Olympic & Bundy with Christine Devine

Darius Arya is an archaeologist, professor and host in several documentaries for Discover, History and National Geographic channels.

Most recently -- he explored three of the most fascinating cities of the ancient world, Athens, Cairo and Istanbul, for PBS's Ancient Invisible Cities.

Since 2002, Darius has been the executive director of the nonprofit American Institute for Roman Culture, leading field school excavations and study programs.

He's also currently a guest scholar at the Getty Conservation Institute at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, doing research on the role of new media for heritage preservation and promotion.

Darius has lived in Rome for the last 20 years, and if you're considering visiting the city or Italy in general, we discuss on Olympic & Bundy places to visit, some of the "tourist traps" that exist, the modern foodie culture in Rome and more.

We also talk about the ancient history and importance of historic preservation for future generations.

50 - The art of being fabulous with Derek Warburton

Derek Warburton is the co-owner and creative director of LAPALME Magazine.

He's worked as a stylist for celebrities like Beyonce, Jessica Alba and Miranda Kerr, travels across the country doing a lot of fashion-related talk show appearances, he owns his own jewelry line called Mr. Warburton and is about to launch a new magazine under the same name.

Derek has also done a lot of philanthropic work in LA and across the country. So much so -- he was recently honored with the Style Ambassadorship Award by the city of Los Angeles.

He credits a lot of his hustle and career ambition to a difficult childhood. He suffered from homelessness and depression as a teenager, and as an adult has worked hard for all the things he has achieved. In speaking openly about his adversity, he hopes someone out there also struggling can relate and know they aren't alone.

Derek joined me on Olympic & Bundy to talk about everything from his struggles as a teen, to breaking into the fashion and magazine industries, to various experiences in life that shaped him into the person he is today.

52 - But First, Coffee: Alfred owner Josh Zad on building a memorable brand and launching Calidad Beer

Josh Zad is the founder and CEO of Alfred Coffee & Kitchen, Alfred Tea Room and the new Calidad Beer.

The former real estate developer opened his first Alfred location on Melrose Place in 2013. He has since opened several coffee locations and tea rooms around Los Angeles, as well as locations in Austin and Tokyo.

Alfred has become somewhat of a cult-favorite LA business for social media influencers, celebrities, and really, anyone in need of a caffeine boost.

Serving Stumptown Coffee, Alfred's brick-and-mortar stores are known for the uniquely designed interiors and the trademarked catchphrase "But First, Coffee."

Josh is the mastermind behind the company's memorable branding, retail space and social media presence (#TeaYesYouMaybe).

Scrolling through Instagram under #AlfredCoffee leads to more than 33,000 posts of hip customers, aesthetically-pleasing coffee pictures and cool neon signage.

The Los Angeles native is now taking what he's learned with Alfred to launch a new brand, Calidad Beer -- a Mexican-style lager made in Santa Barbara, California.

He joined me on Olympic & Bundy to talk about his background in real estate, what led him to open a coffee shop, famous customers, his skill for branding and design and a lot more!
