#82 Richard Parsons - KiteMagnetics: Accelerating the Emissions-Free Future of Air Travel
06/07/23 • 55 min
In this episode of Products With Purpose, Eli spoke with Richard Parsons, Founder and CEO of Kite Magnetics
Kite Magnetics is a deep-tech hardware startup with a mission to accelerate the transition to emissions-free aviation. They are hard at work developing the world’s highest-performance electric motors and generators so that future aircraft can fly further, carry more and emit less.
Prior to founding Kite Magnetics, Richard worked as a researcher at Monash University for 10 years where he developed new magnetic materials specifically for ultra-high-performance electric motors. In 2021 he left academia to start Kite Magnetics as a spinout company from Monash University to commercialize a new materials technology he co-invented that is being used to produce a new generation of smaller, lighter, and more efficient electric motors for use on electric aircraft so that they can fly further and carry more.
Some of the highlights from this episode:
- The future potential of revolutionizing travel
- Understanding how affordable electric planes will lead to more point-to-point short routes
- Transitioning from academia to entrepreneurship and securing venture capital funding
- Building and leading exceptional teams
