Right now, as we all know, there’s a phenomenal amount of emotional chaos and turmoil sweeping the globe surrounding the Corona Virus [COVID-19].

There are so many uncertainties: Grocery stores are wiped out, cities are shutting down, people can no longer make an income, travel bans are in place – and entire countries are on complete lockdown.

So, it’s easy to see why there’s a huge rise of fear, mayhem and panic across the globe. All of our lives have been completely disrupted and forced into a state of upheaval.

These are truly unprecedented times.

So, how can you remain in the drivers seat of your life, when the entire world around you is spinning out of control?

How can you use this time of global lockdown to elevate your life and overcome depression?

Well, the first step is stop emotionally reacting to all the sensational television and media reports.

Because, here’s the deal...

When we overreact emotionally to what’s going on around us, we activate the amygdala within our brain, which triggers the fight/flight response, our Sympathetic Nervous System.

(Now, if you’ve watched my FREE On-Demand Webclass at overcomedepressionandthrive.com/free – you’ll know, the Sympathetic Nervous System, as your Survival System).

And, when our Sympathetic Nervous System (Survival System) gets activated, it puts additional stress on our system, weakens and runs down our immune system, leaving us MORE susceptible to the virus!

Which is the exact opposite of what we want or need right now!

So, to not leave ourselves MORE vulnerable and open for infection, we need to just stop, take a step back, turn off our televisions, stop scrolling our newsfeed and take this time for ourselves to actually build up and improve our immune system – not run it down – by following the media-driven hysteria.

Because, the facts are...

Yes, some people are dying. But, there are also thousands of people who are infected, who don’t have any major symptoms whatsoever. Because of these two extremes in outcome, there’s clearly something distinctive in the individual that decides their fate.

In other words, it’s the strength of the immune system of the individual person who gets infected, and not the virus alone, which dictates their fate.

So, how can you easily boost your immune system, so you remain healthy, resilient and strong during this time?

Well, one way is by simply, turning inward and asking yourself:

  • How can I best use this time to propel my life forward?
  • How can you best use this new found “free time” to best serve you?
  • How can you use it for your highest good?

Because, the truth is...

Even in a crisis, there’s a blessing. Even in the toughest of challenges, there are opportunities.

And, when we set up our mindset to start looking for the blessings instead of the curse, in every situation, we activate our Parasympathetic Nervous system.

This is the side of our nervous system which activates our internal healing response, which instantly boosts our immunity, making us more resilient through tough times and making us less susceptible to disease, infection, inflammation and depression.

Another positive way to use this time, is to just take a step back from all the chaos, find a quiet space, take a few long deep breaths and ask yourself:

  • How is this current crisis serving you?

For example; if you’re like the vast majority of us you’ve had a sudden change in your lifestyle or daily routine. Well, instead of getting frustrated and annoyed with what’s happening, how about you ask yourself:

  • How you can actually use this change in lifestyle or daily routine to your greatest advantage?

Why not use this enforced lockdown and isolation to simply turn inwards and think about what you truly want and need in your life?

Simply because, we cannot make the negative, positive, simply by wishing it so.

This method, on the other hand is based on rock-solid biology and science.

You see, when you start to truly understand how your body-mind system works, you’ll begin to see that your internal chemistry is not some internal mystical force that you have absolutely no control over.

You are NOT the victim of your internal chemistry or the victim of your fate.

And, in a moment, you’ll see with crystal clear vision, with absolutely clarity, that the power has always been and will always be firmly within your hands to affect positive change in your internal chemistry, if you so desire.

Today, I want to spend what little time we have together covering the most important piece of the puzzle, which is:

How do we finally put a stop to the frustration and anger that arises within us when we’re in a state of depression?

Because, here’s the deal...

If we don’t get rid of this anger once and for all... If we don’t stop lashing out at others...

This is what’s going to continue to happen:

We’re struggling in depression, anger arises, we lash out at loved ones, then we feel ashamed, guilty and bad about lashing out, which drives us deeper into depression.

Then, our anger rises once again, we lash out, then we feel awful and this never-ending cycle of depression and anger / anger and depression continues.

So, we must put a stop to it, once and for all!

But, how do we do that when we’re caught in this vicious cycle of depression and anger issues?

Well, I’ll explain how you can swiftly transform your anger to free yourself from this cycle, in just a moment.

But first, I have a question...

Can you remember, a time during your childhood when your parents dressed you up in clothing or shoes that you thought were absolutely ridiculous, ugly or just down right embarrassing?

