Practical Shamanism - 083- Free Yourself from Past Life Vows
play

07/10/24 • 28 min

In past lives, we tended to place energetic bindings on the oaths and vows we swore. These could be vows of marriage, chastity, or poverty. In each case, there were energetic structures put in place to hold us to the vow. Often those past life promises are disruptive to our contemporary experiences. So, it’s wise to clear them and free ourselves. In this podcast I teach more about how this works as well as ways you can be free of this energy- either with help or as a DIY project.

Practical Shamanism - 079- How To Raise Your Vibration
play

03/11/24 • 36 min

When we raise our vibration (or make our energy brighter), we move through the world more easily. It improves our direct, in the moment experience as well as helping to manifest things that support us and deflect things that do not. There are many things we can do to raise our vibration. Ideally, you want to create a personal list of things that have a high return on investment of results for energy expended. These things ideally will also be highly accessible on an average Tuesday and be things that you enjoy doing. I give a number of possible activities and experiences that might support this.

In addition, I have some potent energetic techniques to help you if you’d like to work with me.

Practical Shamanism - 045- Thriving in Your Relationship to Yourself
play

03/02/22 • 47 min

Having a good relationship with yourself is complex because of the depth of shared experience. The fewer conflicting needs and less complexity in a relationship, the easier it is for an average emotionally intelligent person to be successful with another person, given a similar baseline level of harmony. I feel like certain words like “self-esteem” and “gratitude” can mislead us to an oversimplification of a complex relationship when it comes to our internal experience and make us feel like we’re failing in some way.

I love witnessing friendships, romantic relationships, business partnerships, parent/child relationships that are joyful and successful over the long-term. I see markers of success as relationships with high levels of affinity and mutual respect with resilience in the face of difficult external circumstances. If you ask these people about their relationships, they will often speak to the merits of the other person and go on to say they’ve had ups and downs and that it takes a lot of work. But somehow, we don’t seem to apply this wisdom to the relationship to ourselves- that we’re nifty people, but being us has ups and downs and takes a lot of presence to the relationship for it to thrive.

In this rather rambling episode, I speak into some of my wisdom about reframing concepts like self-esteem, gratitude, and self-sabotage. I hope to support you in implementing unconditional friendliness towards yourself as well as a willingness to be in the complexity of balancing the needs and desires that go alone with being you.

I’ve studied how to align the chakras for optimal money outcomes a great deal since often my sensitive, intuitive, spiritually engaged, open-hearted clients have challenges with having enough money. One of the ways this challenge arises is when the idea of “more money” becomes an over-simplified version of what you feel is needed to be happy, fulfilled, and thriving in your life. Money is important for sure, but if you tangle so many other pain points and longing in with your money thoughts, things get messy, energetically and in your mind. Looking to “money” just to provide you with the things money is good for like safety and security and a material life that is good for you, you’ll be in a far better place to manifest money and to clearly see and implement right action to change your circumstances in this area as needed.

In this podcast, I help illuminate some unrelated needs and desires that often get mashed into thoughts and feelings about money that get in the way of working effectively in this area, both internally and with action in the world. Maybe money isn’t your problem, but you might be able to find where you’ve oversimplified one aspect such as relationship, career, or appearance change into making you feel like this would solve everything. Doing so often creates stagnation, psychological pain, and a lack of inspired action that effectively leads to new results.

About this Podcast:

This podcast is intended to provide a map for a deeper engagement for the experienced seeker as well as practical, accessible knowledge to the person who wasn’t quite sure how to pronounce shamanism at the start.

A little more about me.

At 24, I found myself stepping into my adult life with an engineering degree, unmanaged psychic gifts, and a painful lack of interpersonal skills. I was overwhelmed, overstimulated, and exhausted a good deal of the time. Yet, this led me to an amazing journey of self-discovery that continues to unfold to this day. I now have three published books (including Practical Shamanism, A Guide for Walking in Both Worlds) and am thrilled that my full-time shamanic practice has allowed me to work with thousands of clients all over the world. My social circle is rich and extensive to a degree I could never have imagined as a lonely teenager who got along better with her goats than with her fellow human beings.

