Pest Geek Pest Control Podcast Worlds #1 Pest Control Training Podcast

Franklin Hernandez

I started the pest geek pest control podcast because i saw such a need to continuously train pest control technicians but unfortunately the only training most of us get is at the annual CEU training, but so much happens throughout the year that affects us but we never find out about it. Most pest control business are solopreneurs or small operations of less than 10 employees, between sales and service call you have to do marketing and bookkeeping, order products, and everything else that will fall on you plate that day. You don’t have time to read articles, surf the web, scourge thru magazines or much less read 180 page Phd dissertation, but you can listen to an audio version if it doesn’t interrupt your day, like on your morning commute or while you are performing a mind numbing task. I know what its like i am the founder of NaturePest and a Certified Pest Control Operator in General Household Pests and Lawn and Ornamental Pest Control in the State of Florida as well as a Certified Horticultural Specialist From Miami Dade College. Im also also a State Certified Best Management Instructor. I created the Pest Geek Podcast because i love to learn, teach and instruct as well as a love to serve others and what a wonderful way to give back. I hope this podcast will make a huge contribution to the pest management industry.

Welcome to another insightful episode of the Pestgeek Podcast with holistic pest control management specialist Franklin 'The Pestgeek' Hernandez! In this compelling video, Franklin opens up about his personal journey with stress and its profound impact on his physical health. He shares invaluable lessons learned along the way, offering a relatable and heartfelt narrative that many can identify with.

Franklin begins by describing the overwhelming stress he faced while managing both his business and personal life. Balancing the demands of running a business and dealing with home-related issues created an intense pressure cooker environment. Over several years, he found himself constantly battling colds, unaware that these recurring illnesses were actually stress-related.

Building a business from the ground up, managing employees, and handling high-pressure situations contributed significantly to his stress levels. Franklin's approach to stress was to internalize it, a coping mechanism that eventually led to severe physical symptoms. He experienced debilitating back pain, which became so intense that he required regular sessions with a massage therapist to find relief.

The year 2017 was particularly challenging for Franklin. He faced a trifecta of stressors that pushed his health to the brink. First, a hurricane loomed, creating a high-stress situation as he prepared for the storm. Compounding this, he had been without his blood pressure medication for a week due to a discontinuation, which caused his blood pressure to spike dangerously. To top it off, personal issues came to a head when his wife asked for a divorce. The combination of these stressors led to severe chest pains and an alarming spike in his blood pressure, reaching levels as high as 160 over 110.

This health crisis prompted Franklin to seek medical attention urgently. After undergoing extensive tests, including a calcium score test, it was confirmed that his heart was healthy. Despite the severe symptoms, his heart showed no signs of disease, plaque, or valve damage. The doctors concluded that his symptoms were purely stress-related, highlighting the profound impact that stress can have on physical health.

Throughout this ordeal, Franklin learned valuable lessons about managing stress and taking care of his health. He realized the importance of not internalizing stress and finding healthier ways to cope with pressure. His story is a powerful reminder of how crucial it is to address stress proactively and seek support when needed.

Welcome to "Living the Wildlife," the podcast dedicated to unraveling the complexities of wildlife control. Hosted by wildlife control consultant Stephen Vantassel, this show is your go-to resource for resolving wildlife conflicts effectively.

Wildlife control is more critical than ever, especially in areas where urban development and natural habitats intersect. Whether it's raccoons rummaging through trash cans, skunks nesting under porches, or red foxes causing disturbances, wildlife conflicts are a common concern for homeowners and businesses alike.

The importance of wildlife control lies in maintaining a balance between humans and animals. While we share our environment with these creatures, sometimes they venture a little too close for comfort. Wildlife control allows us to coexist peacefully by mitigating conflicts and ensuring the safety of both humans and animals.

In this extended episode, we'll delve into bait dynamics in wildlife control. Bait is a critical component of trapping, but its effectiveness can vary greatly depending on environmental factors.

Temperature plays a significant role in how long bait remains effective. High temperatures can cause bait to spoil quickly, losing its scent and appeal. Low temperatures, on the other hand, can prolong the life of bait, giving you a better chance of attracting your target animals.

Sunlight can also impact bait. In hot, sunny conditions, bait can dry out and become less aromatic, affecting its attractiveness to wildlife. Humidity is another factor to consider, as it can impact how odors linger in the air.

In this episode, we also explore a fascinating study conducted by Rebecca E. Rusika and Michael R. Conover. This research focuses on the impact of wind and humidity on meso-predators, such as raccoons, skunks, and red foxes.

Meso-predators are unique because they rely heavily on their sense of smell to locate prey. Wind and humidity can significantly influence their ability to detect scent cues.

The researchers found that wind speed and direction played a pivotal role in a predator's ability to locate prey. On nights when the wind speed ranged from 2 to 9 miles per hour, meso-predators were more active and had a higher likelihood of spotting prey.

Understanding these findings can help wildlife control professionals strategically place traps to intercept animals' natural movements while taking advantage of prevailing winds.

As you continue your journey into the world of wildlife control, remember that knowledge is your greatest asset. By mastering bait dynamics and trap placement, you're well on your way to becoming a true professional in the field.

Thank you for joining us on "Living the Wildlife." Stay tuned for more insights and expertise on wildlife control, and don't forget to connect with us on Facebook and Rumble. We look forward to sharing this fascinating world with you.

Join The Pest Geek Live Or Ask The Pest Geek Live Mondays @8 AM EST Today's Topic: Upselling VS CrossSelling

Upselling and cross-selling are both sales strategies used to maximize the value of a customer by offering additional purchases, but they differ in approach and execution.

Upselling is the practice of encouraging a customer to buy a more expensive version of a product or service that they are already in the process of purchasing. The goal is to make a more profitable sale by suggesting a higher-end version of the item, an upgrade, or an additional feature that increases the value of their purchase. For example, if a customer is booking a standard room in a hotel, an upsell would be to offer them a suite or a room with a better view for an additional cost.

Cross-selling, on the other hand, involves recommending related products or services that complement what the customer is already buying. This strategy aims to increase the customer's purchase size by adding more items to their basket, enhancing their overall experience with complementary products. An example of cross-selling would be suggesting a travel insurance policy to a customer who is booking a flight, or offering a phone case to someone purchasing a new smartphone.

In essence, upselling focuses on upgrading or enhancing the primary product the customer intends to buy, while cross-selling aims to sell additional, complementary products or services alongside the primary purchase. Both strategies can effectively increase revenue and enhance customer satisfaction by providing more value.