Maybe you had to wear a particular outfit, dress, tie or silly hat on special occasions and you hated every moment of it.

You didn’t want to wear it but you didn’t have a choice!

You know that feeling, right?

It’s that feeling, when you just can’t wait to get home and rip those silly clothes off so you can jump into something more comfortable, something more YOU.

Well, you need to start seeing anger in this very same way.

You see, anger is simply an uncomfortable ‘layer’ of energy, exactly like those embarrassing ‘layers’ of clothing we had to wear as children.

They are not a part of who we are and we can remove those ‘layers’ at any time, if we so choose.

And, that’s a major key in dissolving the anger from your life and stopping it from driving you into depression.

Understanding that anger is simply an “emotional energy” that passes through you, from time to time.

There’s nothing wrong with you. You are not “mental”. Y ou are not an “angry person”, yes, you may have anger to process right now but that’s not who you are as a person. It’s not your identity!

Once you accept that anger is a ‘temporary emotion’ that we all experience, you’ll begin to lose the fear, judgement or animosity that usually surrounds anger.

As a result, instead of wanting to avoid or suppress anger, you can begin to fearlessly approach anger, rapidly transform it and finally put a stop to it driving you into depression.

Now, many people when describing depression, liken it to being trapped in a dark, tormenting emotional prison, one which has no way out. Where intense emotions such as; guilt, shame, anxiety, anger, sadness or regret are often re-lived over and over again! Which act like a hammer on the head of the person, hammering them downwards, deeper and deeper into the depths of depression.

But, it doesn’t have to be that way!

First, we need to recognise that when we’re in the depths of depression, all the heavy, self-defeating emotions we experience are simply emotional bullies.

They are bullies who feel entitled to intimidate us, making us question, doubt and loathe ourselves on an epic scale.

But, at the end of the day, just like any bully – we hold the power.

  • It is us who decides whether we will submit or rise.
  • It is us who decides whether the likes of guilt, shame, chronic anger, anxiety or regret will cripple us or not.

But, how do we free ourselves from the emotional prison we find ourselves in, in the depths of depression?

Well, by using The Three Keys To Emotional Freedom, which I’m about to share with you. These keys will give you the power to unlock yourself from any emotional prison you find yourself trapped in.

KEY #1: Acknowledge + Name What You’re Feeling

Don’t ever be ashamed of what you feel. They are your personal feelings. They are part of your unique life experience. So, there’s absolutely no reason to be afraid, ashamed or upset when it comes to your feelings. They are there is give you a message.
But, to hear that message we first have to notice what we’re feeling and name it.

For example: If you feel a sense of shame or guilt rise within you, name it by saying: “You are guilt” – “You are shame”

What this ever-so simple technique is doing, is dragging that emotional bully out of the shadows – out of the darkness – out of hiding and into the light – so you can finally see it’s true face, confront it as the bully it is and ultimately, remove it from your life.

KEY #2: Acknowledge + Accept That We’re All Human

None of us are perfect and we’re never going to be. Which means, simply because we’re human, we’re going to screw up, we’re going to make mistakes, we going to make complete fools of ourselves sometimes, we’re going to anger and piss others off, we’re going to upset our nearest and dearest, and we’re all going to unintentionally let others down. That’s life!

And, the faster we accept this reality of life, that to err is human – the faster all those walls of any emotional prison we have ourselves locked in are going to come tumbling down.

KEY #3: Forgive Yourself

  • Forgive yourself for screwing up.
  • Forgive yourself for doing or not doing what you believe you should or shouldn’t have done.
  • Forgive yourself for being just like the rest of us – a student in the game of life – an imperfect human who still has lots to learn in the journey of life.

But, the question is how?

How do you give forgiveness to yourself?

Well, all it takes is for you to just close your eyes, place your hands on your heart and take a few deep breaths to simply quieten your body-mind system down.

Then, once you feel that you’ve slowed down and you’re more relaxed, say out loud to yourself the following words:

When was the last time you felt really calm, tranquil or at peace with the world around you?

Can you remember?

You see, so many of us get swept up in the turmoil of this new, fast-paced, constantly connected world that we forget to switch off and retreat into the calmness that resides within each and every one of us.

And, you know what?

It’s understandable!

In fact, it’s hard NOT TO lose our peace of mind, our inner tranquility and ourselves in the chaotic world around us.

But, don’t you wish that somedays you could just retreat from the world, leave it all behind, and recharge your batteries?

Well, now you can and with the 5 Steps To Instant Tranquility + Inner Calm, I’m about to share with you, you’re about to discover that it’s easier and more effortless, than you could ever imagine.

