The ORs: April 14th, 1865

The "Rally on the Colors" Podcast returns with yet another episode from the ORs, this one focusing on the events surrounding April 14th, 1865 and how they pertain to the events in and around Washington D.C. Bill and Steve deep dive the assassination plot carried out by John Wilkes Booth, Lewis Powell, David Herold and George Atzerodt as they attempt to dismantle the leadership within the US government as they plan to kill President Abraham Lincoln, Secretary of State William Seward and Vice President Andrew Johnson. The episode steers away from the conspiracies and examines the facts, including a series of small events that all intertwine themselves in what will become the assassination of the 16th President of the United States. A follow-on episode will eventually be released that covers more detail about the conspirators, their apprehension, the subsequent military tribunal and the fallout that occurs from the assassination. We hope you enjoy this episode as we attempt to shed light on some of the often overlooked crucial details of the assassination as it gets mythicized with creative license often taken in the mainstream media when the story is told. Again, we thank you for your continued support and we thank you for listening!

The ORs: The Prisoner of War Process - From Battlefield to Prison Camp

The "Rally on the Colors" Podcast returns with another episode from the ORs, this one specifically focusing on the prisoner of war process. In this episode, Bill and Steve, deep dive the process that Civil War soldiers faced from the time they were captured on the battlefield until they were incarcerated at a prisoner of war camp. In this episode you will find information specific to the Army of the Potomac and how the Provost Guard and Provost Marshal acted within their roles. The episode also includes a small segment covering the Articles of War from the Revised Regulations of the United States Army of 1861 and how those articles played a role in the prisoner of war process. This episode specifically focuses around soldiers being captured during the Gettysburg Campaign due to the Dix-Hill Cartel fallout after the Confederate Congress decided to recognize African-American Union soldiers as fugitive slaves. The episode ends by specifically focusing on the two worst camps of the War, Elmira in the North and Andersonville in the South. We hope you enjoy this episode as some of the topics near the end were difficult to discuss and walk away from this episode with a perspective about the process that soldiers went through upon being captured on the battlefield. We thank you for your continued support! Always Forward!
