181: A wake-up call for racing | The Front Page | Horse Racing News | Racing Post

Last week the BHA revealed that betting on racing continues to decline, falling almost 6 per cent in the first quarter of 2024 to extend a rout extending back to 2022. Joined on the Front Page by Bill Barber and Jonathan Harding, Tom Kerr says the latest figures should be a wakeup call for racing and warns the sport's lack of leadership is hindering efforts to deal with the gathering crisis.
The panel also discusses the imminent general election and its implications for racing, before turning to all the latest racing stories including Betfred's sponsorship of all five British Classics, the debate over the Irish Derby length and City Of Troy's upcoming appearance in the Coral-Eclipse.

183: City Of Troy wins but still disappoints | The Front Page | Horse Racing News | Racing Post

A general election, a dramatic skirmish and a hard-fought Sandown success are the topics up for debate in this week's edition of The Front Page.
Richard Forristal kicks things off by examining City Of Troy's workmanlike triumph in the Coral-Eclipse. Most people seemed to be underwhelmed but Richard argues it would be wrong to be too downbeat about what we saw.
Sir Keir Starmer enjoyed a much more decisive victory when the United Kingdom went to the polls. What does a Labour government mean for racing and should the sport be considering a former Conservative MP for a senior role at the BHA?
The programme ends with Jonathan Harding exploring last week's media rights showdown between the Martin Cruddace-led Arena Racing Company and gambling giant Flutter. With bookmakers still adamant they are paying too much, what comes next?