Yes, that’s right!

Tranquility and inner calm is within your grasp, you just need to discover how to tap into it.

So, let’s get to it.....

STEP ONE:

Sit or lie in a comfortable position, place both your hands on your heart – one on top of the other. Then, gently close your eyes and become aware of your breathing. Take a few deep breaths, until you begin to feel yourself slow down and relax.

STEP TWO:

Start noticing how your body feels. Is there any part of your body which is tense? So, with your eyes still closed, scan your whole body, bit by bit. Starting from your feet and working your way upwards.

If you feel any area of your body is tense simply increase the tension by tightening and tensing the area as much as possible, then suddenly relax it.

Do this for all parts of your body until you can scan it from top to toe and it feels completely relaxed.

Whilst doing this tensing and relaxing step be sure to pay particular attention to your facial muscles, as they carry 90% of our tensions.

This is because our minds are the source of the majority of the tensions in our lives. And, as a result, our face becomes the storage place for these tensions. So, when scanning your body, screw up your face as much as possible and then suddenly relax it.

STEP THREE:

With your body now relaxed, your eyes still closed, and your hands placed over your heart – gently bring all your attention and focus to your heart area. Place all your attention on the entire area of your chest between your armpits, and totally forget the rest of your body.

Now, once all your awareness is on your heart area move onto to Step #4.

STEP FOUR:

Feel this area fill with great peace, feel the entire heart area expand.

Now, at first if you struggle to feel your heart space fill with peace, no worries! Simply visualise a peaceful scene playing out within your heart area, like a movie.

So, ask yourself: What type of scenes evoke feelings of peace, calm and tranquility within you?

Maybe, it’s a peaceful beach with the waves gently lapping on the beach, a meandering river, a baby smiling, a warm embrace, or a majestic mountain landscape, but whatever scenes evoke calmness inside of you, just imagine that scene playing out within your chest area, until you feel a peaceful feeling wash over you.

STEP FIVE:

Simply stay with this feeling, feel the expansion of peacefulness radiate outwards from your heart area and surround your entire being. Bathe in this beautiful, peaceful and tranquil energy for as long as you wish.

And, when you feel ready, gently open your eyes and continue...

In other words, the more grateful we are – the happier we are. They’re connected.

So, what is gratefulness?

Well, the dictionary definition is: “Feeling or showing an appreciation for something done or received”.

In other words, it could be saying ‘thank you’ to someone for being there for us. Or, it could simply be being grateful and appreciative of what and who we have in our lives.

Now, even though science proves our levels of gratitude are intrinsically linked to our levels of happiness, happiness is NOT THE ONLY by-product when we’re consistently grateful in life.

You see, studies from Berkeley and Harvard show that being grateful:

  • Strengthens our immune systems
  • Lowers our blood pressure
  • Encourages us to exercise and take better care of our health
  • It relieves insomnia and helps us sleep longer and better
  • We also feel more refreshed upon waking
  • We have higher levels of positive emotions
  • We experience more joy and pleasure in life
  • We’re more alert, optimistic and happy
  • We’re more helpful, generous and compassionate
  • We’re more forgiving
  • We also feel less lonely and isolated

And, as if that list wasn’t impressive enough! Gratefulness is also proven to strengthen and bond relationships, bringing us closer to others.

So, if simply being grateful can do all that, we’d be fools NOT to implement it into our lives!

But, how do we do it?

How do we express our gratefulness in such a way that it elevates our happiness levels and uplifts us up and out of depression?

Well, it’s pretty simple.

In fact, it starts with just taking a moment right now, to think of a person who has been a positive influence in your life.

Now, this could be a teacher, a parent, a close friend, a partner, a colleague, a boss, a coach, a mentor, anybody. It just has to be someone who has positively influenced you or your life in someway.

It could be even be someone whose simply been there for you at a crucial moment in your life, when you really needed someone.

Now, there’s just ONE condition for the person that you select.

The person must still be alive.

And, when you’ve go that person in your mind, I want you to simply take out a pen and a piece of paper and write down as much as you can about ‘why’ and ‘how’ this person has been so important in your life?

And, be sure to include such things as:

  • Describing the ways in which they have helped you.
  • What positive qualities have they brought out in you?
  • Write down how grateful you are to have them as part of your life journey.
  • Include how they inspired you to be who you are today?
  • Say ‘thank you’ for everything they’ve done for you.

Continue writing, expressing your gratefulness on that piece or pieces of paper, until you cannot write anymore.

