together, and we know this in our culture, yet we are all functioning in a deeply broken place. We focus on ourselves and believe that asking for help makes our achievements less than, and as women and femmes of color we have become hyper-individualized.

Today we’re going to talk about:

  • Why it feels lonely at the top
  • What white supremacy has to do with this
  • How our intergenerational trauma is getting in the way of us having deeper support in our leadership

If you listen to no other episode of the podcast, (but like, do, it’s dope, lol!) this is the one to listen to because when revolutionary leaders of color come together, support one another, compare notes... ...we truly are capable of liberating our communities and changing the entire fucking world.

032: you give too much, sib

Revolutionary leadership is NOT synonymous with overgiving!

Regardless of the season, overgiving is never in. We are chatting all about the ‘why’ of overgiving. You may ask yourself, how do I regulate my giving when I want to serve and give to as many people as possible? We are diving into giving at our own expense, serving when it is not the best thing for us, when we have other needs, when we are at our capacity.

Overgiving does not equate to being a revolutionary leader. This may come off as shocking, praised leaders are noted to have given until they could give no more, but I promise you this is not a toxic cycle we are going to repeat.

Overgiving is exactly that... A toxic cycle!

While celebrating these leaders we have promoted the idea that to truly serve others is to drain yourself of everything...

FUCK THAT!

This episode we are confronting the toxic ideology that giving all of yourself is what makes a good leader, how white supremicist culture has taught BIPOC that this is our role (to give unconditionally), and how capitalism has conditioned us to function that way.

This episode is not to be missed. Grow in your revolutionary leadership and still have more than enough left over for yourself. I can’t promise you won’t feel called out, you might feel a bit attacked, but there is no growth without some pain, lovelies!
