Quincy Jones, whose decorated music career ran from the early 1950s through the best-known works of Michael Jackson and beyond, died on Sunday November 3, 2024. He was 91.

His death was confirmed by his publicist in a statement to NPR that did not mention the cause of death. The statement said that Jones died peacefully at his home in Bel Air, California, surrounded by his family.
A private funeral has been held a week after his death.

The memorial was attended by close family members in Los Angeles following the legendary music producer's death at age 91 on Nov. 3, the Associated Press reported Sunday. A second larger ceremony is being planned for the public to attend.
PARTS 1, 2, & 3: JANINE, SCOTT & JULIANNA offer some highly in-depth insights into the life, music and legacy of the late-great QUINCY JONES. At the end, DJ ROME breaks down the night he met in person THE DUDE himself.

PSYCHOTIC BUMP SCHOOL PODCAST - Episode 156: PBS #156-"Wonder Woman 1984" & A Final Lament for 2020
play

12/28/20 • 89 min

***SPOILER WARNING***
December 28, 2020: For the final episode of 2020, DJ ROME welcomes back award winning comic book storyteller HANNIBAL TABU for his take on the latest installment into the big screen canon of DC films "WONDER WOMAN 1984." {Includes spoilers]
Part 1- "With Slavish Devotion": HANNIBAL gives us his breakdown of Patty Jenkins' "WW84" while putting into context the marketing business model that successfully converted comic book franchises into cinematic success-but does that include this film?
Part 2-"Improbable": HANNIBAL continues his analysis while expanding the conversation to the larger creative narrative of a critical technique absent in many DC big screen movies. Can you guess what the missing link is?
Part 3-"Rome's 2020 Lament": For the final segment, DJ ROME provides a reflective monologue that ties together the landmark events that helped shape 2020 into the most notorious on record from its struggling economy, its record-setting election that unseated an intransigent incumbent, and the devastating remnants of COVID-19 that took the lives of 330K Americans in under twelve months.
A very sobering, yet hope-infused finale for 2020, so press PLAY, SHARE with your friends, and have a safe 2021!

For this comprehensive and extended episode that aired on June 15, 2017, TE RUSS and DJ ROME welcomed 4 distinguished guests to discuss the current plight of the global African American community. Representing both Compton California and Shreveport Louisiana, educator/entrepreneur ZOLTAN SHARIF (Black To The Basics Bookstore-Grambling State University) speaks about the importance of seizing opportunities within the community as a means of economic empowerment. Mr. Sharif also speaks about his enduring friendship with Neo-Soul superstar ERYKAH BADU, her role in contributing toward the original and re-emerging Black To The Basics Bookstore, and his appearance in her 1997 debut music video "ON and ON." Mrs. CHRISTINA XLIMIT also joined the discussion but only MOMENTS after her husband was victimized by an assault and robbery at the hands of three assailants. But steadfast and poised and after a safety check, Mrs XLimit was ultimately able to harness her resiliency enough to share her perspectives gained from her experiences with the Black Lives Matter movement in Denver Colorado. For a global/historical context, DR. DONTRANEIL CLAYBORNE, professor, world traveler, and purveyor of the African diaspora shares his views on Africans throughout the world and the importance of establishing and maintaining a connection between Africans worldwide and those within our domestic communities here in America. And returning for the second time, comedian/political commentator Mr. JEFFREY KELLER from 90.7 FM KPFK in Los Angeles steps in to offer his conscious and comedic discourse regarding that very slippery slope where entertainment meets with politics (ala Bill Cosby, Kathy Griffin, Bill Maher, and the "N" word). A far-reaching and all-encompassing episode awaits you with this one so press play and enjoy.