Hi and welcome back, as always it’s great to have you here. I’m your host Marie O’Neil, author of How To Create A Depression-Free Life and the creator of The 4-Step Formula To Reset Your Body-Mind System After Depression + Antidepressants!

Now, whether you’ve been officially diagnosed with Treatment Resistant Depression (TRD), or you simply struggle to find any relief from the traditional treatments for depression, I really want you to listen up today! Because, I’m going to be sharing WHY you’re constantly failing and WHY you feel as though you’re facing a losing battle and what you can do about it.

So, lets get started!

Now, I’m sure you’ll agree with me that after we’ve tried to pull ourselves ‘out from under’, time and time again, yet, failing miserably every single time becomes demoralising, doesn’t it?

I mean, it’s extremely hard, if not, impossible to stay motivated to lift ourselves out of depression, when we’re constantly facing defeat.

And, because of this constant trying and failing, over and over again, that so many of us face when we’re trying to breakthrough the darkness of depression, we start having thoughts like:

  • I can’t do this anymore!
  • My life is over!
  • I might as well give up!
  • Why bother?
  • There’s nothing left for me!
  • Life as it once was, is over!
  • There’s no hope for me!

I can’t tell you how many times these kind of thoughts used to run through my mind when I was in the depths of depression.

I’m sure you’ve got your own versions of these thoughts, right?

Well, here’s the thing...

All of these fearful, worrisome, dark and depressive thoughts that we have when we struggle to find any relief from depression activate a tiny structure inside our brain called the Amygdala.

And, once our amygdala is activated it sends a signal down our spine to activate another system, called our Survival System.

Simply put, your Survival System is the part of your Autonomic Nervous System which is associated with the ‘fight/flight response’.

Now, here’s the deal...

When your Survival System is activated, your system produces 3 main chemicals, in particular:

  • Epinephrine (Adrenaline)
  • Norepinephrine (Noradrenaline)
  • Cortisol

Hi and welcome back! It’s great to have you here!

I’m your host Marie O’Neil, Creator of the highly transformative – Complete Self-Help System For Overcoming Depression and Author of How To Create A Depression-Free Life: Proven Strategies to Overcome Depression ASAP.

Now, if you’re here with me today, that means you’ve finished expressing your gratitude and appreciation for a special person, who has inspired or positively influenced your life in someway, on paper.

If not, I highly recommend you stop listening now and head over to yesterday’s episode, so you can start from the beginning and reap the happiness-enhancing rewards that are about to come your way!

But, I’m going to imagine you’ve completed the first part, so it’s now time for the second and final step to this technique which has 3 options to it.

You are required to simply select one option, but the rule is: You must choose one. After all, you don’t want to miss this last and very vital step as it’s the key to enhancing your happiness and experiencing all the health-giving benefits we spoke about in the last episode.

So, the options are as follows:

OPTION 1: You take the beautiful letter you’ve just written and you either post it or email it to that special person.

OPTION 2: You call the person and read your beautiful letter to them over the phone.

OPTION 3: Is to visit the person, or call them on Skype or FaceTime and read the letter to them face-to-face.

Now, I encourage you to choose Option 3 – speaking to them face-to-face, because even though this may seem like the most terrifying or daunting option, I can speak from experience that this holds the most remarkable happiness-enhancing benefits, as it really IS powerful and heart-warming for all parties involved.

However, I would rather you select Options 1 or 2, rather than not do it at all.

But, my major concern with Option 1 – posting the letter or emailing it – is the letter can easily get stuck in the email junk folder or lost in the post.

It happens and if it does, it would mean a few of things:

  • All your time and effort is wasted
  • You won’t reap the massive health-giving benefits this technique provides
  • Obviously, if the person didn’t receive it – they’re not going to respond – and because of this lack of response we may incorrectly believe the person is intentionally not responding. Which of course, can cause unnecessary animosity which is clearly not the object of this exercise!

So, to gain the most benefits from this happiness-enhancing exercise, I highly recommend and encourage you to select from Options 2 or 3.

But, whichever you choose, get it done today!

Now, just ask yourself...

What’s the first thing you normally do when you want to stop overthinking?

Have you ever noticed?

Well, if you’re like the vast majority of us, you try to take control of the thoughts or clamp down on your mind, in an attempt to overpower the constant thoughts and force them to stop.

But, have you ever just stopped and asked yourself how you’re attempting to stop all those annoying thoughts?

It’s with more thoughts, right?