My mechanical engineering background has helped me focus my healing work on the necessity of system integrity. The human spirit is a highly complex system that can break down in complicated and subtle ways. Much of my shamanic work is oriented toward wholeness. I help people recover their power and magic as well as all the parts they’ve lost, forgotten, denied, and disowned. I’ve done more than ten thousand shamanic journeys and am very comfortable working with the hard, scary stuff.

This podcast is meant to provide a map to bring a key part yourself into a collaborative relationship with the other aspects of yourself. In doing so, your external results, such as success with money, career, and relationship may improve dramatically with less effort on your part. As Archimedes is reported to have said, “give me a lever long enough and a place to stand, and I shall move the world,” I’m passionate about finding leverage points in which a small amount of well applied effort creates significant outcomes. Everything I recommend is filtered through the lens of “efficiency”. I assume you’re already living a busy, full life, and if you carve out a bit of bandwidth to listen to my words or do a practice, you need it to make a meaningful difference in your life.

For the internal side, these concepts will help reduce anxiety and give you some new ways to combat depression. Do you play an unkind script in your head that recounts your many failings? I’ll help you understand why, oh why, your mind does that to you and how to redirect it in a happier fashion. I’d love to help you understand how to tend your energy body which is a great way to support improvement with health challenges or clear them before they ever manifest. Also, my hope is to provide you with a meaningful way to engage with your sense of soul purpose and to feel you have a trustworthy internal compass as you navigate through life.

Why shamanism? I found it to be the most aligned framework for helping me to navigate and utilize the information my sense of energy was providing. Core shamanism (a term coined by Michel Harner) refers to the set of practices that are universal or nearly universal across indigenous cultures throughout the world. My shamanic journey has been the work of mastering a set of shamanic skills and then applying them to the challenges of the modern, first world experience,...

Practical Shamanism - 075- Emotional Set Points

075- Emotional Set Points

11/22/23 • 39 min

People often end up limiting their emotional experience to a handful of flavors. These could be unpleasant ones that they default into and/or favorite ones that they chase. This approach disconnects us from a lot of the opportunity of the human experience and tends to promote some health challenges along the way.

In this podcast I share a bit about a client of mine who had a number of lifetimes experiencing a particular flavor of difficult emotions. The result was that all of the healing she sought out and her own excellent mindfulness practices tended not to move the dial nearly as much as they should have. I think of it like an old mattress where it takes effort not to roll into the low spot, costing freedom of movement and access to the rest of the bed.

In this podcast, I hope to help you tune into your default emotions and expand the range of your life experience.

Practical Shamanism - 080- Navigating Feedback and Criticism
play

04/10/24 • 53 min

If you’re hurt and angered by unsolicited criticism, you come by it honestly through human biology. It activates our instincts. In the modern world, we navigate so many intrusive opinions about how we live our lives coming from people who aren’t stakeholders in how we do life.

Having a well-thought-out personal policy about who is and isn’t invited to give advice, feedback, reflection, or criticism is useful in being able to navigate these situations effectively. Then we can fast track soothing our instincts and coming back to center, rather than ruminating on triggered, distorted reflections from unqualified sources. In our important relationships, it is vital to understand how we impact the other person directly, but we can still have boundaries about what opinions beyond their direct experience are invited.

When we’re stressed, our minds often ruminate on the past and worry about the future. When it comes to the future, we tend to imagine that we’ll have the same or less (money, support, health, etc.) to deal with hard things. Meditation and moving our bodies are great medicine for this. But, for me, I also cultivate the ability to facilitate my mind into shifting away from overthinking the future. Creating authentic faith in future me to deal with situations as they arise is something that I’ve found helpful. I share more about that in this episode.

Practical Shamanism - 082- Heal Now, Resolve the Past Later
play

06/10/24 • 46 min

Sometimes people have the false belief that they need to resolve all the pain and trauma of the past before they can make functional choices in the present. In this podcast, I talk about some focus points to help yourself make a very quick shift or change when a pattern urgently needs to change. I hope to give you a better map for pathways to healing that don’t have to have a big time lag to getting to a place in your life that is functional and sustainable. I invite everyone to be in a lifelong exploration of the relationship to themselves and to thrive in their lives in more and more elegant and fulfilling ways. And, sometimes, triage is important to focus your efforts.
