Episode 38: Resting is a rebellious act. So rest.
Rest as a rebellious act
Feeling overwhelmed and waiting to get through the backlog of things-to-do before you rest?
The mistaken belief that we cannot rest when we need to - just because we feel like it.
Culturally unacceptable to rest when you are tired - just because you feel like it is derided.
And yet rest is such a beautiful thing. How good do you feel when well-rested? How much clarity and ease and joy to you gain from resting?
We have one body and yet we treat it as if we can just swap it out for the new one hanging fresh and ready to go at the back of the wardrobe.
Stop burning through your life-energy as if it was worthless. Listen to your body. Rest when you need to. Without guilt, or worry that you might never get up again.
Trust your body - it’s a miracle, quite literally. You’re tired because you need a break, not because you’re weak and useless.
I dare you to rebel against the pressure to keep going.
Resting is a rebellious act.
So rest.
‘Rested, we are ready for the world, but not held hostage by it...’

Episode 40: The Problem with Mindset Work
The Problem with Mindset
Yes of course mindset matters and changing your mindset has the potential to change your life in exciting ways.
But you can’t just implant a positive mindset on top of all the negative thoughts and feelings.
Mindset is deep work and takes time.
Repeating positive affirmations that don’t feel true for you doesn’t work. What does work is acknowledging where you and starting from there.
Dropping into the body and noticing the physical sensations that come up for you around a mindset you wish to (or have been told to change) can be really helpful and easier than staying stuck in your head with the ‘shoulds’, ‘oughts’ and need for constant self-improvement.
Starting with the Zen premise that you are both perfect AND a work in progress, rather than something to be constantly improved, someone who is lacking and needs to work on themselves is far more empowering than trying to force a shallow mindset shift.
Ultimately mindset work is part of the coninutal journey of self-acceptance and the value we place on ourselves, our work and our impact on the world.
Be kind to yourself. Go at your own pace with playful curiousity. What comes up for you around the mindset shift is the really powerful stuff.
Mindset work is just another tool for helping you live the unexpectedly lovely life you long for. Don’t let it be another thing to beat yourself up with :)
And remember you are PERFECT AND A WORK IN PROGRESS.
Want the fastest most effective way to turn your overwhelm into the joy, satisfaction and ease you're working so hard for? Book a Curiosity Call and discover what it's like to be coached by me. I look forward to meeting you.