So, we already have a chaotic mind going on and then, we start thinking: “I must stop my mind from overthinking”“I must stop my mind from chattering” – “I shouldn’t be thinking like this!” – “I should be thinking like hat instead!” – “Arrrghh these thoughts are soooo negative, I must stop thinking this way!”

“If only, I could just STOP all this worrying, then I wouldn’t have to worry so much!”

It’s crazy, right?!

It’s really easy to see how we can find ourselves in such a bind or in complete mental anguish or suffering in the likes of, depression or anxiety when we try to stop our overthinking by using this typical method of generating more thoughts, to overpower other thoughts.

So, what’s the solution?

How can we stop all this overthinking?

How can we “switch off” all those incessant thoughts within the mind and just simply relax?

How can we free ourselves from all this mental anguish and chaos that occurs when we start overthinking... and then, overthinking about our overthinking...

Well, the answer lies in discovering the 3 proven steps to stop overthinking, which I’m going to be revealing to you today.

These steps allow you to easily and very quickly calm your mind and experience authentic inner calmness and tranquility even if, you don’t think its possible for you!

Well, let’s get started!

So, if you haven’t already guessed...

STEP 1: Stop Thinking About Your Thinking!

Stop adding more thoughts into the mix. Seriously, creating more thoughts will NEVER stop overthinking, it’ll only worsen it!

So, the very first step is to simply stop trying to fight or rebel against any thoughts or overthinking that’s happening.

And, we do that by following Step #2 which is...

STEP 2: Separate Thoughts From Thinking!

Here’s what I mean...

So, we have thoughts that ‘pop up’ in our mind throughout the day. These can be random thoughts about anything.

There’s positive thoughts, negative thoughts, hateful thoughts, loving thoughts, thoughts about death, thoughts about life.

Thoughts about anything and everything are going to ‘pop up’ within your mind. That’s absolutely guaranteed!

There’s nothing we can do about it because it’s the very nature of our mind.

But, I just want you to imagine for a moment...

You’re walking along the street and you see a poisonous pill on the pavement. And, you know it’s a poisonous pill because it’s got a great big label on it which says “poisonous!”

Now, even though that pill has the potential to harm you, if you simply walk around it and leave it...

Which is an utterly terrifying and frankly heart-wrenching statistic, when I think, that every one of those people are in such intense agony and pain, that they’re willing to throw away their precious lives.

Now, let me ask you a question:

  • Do you think you’re here by accident?
  • Do you believe you have no value in this world?
  • Do you ever have the thought that you’re a burden to others?

Well, if you answered “yes” to any of those questions, I want you to listen really carefully to me today because whether you’re aware of it or not....

You are here for a reason – you are here for a purpose.

For example:

  • If you’re a parent, you are the parent your child is meant to have.
  • If you’re a husband or a wife, a girlfriend or boyfriend, you are the lover – the compliment – that your partner needs to have in their life right now!

If you don’t believe me (or these words) then, that’s cool.

Because, whether you’re a religious-minded person or a more scientific-based personality, there are answers all around that prove my words.

For example:

If you’re religious, I would ask you:

  • Does God create anything less than his best work?
  • Does God make mistakes?
  • Doesn’t God create everything in his own image, his own likeness?

So, how can you be here and be an accident? How can you be here and be anything less than divine? It’s not possible, is it?

On the other hand....

If you’re NOT religious and your faith is based in the sciences, then I would ask you to look at the facts around you.

  • Is there anything on this earth (created by nature) that doesn’t have a unique purpose in the big scheme of life?
  • Everything is of immense value and importance in the grand circle of life, isn’t it?
  • The universe has a purpose for everything within it.
  • Every part is essential to the whole.

You are no different.

You are essential to life. You are essential to others and more than ever, you’re a crucial part in the lives of all those you touch.

You see, there are ways you can help others, motivate others and enhance the lives of others in a way that no one else can.

Simply, because nobody else IS you!

And, that’s your immense value!

  • Only you can bring all the qualities that you have to offer to this world.
  • Only you can make your unique contribution.

You are an essential part in the big scheme of life, and in all those lives you touch.

That’s why your contribution is so vital, because:

  • Only you can love like you do
  • Think like you do
  • Move like you do
  • Communicate like u do.

And, whether you’re aware of it or not, you are always positively contributing to others lives in a way that only YOU can!!

And, the best news is, it’s not even something you have to try and do, just be yourself.

So, just for today, I’m going to ask you to start feeling proud of who you are!

Yeah, you may be depressed right now, going through a tough time, struggling and need to seek help from others, but that’s okay! We all do at times. That
