Energy management is the unsung hero when we’re searching for better “time management” because when we have the same amount of time, we need to pay attention to what we do in that time and our energy is directly linked to that. This week, episode 106 of the Positively Living Podcast is about choosing what energizes you through mindfulness.
In this episode of the Positively Living Podcast, my guest Sarah Steckler shares the power our thoughts have and she provides actionable steps you can take right now to integrate this idea of intentional, energy driven productivity that leaves you feeling both grounded and connected to yourself.
Sarah and I cover the following topics:
  • An intentional productivity practice that keeps your energy, capacity, and intentions in mind that fills the gaps where the ideas drawn from corporate hustle were lacking.
  • How being present in the moment directly influences your life.
  • Paying attention to what drives, drains, and produces your energy.
  • Letting go of guilt by getting curious.
  • Journaling to do a daily structured brain dump so you can intentionally capture your ideas and hold space for your thoughts.
  • 1 question and 1 action that will help us identify our energy management needs and find the clarity necessary to focus and be truly productive.
It is important to remember that our mindset constantly needs tending and that by being present and noticing our energy, we can begin to restructure our life to work in this ebb and flow and avoid burnout.

Gratitude, something I talk often about on this podcast, is the concept of appreciating, which can look like celebration when you share it. Savoring that appreciation is the pause of being fully present in that moment to receive all of the good. This week, episode 159 of the Positively Living Podcast is about savoring and celebrating your successes!

In this episode of the Positively Living Podcast, I’m sharing the concepts of what it means and why we should savor and celebrate things and walking my own talk by savoring and celebrating some of my own podcast milestones.

I cover the following topics:

  • What savoring and celebration are.
  • How they connect to gratitude.
  • Ways in which savoring and celebration have come up in my life.
  • The 3 B’s that block us from practicing this more often.
  • 4 ways to savor and celebrate more things in your life.

Savoring and celebrating are key to building resilience and being more present in your life. What you focus on, you fuel. Find the good and let it grow.

We often refer to all types of stress just as “stress” but there is a difference between eustress (good stress) and distress (bad stress). When we make this distinction, we’re able to clearly see how some stress can be a useful tool (is, in fact, necessary) for increasing productivity. This week, episode 205 of the Positively LivingR Podcast is about why some stress actually helps you perform better.

In this episode of the Positively LivingR Podcast, I share how different levels of stress impact our well-being and productivity and give you actionable steps to take right now to find the right balance of stress to get into a state of focus and flow.

I cover the following topics:

  • Stress itself is neither good nor bad, but our response to stressors determines whether or not it serves us.
  • Examples of how stress can increase short-term performance and focus by boosting adrenaline.
  • The Yerkes-Dodson law that shows us the relationship between arousal (i.e., stress) and performance.
  • Types of arousal (mental, emotional, or physical) and factors that affect your level of arousal.

Like everything else, it all comes down to self-awareness. You will know when you’re in the optimal range of stress when your mental capacity, attentiveness, processing speed, and ability to learn and make decisions are at their best.

As we’ve discussed in past episodes, burnout is all too common, and that is all the more reason to focus podcast content on healing. It’s time to explore another tool from our personalized productivity toolbox–Internal Family Systems (IFS)–an evidence-based approach to tackling burnout as well as other chronic conditions. This week, episode 182 of the Positively Living Podcast is about using Internal Family Systems as a proven treatment for burnout

Katie LaCelle is a somatic IFS practitioner who is passionate about helping people uncover their own internal wise leaders and reconnect with their deepest embodied intuition. IFS, or internal family systems, is a trauma-informed therapy modality that can help you get present, rewire your brain, and regulate your nervous system. In her spare time, Katie coaches others to and performs herself on the flying trapeze.

In this episode of the Positively Living Podcast, Katie helps us understand IFS and how this trauma-informed therapy model can help you get present, regulate your nervous system, and even rewire your brain.

Katie and I cover the following topics:

  • The burdens we pick up along the course of our lives to make us feel safe.
  • Understanding the parts within us and the roles they play.
  • The 8 C’s of softening and reintegrating back to yourself.
  • Getting to the underlying problems to recover from burnout and avoid it altogether.
  • The first step to bringing more curiosity to your system.

We often think of burnout as something obvious and big–where we cross a line and that’s it! We’re down for the count. But burnout is more nuanced than that and the early and more subtle signs can zip by us undetected, leading us to hit rock bottom and ask ourselves, “How did I get here?” This week, episode 206 of the Positively LivingR Podcast is about the early signs of burnout that may surprise you!

In this episode of the Positively LivingR Podcast, I share how burnout is not something that only happens once, especially when constantly left untreated, and I offer actionable steps to take right now to spot it quicker so that you can come back from it fully and create a life that doesn’t welcome it.

I cover the following topics:

  • Defining burnout (physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion) and its cause (prolonged stress).
  • 6 early signs of burnout you’ll want to watch for.
  • Examples of practices you can start today to check in with yourself regularly and detect burnout early on.

Consistent self-reflection is essential to spot differences in your behavior and pinpoint why these differences are happening. When you spot them early, you can adjust quickly, getting ahead of the burnout andboosting your overall well-being.
