In 1977 a series of UFO and humanoid sightings would capture the headlines in and around West Wales. Sightings of cigar shaped objects and saucers became common place. On Ripperstone farm, the Coombs family were plagued by a number of curious incidents, which included UFOs, encounters with tall spacemen, disembodied hands, and men in black. These events would mirror themselves at the Haven Fort Hotel, where Rosa Grenville and her family were likewise visited by strange figures and men in black suits.

Some would come to call it The Dyfed Enigma, others the Terror Triangle or The Welsh Triangle, and even the Broad Haven Triangle. But whatever you want to call it, what you’re about to hear is very strange and frightening.

The music featured in this episode is by The Night Monitor. You can check out all of his music on Bandcamp, Apple Music and Spotify.

Our Strange Skies: UFOs Throughout History - 107: Our Strange Silencers (Tales of the Men in Black) with Aaron Gulyas
play

06/27/22 • 110 min

The Men in Black, MIBs, the UFO silencers; since the 1950s, UFO witnesses have reported encounters with shadowy figures who've threatened them into silence. Or as Nick Redfern puts it in his book, The Real Men in Black: “For years—or perhaps even for centuries — the Men in Black have been elusive, predatory, fear-inducing figures, hovering with disturbing regularity upon the enigmatic fringes of the UFO subject, nurturing their own unique brand of terror and intimidation. Like true specters from the outer edge, the MIB appear from the murky darkness, and roam the countryside provoking carnage, chaos, paranoia, and fear in their wake, before returning to that same shrouded realm from which they originally oozed.”

The Men in Black were born in a cold war age full of paranoia and deception, from the minds of two people: Albert Bender and Gray Barker. From there, these cloak and dagger menaces took on a life of their own as more and more witnesses came forward with tales of these strange silencers.

Aaron Gulyas of The Saucer Life and Great Lakes Lore podcasts joins me to discuss the origins of the Men in Black and we trade off stories of encounters with these enigmatic figures.

When one of his crew members called out sick, Everett "Carl" Higdon, a resident of Rawlins, Wyoming, borrowed the company truck, and set out for McCarty canyon to hunt elk with his new 7MM Magnum rifle. Along the way, he ran into two guys who were having trouble with their truck. As a nod of appreciation for helping them out, they directed Carl to a remote are of Medicine Bow National Forest.
After running into a local game warden, Carl set out in search of elk, and before long he found a group of five standing in a clearing. Before long, a deadened shot would lead to a strange experience with an even stranger being.
Anomalous researcher, AP Strange, joins me to unpack the bewildering abduction of Carl Higdon.

Dionisio Llanca awoke in a strange place in the early morning hours of October 28, 1973. He was inside a corral that stored a bunch of different carts with no memory of who he was, where he was, or even where he lived. He wandered out onto a road before he blacked out and woke up in the hospital a few days later.
What happened in the moments before Dionisio attempted to change his tire and after are subjective at best. Under hypnosis a story of alien abduction emerged, and despite how unbelievable that sounds, he did have conscious recall... of a UFO and three mysterious beings behind him...
I'm joined by one of the Sweary Boys, Spencer Wirth-Davis aka Big Cats, of The What If? Podcast to discuss the ups and downs of the abduction phenomenon and whether or not these aliens look like David Spade.

As above, so below. It’s a phrase that traces itself to the founding of Hermeticism. Those words can be found on the Emerald Tablet, a document that purportedly reveals the secrets of how to make the philosopher’s stone. As above, so below is a phrase that has carried on through generations. It’s found in the Bible, it’s an element in the hit series, Hellier, and in 1975 terror would come from both places.
During the Summer, people would fear the water due to the theatrical release of the first ever Summer Blockbuster, Jaws. But in November of that year, 22 year old Travis Walton would encounter a UFO near a slash pile in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest in Arizona. The craft emitted a blue beam of light that lifted Travis off the ground and threw him back about ten feet. That was the last time his coworkers would see him for the next five days. What ensued was a large manhunt, and one of the best investigated UFO cases of all time.
In this episode we delve into the timeline of the Travis Walton abduction, his experiences on the ship, the sightings that occurred in the area after he returned, and new evidence that would emerge decades later. In short, we delve into an incident that could be described as being “bigger than a Wal-Mart.”

In June of 1959, a small missionary on the southern end of Papua, New Guinea experienced a number of UFO events over the course of two days that defy explanation to this day. The story of Reverend William Booth Gill and the 37 additional witnesses who saw a group of four beings walk atop a UFO is considered a classic by many, including our UFO dad, Jacques Vallee, and many more. Tune in to hear about the transformation of Doubting William to Convinced Bill.

Our Strange Skies: UFOs Throughout History - Minisode One: The Eagle River Incident: Water for (Extra)terrestrial Pancakes
play

12/29/20 • 10 min

The Eagle River Incident may be the most fun close encounter of the third kind case in existence. Meet Joe Simonton, a sixty year old chicken farmer, who traded water for intergalactic pancakes.
Random Remarks

  • As crazy as this story sounds, I believe Joe. He's a really down to earth guy.
  • I mention Jacques Vallee. He is, what I would consider, part of the Mount Rushmore of UFO research, along with J Allen Hynek, John Keel, and Budd Hopkins.

Every year, a handful of cars take a stroll down a dirt road just off of Clay Point Road in Colchester, Vermont. They’re often lured their by the nostalgia of a former all-girls camp known as Buff Ledge. For 25 years, the camp produced many undefeated swim teams, as well as state and regional champions.

In 1968 the camp earned a reputation as a place where an alien abduction had taken place. It was preserved in the graffiti on camp walls as crude caricatures of UFOs shooting beams of light. Walter N Webb, a UFO investigator, saw the art for himself as a walked among the skeletal remains of the camp in the early 80s

Today, the camp is a “co-op community is for people who want to live in the country ‘but don’t want to be lonely.’” The camp, like the memories of an alien abduction decades old, exists in secret, but if you find the right person, they might just talk about the night two young adults were taken on board a UFO on the shores of Lake Champlain.

Special thanks to Mark Rodeghier of CUFOS for tracking down a copy of Walter Webb’s book. If you can donate to their cause, please visit their website!

1947 is considered to be the cornerstone of modern ufology. Most people know it for the Roswell crash or for Kenneth Arnold's sighting alone, but is there 1947 than we give it credit for? In this first of a two part series, I explore the fifteen minutes that changed the world and made flying saucers a house hold name. Join us as we explore the minutes that shaped our mythology.
