Even the most sexually confident people identify that at some times in their life they’ve lost their mojo. This meditation offers a range of sex-positive affirmations, as a way to challenge and re-wire unuseful sexual scripts and have more choice as to how you habitually think and feel about your body. Whilst using affirmations may feel clunky or even awkward at first, I find this practice to be radically useful for my clients, and we can make sense of this by turning to the science of neuroplasticity: when we engage in new behaviors, thoughts, activities and so on, our brain starts to rewire itself. I often hear ‘ I don’t deserve pleasure because I am (insert self-talk here). It’s vital we challenge ideas that are getting in the way between you and your pleasure, this practice is one approach.
NORMAL sessions is a series to support you in feeling more present during sex. We know how important it is to practice mindfulness regularly, it can also support you in feeling more present during sex. For those who are struggling to feel connected, aware or mindful during sex, I always recommended starting a daily meditation or stress managements practice outside of a sexual context, as a way to practice these skills so you can integrate them more easily into sex with yourself or others. Before we get started with the meditation, take a few moments to set up your space, so you can feel as comfortable, safe, and present as possible.
