Not a Bomb
What’s up bombers! Welcome back to your regularly scheduled Not A Bomb podcast. This is the podcast where we go back and reexamine films that either bombed financially or were panned critically...or in this case, both! We welcome Sammy back, our good friend from the GGTMC, to discuss 2019’s comic book adaption - Hellboy (2019). The project began as a follow up to Hellboy II: The Golden Army from 2008. However, Guillermo del Toro was not offered the opportunity to direct the third film and Ron Perlman decided to leave the project. The studio had no choice but to find a new director and attempt a reboot of the franchise. The gang discusses comic book collecting, Milla Jovovich acting...or lack thereof, fart rock, the behind-the-scenes feud between the director and producer, Neil Marshall’s filmography, and eating Domino’s pizza. Also, please forgive the podcast for one of the worst Bill Cosby impressions ever. We shouldn’t even call it an impression...it’s more like a verbal seizure combined with a bad joke. Timestamps Intro - (1:43) Comic Book Discussion - (3:36) Box Office Results and Critical Response - (16:43) Movie Guide Review - (22:07) Behind the Camera - (25:04) In Front of the Camera - (38:25) Production and Development - (53:25) Hellboy Discussion - (59:20) Is it a Bomb? - (106:42) Listener Feedback - (111:55) Outro - Optimism by Weird Heat - (123:42) Hellboy (2019) is directed by Neil Marshall and stars David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, Daniel Dae Kim, and Thomas Haden Church. If you want to leave feedback or suggest a movie bomb, please drop us a line at [email protected]. Also, if you like what you hear, leave a review on Apple Podcast. If you want to hear more of Sammy, make sure you subscribe to the Gentlemen’s Guide to Midnight Cinema and be sure to leave them a review. Cast: Brad, Troy, Sammy

Episode 98 - The Black Hole (1979)

Welcome back film fans! This is episode 98 of Not A Bomb, the podcast where we reexamine movies that flopped at the box office or were panned by the critics. On this week’s show, Troy and Brad are once again joined by John Nance to discuss Walt Disney’s first PG film - The Black Hole. What do you get when you mix Star Wars with a disaster film? You get one of the weirdest movies from the House of Mouse with an A+ cast and a D- script. You also get robots with googly eyes and the love child of Darth Vader and a Cylon (lots of sci-fi references in that sentence). The gang reminiscences about their favorite live-action Disney films, sleeping with your multiple-universe self, the art of matte paintings, and the lack of true science in most science fiction films. Timestamps Intro (01:00) Favorite Live Action Disney Films (6:17) Box office results and Critical Response (21:43) Behind the Camera (28:21) In Front of the Camera (32:29) The Black Hole Discussion (46:17) Is it a bomb: (105:01) Outro (114:09) The Black Hole is directed by Gary Nelson and stars Maximilian Schnell, Anthony Perkins, Robert Forster, Joseph Bottoms, Yvette Mimieux, Ernest Borgnine, Roddy McDowall, Slim Pickens, and Tom McLoughlin.
