He talked about his new 2022 CD Rumba that combines the holistic vibe and rhythmic circularity of Afro-Cuban music with a jazz sound .. His spirituality shines on this album opening new doors to an endlessly expressive musical universe. Rumba refers to the social gatherings of the black community in Havana, Cuba. At the beginning of the twentieth century, these groups met to celebrate and praise the deceased in ceremonies full of song and dance. Wonderful artists like Terri Lyne Carrington, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Miguel Zenón, Ingrid Jensen and others are on this new project .. Enjoy this interview.

Known internationally for her avant-garde vocal techniques and fearless exploration of sound, Sofia is redefining what the human voice can express.

Born in Ethiopia, raised in Vietnam and Sweden, Sofia brings a global perspective to her music that blends improvisation, composition, and non-traditional vocalizations like split tones, distortion, and toneless singing.

Her work has made a profound impact on the contemporary classical, free improvisation, and experimental jazz scenes. In this interview, we dive into her musical journey, her inspirations, and what fuels her bold sonic innovation.

Welcome to a new edition of the Neon Jazz interview series with Montreal-based Jazz Pianist & Composer Gentiane MG .. We talked about her third album .. the new 2022 CD Walls of Glass .. Her band shares a deep bond that obscures the boundaries between written and improvised material. Early on, while studying and performing works from the great classical composers such as Bach, Chopin, Ravel, she was beginning to experiment with creating music, seeking an outlet for self expression. A growing interest in improvisation led her in her late teenage years to shift her focus towards jazz .. In addition to her artistic career, she is an in-demand teacher that has shared her experience and knowledge with students from all over the world, having been a course lecturer at McGill University and a guest lecturer at institutions such as the University of Veracruz in Mexico. She has also maintained her private teaching studio for the last 15 years... Enjoy this interview.

He came to Kansas City from Portland, Oregon about 5 months ago and things are taking off .. On September 21, 2022 he will be a part of the Boulevard Big Band at The Warwick playing with a jazz heavyweight in Eric Marienthal .. Stan was born into a musical family and hs father was a cornet player and High School band director while his mother was a singer and pianist that also taught private piano students. After High School, he attended Fort Hays State in Kansas and went on to the University of Northern Iowa .. Along with performing, he is respected teacher and champion of jazz with over six decades under his belt .. We talk about this long career and his current home of KC in full ..
