Herb was given the gift of freedom from alcohol February 21, 1984. As the result of the application of the Twelve Steps as contained “precisely” in the AA Big Book he experienced a profound spiritual awakening in 1988. Since then, he has been very involved in carrying the message of recovery through presentations, facilitating workshops, and leading retreats.
He has authored 3 books (see below)
Many have found them helpful for accessing the instructions and confirming the process contained in the Big Book for experiencing and sustaining a spiritual awakening.
Herb is widowed, has three adult children, seven grandchildren, and lives in Rancho
Palos Verdes, California.

Jon R struggled with addiction throughout his teenage years and went into residential treatment at the age of 19 for alcohol and drug use. At 28 Jon was diagnosed with advanced-stage thyroid cancer in early 2003. As a result of complications from his first surgery, Jon was prescribed oxycontin. Jon’s story involves a 14-year struggle with drugs and alcohol, losing his career, and nearly losing his family. He tried using the knowledge from his education to fight this disease and it wasn't until he turned to a Higher Power for help. He is actively involved in AA with his personal recovery. He will talk on his experience, strength, and hope of addressing fear.

Sarah B identifies as a blackout codependent. She has been a member of Codependents Anonymous for almost 7 years. Sarah spent 18 months in the rooms of CoDA attending meetings weekly. Although learning a lot about the disease of codependency, sponsorship was not a part of her meetings. Eventually, Sarah helped start a step study group within the fellowship so that members could work the steps in recovery using the Big Book. This still continues today. However, after yet another bottom and yet another failed relationship, Sarah needed more help than simply going to meetings. Even the coda step study was insufficient to provide Sarah with the help she desperately needed. 2.5 years ago, by the grace of God, she found a sponsor in the rooms of SLAA who believed in the undiluted message of the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. 3 months later, Sarah was rocketed in the fourth dimension of existence. She went from being suicidal, anxiety ridden, and hopeless to being happy, joyous and free. Since then, Sarah has been on a mission to sponsor members of coda and share the Big Book message with those who still suffer. In March 2020, Sarah started “The Spiritual Solution” group of Codependents Anonymous on Monday nights at 8:00 pm. This is a women’s group whose primary purpose is to connect untreated codependents to recovered codependents who can guide the newcomer through a personalized study of the Big Book of AA.

Evie found Codependents Anonymous (CoDA) when CoDA was just a year old and has been working her CoDA recovery program for almost 35 years. She has done service throughout most of that time at every level of the Fellowship which has supported her recovery growth. She found CoDA after many years of therapy and other personal development efforts and believes that CoDA and the 12 steps has given her the most important tools she needed to heal her relationships, especially with members of her family of origin. For 31 of those years Evie was in a committed relationship/marriage with another member of CoDA. Their relationship went through many periods of struggle and, thanks to their CoDA recovery program, it became truly loving and supportive as they supported each other in their ongoing recovery journey.

Andrew and Sara were a previous speaker on meeting 83. This is a fantastic follow-up to that meeting. Here is a little about Andrew and Sara.
I am Andrew, and a 47 year old recovering sexaholic, sober over 6 years. I joined SA fellowship over 11 years ago, . My primary fellowship is Sexaholics Anonymous, i have sponsor and few sponsees, I have also worked the steps in CODA (codependency program). I am also clean from drugs for over 23 years. Recently I started to do part-time work as an addiction therapist in a small clinic that specializes in sex addiction. In recovery I found God and God's guidance, and thanks to His grace I have been married for more than 2 years to my lovely wife Sara whom I first met in SA. I am living the life I had never expected to be possible for me.
My name is Sara. I am a 30 year old recovering sex addict, sober from lust thanks to God's grace for more than 4.5 years. I have worked the 12 step program with a sponsor and served as a sponsor to other female sex addicts in our fellowship. Since I am married to another recovering sex addict I am also part of the S-Anon fellowship which helps me to address the patterns of codependency and heal from them as well. When I first joined the SA fellowship I was a broken woman. I felt like my life was over. I reached my lowest low and didn't expect there was any decent life possible after that. But God in His goodness made me recover rapidly and soon after gave me my wonderful husband and best friend- Andrew. We have our highs and lows but mutual faith and the 12 steps principles keep us close and make our marriage flourish.
