The return rate of online sales has escalated to 17% of sales, but surprise, you can transform a return into a valuable customer experience. This may sound counterintuitive, but when you manage the process as a positive customer touchpoint, you can create a better customer experience. Steve Prebble, President and CEO of Appriss Retail, joins Robin Lewis and Shelley E. Kohan, TRR’s chief strategist, as they discuss how technologies can help alleviate the challenges of returns in omnichannel retailing.

CEO Robin Lewis and Shelley E. Kohan, chief strategy officer of TRR talk about why brands shouldn't distribute through as many channels as possible, through all retail models, and their own stores. The threat is that they become too ubiquitous - "once hot and now they're not." They also define "new consumerism" and what it will take for retailers to respond to new demands and pressures in the marketplace. Robin advises precision focus, strategic flexibility and technological investments. As he says, "Today, another value chain function, tomorrow, the world." Give yourself 15 minutes to get up to warp speed on the new retail distribution reality.

As part of The Virtual Robin Report Annual Forum, Robin Lewis had a conversation with Dave Kimbell, president of Ulta Beauty. Ulta Beauty was one of The Robin Report Retail Radicals for 2020. The Robin Report Retail Radicals Awards focuses on identifying the radical thinkers and doers exclusively in the legacy retail industry sectors. These radicals are driving the major transformations within their respective retail brands with challenges much larger and more complex than those of often-celebrated tech-driven startups. The Robin Report Index identifies quantitatively and qualitatively outperforming retailers and their innovators within five industry sectors.
Profits + Consumer Trends with Dave Kimbell and Robin Lewis (Originally aired November 11, 12:30-1:30 EST)

Consumers will redefine the retail experience, as they accelerate retailers’ response to new behaviors, demands and needs. Robin Lewis is in conversation with Dave Kimbell to deconstruct how Ulta has retooled its business models to manage the trifecta of a global health crisis, economic disruption and civil unrest. They also outline plans for a challenging Holiday season.

Consumers are speaking out. A class action lawsuit has been filed by two Hermès shoppers in Northern California who are fed up with sales tactics used by this luxury powerhouse.
They allege that the French luxury brand violates federal and California antitrust laws when selling its iconic status-symbol Birkin and Kelly handbags. They claim Hermès has illegally forced customers to spend thousands of dollars on other products to gain access to buying a Birkin bag.
Join Robin and Shelley with guests Michelle Mandelstein, an attorney and an adjunct instructor at Fashion Institute of Technology and Jeff Fisher, VP of retail for Blenders eyewear, as they hash out if the lawsuit has any merit and what impact this may have on the future of the luxury sector.

Special Guest: Rebekah L. Matheny, NCIDQ, IIDA, Associate Professor | Interior Design | Department of Design, The Ohio State University; Founder & Director | REBEL Sustainable Futures Lab

The retail industry stands at a pivotal crossroads where sustainability, inclusivity, and profitability are converging to create a new model for growth. As consumer preferences evolve and environmental consciousness continues to rise, traditional retail operations are being challenged by a more circular, purpose-driven approach that promises both economic and environmental advantages. Circularity also includes store design with compelling supporting data: Circular retail models can generate up to four times higher profits per item while reducing environmental impact by 80 percent. Join Shelley and Rebekah as they unpack why circular design is not just about sustainability, it’s about creating a resilient business model. The imperative for change is clear: As Gen Zers and Alphas gain more purchasing power, their expectations for sustainable and inclusive retail experiences will reshape the industry. Retailers who pivot now will be better positioned to capture this growing market while contributing to a more resilient retail future.
