S3 E13 | Access and Inclusion Through Policy w/Sumedha Deshmukh
Rehash: A Web3 Podcast
12/08/22 • 48 min
On this episode of Rehash we sat down with Sumedha Deshmukh from Crypto Council for Innovation to discuss the intersection of blockchain, policy, inclusion, and accessibility.
Sumedha first became interested in blockchain through the lens of how it could support international development. As a natural skeptic, she began researching blockchain on her own before turning her findings into a video guide for other development practitioners. Over the course of this project, Sumedha became even more interested in the blockchain space and later made the jump by joining the World Economic Forum’s Blockchain and Digital Assets team in 2018.
Diana starts off our discussion with a big question - wen meaningful policy? Sumedha explains how crypto’s history has been ironically plagued by barriers to entry and how that has impacted its adoption by the general public as well as its treatment by legislators. Although the space has developed drastically over the last decade, regulatory organizations are still waiting to see what real world impact blockchain could have before they give it more of their attention. Sumedha also gives us her thoughts around how policy makers could begin protecting consumers without stifling innovation.
During our conversation, we also dive into redistributing wealth and power, self custody, diversity in web3, and how mainstream news cycles influence crypto policy.

S5 E9 | Current State of Crypto Regulation w/Rebecca Rettig
Rehash: A Web3 Podcast
08/17/23 • 44 min
On this episode of Rehash, we speak with Rebecca Rettig, Chief Legal and Policy Officer at Polygon Labs, about the current state of crypto regulation around the world.
This is the first legal and policy focused conversation we’ve had on Rehash in over a year - the last conversation we had on crypto regulation was with Katherine Wu from Archetype and Crypto Council for Innovation all the way back in Season 2.
The main difference I wanted to touch on in this episode (other than just getting a more current take on where crypto regulation currently stands) is getting a more global perspective on how different countries or regions of the world are looking at crypto. Rebecca talks about key pieces of crypto legislation like MiCA (Markets in Crypto Assets) in the EU and FIT (Financial Innovation and Technology for the 21st Century Act) in the US and shares her perspectives on which countries have the most crypto friendly policies.
We focus most of the conversation on crypto policy, but we do chat a bit on the legal front as well. Rebecca talks about some key court cases we’ve seen recently in the U.S., such as the Coinbase case, and shares her take on what she believes the SEC’s strategy is and what that means for us as people building and working in the industry.
Finally we wrap up with some spicy questions from our community, like how to stay out of jail as someone building in web3 or whether crypto will ever succeed in the U.S.
Rebecca was nominated by Carsten and voted onto the podcast by Justin Conley, Katelyn Donnelly, Zayi Reyes, Meg Lister, Aaron Soskin, David Silverman, anon, and Carsten.

S7 E1 | How to Not Get Rekt in Crypto w/DeFi Beats
Rehash: A Web3 Podcast
01/18/24 • 49 min
On our first episode of Season 7, we’re speaking with DeFi Beats aka Johnny Gabriele about how to not get rekt in crypto, why WAGMI is not dead, and his best pieces of advice for newcomers to the crypto and blockchain space.
DeFi Beats is an advisor, investor, DeFi power user, good listener, and self admittedly terrible speller.
He initially had his sights set on getting his PhD and becoming a professor, but when that plan fell through, he found himself in a unique job as part management consultant, part podcaster, and part therapist where he helped numerous people find solutions to problems they were facing across a wide spectrum of areas - from air conditioning to figure skating to life threatening medical conditions.
Today, he has rechanneled his eagerness to help into helping onboard people to the blockchain space and saving people from getting rekt by their inner degenerate. He’s currently building out an AI chatbot called The Crypto Professor that’s designed to help newcomers learn about crypto and stay safe while exploring the space.

S8 E10 | Organizational Design and Governance Frameworks w/Amy Jung (Safe)
Rehash: A Web3 Podcast
06/20/24 • 54 min
On this episode of Rehash, we’re speaking with Amy Jung, Governance Lead at Safe and an OG in the Ethereum and specifically DAO space, about all things organization design, governance, and her hottest takes about DAOs.
Amy joined the Safe team back in March of this year and also has her own DAO operations and strategy consultancy called Shared Realities, where she helps organizations and teams with their progressive decentralization strategy and execution, organizational design, and community development. Previously, she worked at MakerDAO for two years as their Head of Community Development and ConsenSys as their Design Operations Lead.
In this episode, Amy reveals many of her strategies and frameworks she uses to help organizations decentralize, starting with questions any organization should ask themselves to decide first and foremost whether it even makes sense for them to decentralize.
Amy presents information in really clearly thought out frameworks that anyone can take back to their organization and implement, and her dedication to the space and deep expertise in DAO organization design is unmatched.

S7 E5 | Unlocking Human Potential w/Julia Lipton
Rehash: A Web3 Podcast
02/15/24 • 44 min
On this episode of Rehash, we’re speaking with Julia Lipton, Founder and General Partner at Awesome People Ventures, about unlocking latent potential in humans, finding product market fit in web3 communities, and the most important things happening in the global landscape right now.
In many ways it’s surprising that it took us until Season 7 to bring Julia on the podcast because she has actually played a part in Rehash from Day 0 as you’ll hear us talk about at the beginning of this episode. Julia is an investor, connector of people, and all around one of the kindest and most generous humans I’ve encountered in this space.
In this episode we start out by talking about DAO Masters, a project she crowdfunded through Mirror that ended up winding down last summer, and what she learned about the give-get equation through her experience there. She wrote a really thoughtful Twitter thread about the give-get equation that I’ve linked in the show notes and would encourage you all to check out, especially if you’re someone working in or adjacent to the DAO ecosystem.
We then get into a discussion around why there’s so much latent and unused human talent floating around in the corporate world and what people have been doing about it, such as flocking to freelance and contract work, or even to DAOs. Obviously DAOs aren’t perfect and are far from it, but Julia shares some strategies she thinks could be implemented for DAOs to be more effective in their operations while maintaining the same draw they have for people today.
Finally, we talk about what Julia is most focused on in the global landscape with crypto and nintynick chimes in with a question about progressive decentralization.

S7 E4 | Building, Investing, and Finding Ikigai in Crypto w/13yearoldvc
Rehash: A Web3 Podcast
02/08/24 • 48 min
On this episode of Rehash, we’re speaking with 13yearoldvc, Ecosystem Lead at Eigenlayer, about how she studied 50 projects a day to identify trends as a VC, why she now enjoys building more than investing, and what it is about Eigenlayer that she believes makes it a really special one of a kind project.
“If you can’t explain it to a 10 year old in 2 minutes or less, don’t own it.” -Peter Lynch
Few people in web3 are very good at explaining crypto and blockchain concepts in a way that’s easy for mainstream consumers to understand (myself included), but 13yearoldvc is different. She came into this episode loaded with analogies that make complex topics like staking and data availability and seemingly complex projects like Eigenlayer easily understandable to a 10 year old.
On a more personal note, she shares how she found her ikigai with her work at Eigenlayer now and her best advice for others to find their ikigai. She also shares her best advice for others who want to succeed as a VC or as a builder in web3 or both.

S5 E12 | Have We Peaked Yet? w/Raz
Rehash: A Web3 Podcast
09/07/23 • 63 min
On our final episode of Season 5, we’re speaking with Raz about a variety of topics ranging from building games for his siblings as a child to starting his own business at age 14 to forming anonymous relationships online and so much more. Raz is the CEO and co-founder of Guild, a membership management tool that helps you automate requirements, roles, and rewards for your community.
We start off by talking about Raz’s childhood - how he learned to program at the young age of 6 or 7, how he grew up designing board games for his younger siblings because he wasn’t allowed very much screen time to play the computer games he wanted to play, and how his love of all things games - the strategy, the lore, the escape into an alternative universe - all impacted his future decisions and successes as an investor and builder.
Raz made it big back in DeFi summer of 2020 and shares some of his best investment tips with us, like how to identify entry and exit points and how to stay objective in this space. He talks about how investing has helped him become a better builder and some of the things he’s still learning as a successful founder today.
We then get into a conversation around DAOs, how he defines what constitutes a DAO, and whether he thinks DAOs have peaked yet. I ask him about how Guild has been able to strike such a good balance between being a well organized successful company while running on a relatively very flat organizational structure and championing a lot of the ethos of DAO organization that typically tends to lead to chaos, and he attributes a lot of that to the thinking and work of his brother and co-founder, Bruno, who we’ll hopefully get on the podcast next season.
This was the perfect episode to end the season on and definitely one of my personal favorites. And I know I’ve been saying this a lot lately, but the fact is this season was probably my favorite one yet. It’s so inspiring to me that even in the midst of a bear market where sentiments around crypto and web3 are so low that there are still so many bright minds that are still so dedicated to building and furthering the potential that crypto and blockchain can have on the future of the internet.
We’ll be starting our next round of guest nominations and voting in a little over a week, so make sure you’re following us on Twitter @rehashweb3 or join our Discord community so you can stay up to date on all the happenings around that.
